Going full comic book nerd for a second. The "Robin" label is one that is actually reflected in the comics with the first and most well known Robin, Dick Grayson, eventually getting tired of being under Batman (and of some Batman bullshit) and eventually breaking out on his own to become a new hero, Nightwing who event took over the mantle of Batman. Kobe is more or less the Nightwing/Dick Grayson of these Robins, as he was able to have his own legacy and not just become a guy who won because of Shaq. Scottie never could and never will be able to do that and Kyrie went from being LeBron's Robin to being KD's Robin.
I like this I will add to some points. Kobe being dick grayson is spot on because that robin went and made the teen titans also. Kobe led his own version of the lakers. Scottie pippen is tim drake specifically in the batman beyond universe. He couldn’t live with his failures and eventually shunned batman for them. Scottie pouting on the bench when he didnt get the last shot. Michael being the man and saving the team. And kyrie is more or less the same. He literally left to go be batman and failed.
Kyrie had a million reasons to be angry when the reporter talked about "parental role." I didn't get it at the time. But now, being a father, not only is it disrespectful to his father whom he loves, respects and who was clearly a big impact and motivator in his life. Its also part of that disgusting narrative the media likes to portray where black people rarely have fathers in their lives. So, it makes sense when Kyrie goes on to say he had a father and mentions his name. Just really disrespectful.
@@78sportstv75 I feel like that could feed into the feelings of being a Robin that rusty described in the video. They’re treating them like a child who needs to be fathered by Lebron. Not like the 2 of the greatest basketball players in the world that they are.
As a warriors fan I can’t express how much I appreciate players like klay and Draymond sticking around. Even kd left because he didn’t want to be a second superstar
This is extremely accurate. You can’t win championships by yourself, as good as Lebron was with the Cavs, he couldn’t win it all without a team to support him. Jordan couldn’t win in the 80s without a team to support him. Kobe couldn’t win on his own without pau and a well built roster, shaq couldn’t win until he and Kobe teamed up. KD couldn’t win without steph and the warriors. Everyone deserves appreciation, not just the superstar
On the other Hand this "mythology " is what made basketball the sport that it is today. Basketball had a huge rise in popularity during the Jordan era and the Jordan era became popular because it built a narrative around Jordan.
Idk if it’s true but I’ve heard Kyrie even apologized to Lebron after the Boston stuff because he had no idea how hard it would be to be the leader and number 1 dude on a team
The only thing wrong with this is I feel like Kobe shouldn’t even be compared to Kyrie or Scottie because Kobe was not Robin he was Batman to Shaqs Superman. How could you call him Robin when he was almost just as important to the team and eventually overtook Shaq in scoring, not to mention, Shaq left Kobe and Kobe proved in my opinion that he was better than Shaq(mostly because of work ethic and how their careers turned out more so than ability and impact because prime Shaq could’ve been the best player ever) Meanwhile there’s a huge, huge gap between players like lebron and Michael and Kyrie and Scottie, but Kobe himself is literally in the next tier after MJ and LBJ
Forreal, Batman to Superman was a great comparison- they were both great in their time spent in LA. Shaq was the better player in all those years but Kobe was still a great player.
Kobe was never considered on Shaqs level when they played. This is revisionist history. People forget the Lakers were trash with Kobe at the helm until Pau Gasol came over. That's why Kobe only won 1 MVP. And even that one came down to one game vs Chris Paul.
@@kenwright233391 dude Kobe was a teenager for most of the time he had with Shaq and was def not a robin he may have not been on a prime Shaq level but to say Kobe was a robin is a lil disrespectful their literally the greatest duo because they were both alpha players they were the 1 2 punch and only broke up cuz shaqs work ethic wasn’t like Kobe’s and that made them split up and remember the Lakers traded shaq not Kobe. And Kobe got 2 more while shaq got one as the robin to d wade
For real Kobe didn’t end a good thing, while ego might have driven it, trading the older player who didn’t look after his body was the best move they could have made. Shaq only managed to play more than 60 games 3 times after leaving the lakers
LMAOOOOOO BRO U ON CRACK KOBE BETTER THAT SHAQ💀💀 I don’t even like shaq but he was way better then Kobe and he was even working has hard has him 😂🤡Kobe better then shaq cause of the work ethic look at the rings Kobe worked hard all his career 5 rings shaq just ate and played got 4 rings 🥶two different animals in my opinion
This shows how rare a player like Steph Curry is, KD was the “best player” and was the go to guy but Steph somehow was still able to be relevant and show his MVP quality. I don’t think we’ll see anything like that again
Because Steph already established the narrative that he could be the best player on a championship team, prior to KD joining. If Steph hadn't won prior to KD, the media would have put that "he can't be the best player on a championship team" label on him. They woulda treated Steph like he was just there to wash KD's clothes and fetch KD's water bottle, just along for the ride while KD carried him. Luckily, nobody could spin the story that way because of Steph's success pre-KD.
I remember watching an interview with Klay and they were asking him whether or not he minds if people talk about him riding Steph’s coattails or if one day he’ll want to get his own team and be the man (they asked in a better way that made it sound less disrespectful), and he was like “oh idc, i have no problems riding Steph’s coattails to a ring, and hopefully the HOF one day.” I heard that and knew immediately that they’d be demons. (I think it might’ve been the offseason right after the Jackson/Kerr change.)
Honestly this whole topic reminds me of how history is viewed over time. The way that basketball is viewed through a few greats reminds me so much of what is known as "Great Man History" which has been set aside as modern historians decided to focus on the nuances of history.
The sports world in general is filled with “great man” history. You might remember who Pelé is and his legendary World Cup runs, but unless you’re Brazilian, or an association football aficionado (or both, lmao), who has even tried to remember the greatness of his teammates like Garrincha and Vava?
Kobe was never going to work with Shaq because Kobe works harder than anyone and Shaq slacks at any given opportunity because he was dominant regardless. The fact they won three rings despite all that is the most shocking part to me.
Scottie Pippen is a special case. He's been dealing with a lot of things. His wife cheated on him, then his son died, then last dance comes out and instead of being a 1998 Bulls documentary it became the Michael Jordan show. This threw him off and then he started saying crazy things. The truth is that Jordan and fans always put Jordan and Pippen together. Even Jordan himself always emphasized how he wouldn't go anywhere without Pippen. A lot of fans back then agreed that offensively Jordan was better, but Pippen could be just as good as Jordan if needed. UNTIL he sat down in that game. Him sitting down really ruined his legacy and showed the world that Pippen couldn't lead the bulls he needed Jordan
I still wonder what could've been if Scottie went to Seattle for Shawn Kemp. Would MJ win a ring with him before Shawn's health goes down the gutter? Would Pippen, having more years of his prime outside of Chicago, win a title without Michael?
The Warriors situation is so unique because people will probably argue well after KD and Curry retire on who the 'Batman' really was during their run together. Even with these guys are different teams, that debate on who is better still runs wild.
@@rafa0247 I don't think the team being Steph's determines who was the Batman tho. For example, I like comparing the 2017 and 2018 finals. There is no way the Warriors win in 2017 without KD matching Lebron's output in the series. Regardless of who's team that is, KD imo was obviously the Batman in that series. In 2018 tho, outside of 1 bad game Steph was insane. I'd say he was the Batman of that series, even if his counting stats ended up being a bit worse than KD's. The GSW will always be Steph's team tho, because they built their offense around his game.
I was actually thinking real hard, how many times have there ever been two players who won a ring playing together and also won a ring as the best player on the team separate from each other? If you’re just saying that they had to be separate from each other then the only people who come to mind are Russel/Havlicek and Lebron/Wade. Obviously KD could join this group with Steph if he wins a ring in Brooklyn. Then I was thinking of two players winning with each other and also winning separate from each other on a different team than they played on together (as the best player on their team). The only pair that I could think of is Bill Walton and Dennis Johnson on the 86 Celtics, as they both won FMVP prior to their time on the Celtics.
@@rafa0247 that doesn’t mean he is Batman. You could be a leader of the team but not be Batman. But I don’t think Steph was Robin tbh . The whole warriors squad were like the avengers if we are being honest but if we are just talking Steph and KD they were more Superman and Batman
Even the so-called "good" or "unproblematic" robins get mad at this. Klay Thompson plays very unselfishly and has a great relationship with Steph but was understandably mad when he got left off the NBA-75 list. The dude is one of the best shooters of all time and is a key piece in one of the most dominant dynasties in NBA lore. 3 time champion, holds some crazy records, probably the best 3-and-D player ever in an era where that's one of the most high value roles. But when people think "the warriors dynasty" or "the best regular season record of all time" they think of Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, and how they opposed LeBron for 4 years straight and the role it played in HIS story. Not to say Klay doesn't get recognition obviously but the narrative of the warriors is pretty much only made about 3 people. Steph Curry changing the game, the rivalry with LeBron and the Cavs, and how KD tipped the scales, but as for Klay he gets the "oh yeah he's good too" treatment

I love your deep dives so fucking much. I love your editing, lighting work and the concepts you talk about since you tend to hit more emotional impacts in the league that literally no one talks about. It’s a vibe, mane.
I think that when number of championships became the sticking point in Goat debates it changed things. People started ranking or defining greatness by Championship count and a players role in said championship count. It completely removes so much context from a players career and the teams they played for when a player is defined by rings and final’s MVPS. These arguments were made up to protect MJ’s legacy when it seemed like there were viable “threats” (ie LeBron and Kobe) to surpassing him in the conversation
Your deep dives provide such a good split between in depths discussions about basketball itself as well as the mentality and context behind these athletes and their thoughts, feelings, and experiences
That's why I appreciate a guy like klay Thomson. For years people wanted him to leave GS and have his own team but he has this chill mentality of not chasing status but instead alongside with Stephen Curry and try to win as much as possible.
Feel bad for Scottie so much even though some of the blame on his downfall is his own fault. Imagine being one of the great all-around talents in league history only to become remembered for being number 2 to the greatest of all-time. It seems like his reputation in the league spilled over to his personal life, as he's never really been in control of his life, constantly making bad decisions and being sucked off of life and money by the CEO of The Streets.
couldn't agree more! I cant stand it when watching an after game press conference and all the media do is ask all of the players there about the one best player on the court. " ow do you feel about this players performance", "how it is to see this player do this and that", bla bla bla It is very disrespectful and just plain annoying. Great video!
I'd also add that you can be a great number 2 without having an inflated ego. It's called being a team first player. Pau Gasol had no problem playing second fiddle to Kobe. Same with Khris Middleton playing next to Giannis.
I’m regards to the Last Dance: I think it was nearly impossible to make a documentary about that era of the Chicago Bulls without Michael Jordan becoming the focal point of the documentary…If Scottie Pippen truly thought that the documentary wouldn’t end up being focused on MJ, that’s a pretty ignorant thought
I would be interested to see how Kobe would have responded if Shaq had worked just as hard as he did to stay in shape and work on his game (free throws). I feel like a big part of the reason Kobe wanted out was because he felt that he was putting in more effort and that shaq was coasting on pure physicality and raw natural ability.
To an extent, I completely understand the Kyrie one. Don’t understand 90% of the shit he’s done since, but when that reporter asked if LeBron had taken on a “paternal role,” yeah I woulda had a problem as well. Kobe’s was just two ultra personalities with different philosophies clashing-but Pippen’s was bizarre and seemingly out of nowhere. The amount of times he’s gone back and forth in regards to his Batman is completely startling, especially as shown in his comments on the GOAT debate.
Have been watching your stuff since a while now but this video here made me go back and check if i was subscribed. Appreciate the video, and now I'm subscribed.
The saddest part of being a Robin is sometimes you just forced into the situation that or when you’re in the situation there’s no way you can avoid it or that there’s no contacts out of it. A great example was when Dwyane Wade played with LeBron James in the first season together I still think doing it was better that showed both in the regular season and in the playoffs yet the second season everything changed everybody just excepted that LeBron just got better and wade just declined. But honestly that wasn’t the case Dwyane Wade the decline in LeBron James in 2012 fairly stayed the same it was the amount of shots that were taking that was different. And all that was because of Dwyane Wade sacrifice knowing that the only way we can win is that we had a true main option instead of a duo as LeBron kind to this day has shown that he can’t work like that he hast to be ball dominant. He also similar to bosh also wanting to win more Which lead to more rings. Unfortunately players like wade and bosh are always underrated due to this. Theirs people who don’t think wade is top 40 where I think he can be as high as 10. At very least top 15. Which is sad to say the least. And bosh man don’t even get me started that poor man…
It would make a lot more sense to nickname them the War Machines to their Iron Mans since Robin is generally portrayed to be a surrogate son of Bruce Wayne, which doesn't really translate to most of these players' relationships to their main guy. I can't imagine Pippen looking up to Jordan as if he was his father.
Just a foreigner perspective here so feel free to disagree but it seems from the outside looking in that american sport leagues have this obsession with reducing their leagues to a small minority of individuals by portraying them as the only thing that matter and contribute to winning and even when they do win they analize every move comparing them to retired players or newcomers always looking for a reason to discredit everybody. Stuff like that makes teams like the 2004 pistons or the we believe warriors more special in my eyes because it resonates less with the BS the media and the nba as a business (understandably so) wants to present as this big individuals show, and connects more with what makes basketball a beautiful TEAM game in it's most pure state.
They jus need drama and narratives to talk Abt is prob y they talk about it cuz if they didn't alot players would b staying put n it b less chaotic less discussion to talk about
Tbh I think its disrespectful to call Wade and Curry a Robin. They shown that they were capable of being Batman by winning a title as the best player on their team
Also Kobe wasn’t #2 he played a complete different role on a great team. John Stockton and Karl Malone were both great players both led the Jazz to like 20 playoff appearances in a row. Is Stockton Robin? Or do they play totally different roles.
Kobe and Shaq could have been like Magic and Kareem had they just swallowed their egos and played a few more years together. They could have won like 5 chips together and Kobe would have been the clear cut best player for the last 2 as Shaq got older. There is a reason why Magic and Kareem are viewed greater all time by many even though Magic never won without Kareem and Kareem only one 1 chip without Magic. The Kyrie situation is different because LeBron had a foot out the door and was going to leave anyway Kyrie just beat him to it. Though they probably could have won 1 chip maybe in like 2020. The Scottie and MJ situation is like the Magic-Kareem situation but MJ was just so much better than Scottie that Scottie became underrated.
You make a great point but in the end I think that the best thing Kobe did was leave Shaq. Out of this 3 scenarios Kobe was the only Robin that ended up being better than Batman.
Notice the 80's were all about great teams, despite them having great players. Showtime Lakers, Boston Celtics, BadBoy Pistons yet as the 90's rolled around it was solely about MJ and whatever narrative the media can spin around him.
MJ became so popular that the NBA over capitalized on it As proof and I'm a Rockets fan saying this, the 94 and 95 seasons had lower rating because of no MJ a pretty solid lower ratings too even though Hakeem had historic 2 seasons. When MJ came back and the Bulls dominated again...you had some of the highest rating seasons ever. That level of impact from one player was just too much to not build the whole sport around him. I remember when MJ popularity exploded where he was more of an American icon than a great NBA player. It would have been foolish not to ride MJ
@@UnlimitedProduction1 well I agree, of course u would ride the wave of such a marketable player. However sadly the issue I have is how much the contributions of others were diminished to make Jordan appear more godlike. I've seen videos make some absurd claims about Jordan which were downright lies to make him appear almost messianic.
Pippen's 1994 season is great but overrated. People love to nitpick any injury with MJ's opponents but don't apply the same logic to Pippen. For whatever reasons. Here are some details about the 1994 season that few know about, or don't care to acknowledge because they hate MJ: - MJ was the only one who left the Bulls. The Bulls still had their main core of Scottie Pippen, Horace Grant, B.J. Armstrong, Bill Cartwright, John Paxson, Scott Williams, Will Perdue. They added 5 new rotation players in Toni Kukoč, Luc Longely, Steve Kerr, Bill Wennington, Pete Myers. Was not the same team MJ left. - In the 1st round, they faced a Cavs team with BOTH Brad Daugherty and Larry Nance out with injury. They got injured before the playoffs started. - In the semifinals, a huge myth is spread that if a bad call didn't happen, the Bulls make the ECF. Which isn't true. That call happened in game 5, not 7. There is no guarantee they win the series if they don't call that bad call. Also, they still had their chance in game 7 and got beat by 10. No excuses. The Knicks were also undermanned. Their starting PG Derek Harper was suspended early in game 3 and missed games 4 AND 5 entirely. He was their best perimeter defender and bailed out the Knicks offensively many times in the playoffs. He was an Allstar caliber player before joining the Knicks. Despite this, the Knicks still won. There is no way they beat the Pacers, let alone the Rockets.
Saying the Bulls have no excuses because they lost Game 7 while the bad call was in Game 5 is like saying the 2002 Kings have no excuses because the haul of terrible calls were in Game 6, not Game 7. And the Derek Harper suspension isn’t something that should be used against the Bulls. Harper made a stupid decision and got punished accordingly. It isn’t the Bulls fault he threw JoJo English to the ground right in front of David Stern.
Pippen was a very good fit and his contribution must be fully acknowledged, but individually there have been many players greater than him in the history of the NBA
Thats only true with the knowledge of the future. Kobe is as good/better than Shaq, when you look at entire career. However these Lakers were absolutely Shaq's team and it wasnt that close. Kobe was Robin at that time.
@@MarekPar743 I don’t agree with anything you’re saying regardless of hindsight Kobe was that guy and he established that in 2001 and completely solidified that in 2009 he was what you could call a “batman” prime Shaq is so different tho and at no point in his career was kobe ever better than prime Shaq that’s why I called him “Superman”
Great video, quality content as usual Sir Rust a lot, just wanted to say a couple things, with these particular examples you laid out I think there's a little bit more to it that was more personalized then even you said with Shaq and Kobe that was just two Alphas clashing over multiple things, Shaq was petty as fuck toward Kobe sometimes, I remember Kobe calling Shaq fat and out of shape, it got so bad that at one of those All-Star games Phil Jackson had to tell the team not to participate in any individual contests, and Phil telling Kobe that they were "losing Shaq" when Kobe was having that great scoring streak in 2003 In the case of Kyrie, look at the stuff this dude has been on in the past few years, and personality-wise he and LeBron just didn't fit I wasn't surprised it ended the way that it did In the case of Scottie Pippen I don't think he would be nearly as resentful if Michael Jordan wasn't as famous as he was, not only is Scottie Pippen Robin he is Robin at the absolute highest level to where he is synonymous with the term, if Michael Jordan was as famous as like a Tim Duncan or something like that we wouldn't be hearing shit coming from Scottie over the years, and to be quite Frank being teammates with Michael Jordan drastically overrated Scottie Pippen's Legacy I highly doubt that in twenty or thirty years we're going to see guys like Klay Thompson and Chris Bosh and Middleton pull some of the bullshit here, throughout NBA history there's been a number of guys who were happy to be the robin whether it's Kevin McHale, Manu Ginobili, now Anthony Davis etc.,
Look at this way.. *Pippen has always got MJ's back.. until Pippen realized that MJ doesn't have his back.* A little while after the Last Dance documentary, Pippen and others expressed some sadness about how Pippen felt disrespected about how he was portrayed.. And MJ didn't show he cared. This drama saga is repercussion of that. I understand the Robin connotation 0:10.. *MJ should have just went to clarify and support Pippen immediately and all through out. Should have been a lot simpler..* *The way he is acting.. Pippen is an offended brother..*
I honestly think part of the reason Kevin Durant agreed to join the warriors was because he felt the NBAs narrative was going to be LeBron vs Steph for the rest of the decade and he'd get forgotten as a Charles Barkley Type, who was just a footnote to the grater story of his Era
@@zackthedestro2771 no shit. To win, you (almost always) need a guy like Mike, and some other really really fuckin good players like Scottie. But when those teams lose games, who has to answer to the media and handle the criticism? Very rarely is it the number two guy.
@@limsrusill mike did not make Scottie a 6 time champion they both played important roles obviously Jordan was the main reason why they won. Also to say that Pippen would be alright at best is kinda disrespectful he was a great player in his own right with or without jordan
Oh you mean it was 7 PPG Pippen off the bench that finally allowed MJ to win a playoff series? Get out lol. Kareem never won anything without Magic Johnson or Oscar Robertson, in fact he missed the playoffs 2 times in his prime, but you don't hear the same nitpicking with him.
Since we don't care about context, we could technically say Magic Johnson never beat MJ in the playoffs. You haters love to point out how MJ never beat Bird. Also, Bird never beat Patrick Ewing in the playoffs either. Guess what? Shaq got his ass kicked by Karl Malone two years in the row in the playoffs. Does that mean anything, or did Karl Malone simply have the better team?
In a lot of ways I feel for Scottie Pippen. I have him down as the 3rd best small forward in NBA history. He was an MVP candidate after MJ retired the first time. In 94 they won 55 games and lost in 7 to the Knicks who went to the finals. A couple calls go another way and they make it to the finals without Jordan. Pippen was the main guy on a championship contender and he is obscenely underrated. Everyone talks about Jordan winning 6 titles, but the team he played with was a championship contender without him. I can't think of another team, aside from the modern Warriors that can lose an all time great (without a trade of an equal talent) at the height of his career and still be a contender. So much of that is down to Pippen. Jordan was the best player on that team, but he owes a massive part of his legacy to Pippen.
Appreciate this deep dive rusty. Just want to point out that there is a difference between Narcissism and Strong self belief in terms of the psychological world. To most people it would seem it's the same and there are a few people in the NBA who are legitimate narcissists. To put it simply, a narcissist generally are more people who don't take responsibility for their actions nor feel empathy for other people because they believe they don't need to as they are on a pedestal above everyone else. On the other hand someone with strong belief in themselves legitimately believes in their ability to perform and believes they can out perform other people. I understand you're analogy but because it's something that can only be seen when you fully understand it it's so easy to confuse the two.

But at the end of the day the person who contributes the most should get the most appreciation.
@@anxiety1018 for sure, but you have to appreciate the others who support the superstar
On the other Hand this "mythology " is what made basketball the sport that it is today. Basketball had a huge rise in popularity during the Jordan era and the Jordan era became popular because it built a narrative around Jordan.
@@anxiety1018 nope.
Well the kd analogy was bad because Steph wasn’t a Robin he was a whole super star himself
Idk if it’s true but I’ve heard Kyrie even apologized to Lebron after the Boston stuff because he had no idea how hard it would be to be the leader and number 1 dude on a team
It's true. Kyrie mentioned it
He called him, ironically it was when LeBron and Kevin Love were having dinner together.
It is true Kyrie not built to be a number 1
@@JD-ny3vz Kyrie definitely has the skills but being the leader comes with availability which isnt very Kyrie
@@leoster6118 Yea I'd never question Kyries skills he's one of the most skilled players ever
The only thing wrong with this is I feel like Kobe shouldn’t even be compared to Kyrie or Scottie because Kobe was not Robin he was Batman to Shaqs Superman.
How could you call him Robin when he was almost just as important to the team and eventually overtook Shaq in scoring, not to mention, Shaq left Kobe and Kobe proved in my opinion that he was better than Shaq(mostly because of work ethic and how their careers turned out more so than ability and impact because prime Shaq could’ve been the best player ever)
Meanwhile there’s a huge, huge gap between players like lebron and Michael and Kyrie and Scottie, but Kobe himself is literally in the next tier after MJ and LBJ

Shaq: “I don’t feel like working on my free throws”
Kobe: “EEEEVVVVVIIILLLLLL!!!”
These deep dives are some of the best basketball content available, love them so much.
Bro it just shows how much better they were even at odds. Just imagine a cordial relationship…the league wouldve been theirs for a 5-8 year period

absoulety LOVING the deep dives. great topics, great insight!
by far the greatest deep dives, and honestly one of the best nba videos i have ever seen. keep up the absolute phenomenal work rusty
The best deep dive was the one before , about Simmons and mental struggles
Some will argue KD was Batman because of the 2 Finals MVP, but it was clearly always Steph's team
That warriors team was the Justice League. No Batman and Robin in there. KD = Superman, Steph = Batman, Klay = Green Lantern, Dray = Martian Manhunter
D-Wade truly the ultimate teammate. Idk how many FMVPS in their prime taking a backseat giving someone else the keys to the kingdom.
Well..... #30 Wasnt a FMVP but is at the same level as #3. 2 time league MVP Curry became the 2nd offensive option once KD arrived.

UA-cam recommended me Rusty back when he was saying he's hoping to reach 100k subscribers, been watching ever since
Makes you appreciate how well run and how humble GSW players are
Your deep dives provide such a good split between in depths discussions about basketball itself as well as the mentality and context behind these athletes and their thoughts, feelings, and experiences
That's why I appreciate a guy like klay Thomson.
For years people wanted him to leave GS and have his own team but he has this chill mentality of not chasing status but instead alongside with Stephen Curry and try to win as much as possible.
"Appreciate greatness... appreciate the game."
You know it’s gonna be a banger when dusty posts a video in weird lighting
This is a really great video rusty. And quite an interesting theme. Love the content, keep it up
couldn't agree more! I cant stand it when watching an after game press conference and all the media do is ask all of the players there about the one best player on the court. " ow do you feel about this players performance", "how it is to see this player do this and that", bla bla bla
It is very disrespectful and just plain annoying.
Great video!
I'd also add that you can be a great number 2 without having an inflated ego. It's called being a team first player. Pau Gasol had no problem playing second fiddle to Kobe. Same with Khris Middleton playing next to Giannis.
Klay to Steph
Booker to CP3
Lowry to Kawhi
I just watched a two hour beef Ad on your channel… I hope you appreciate that, that should be some nice revenue.
He also similar to bosh also wanting to win more
Which lead to more rings.
Unfortunately players like wade and bosh are always underrated due to this.
Theirs people who don’t think wade is top 40 where I think he can be as high as 10. At very least top 15.
Which is sad to say the least.
And bosh man don’t even get me started that poor man…
Wade Top 15-20
The insight you bring to these deep dives is pretty remarkable, especially for someone as young as you. Hats off to you, man.

Good shit Rusty, this is great quality from you & Rudy. The editing, clips, black & white, this was a great video all around.
Great video! Can't ever forget there is 5 dudes on the court playing as a team!
They jus need drama and narratives to talk Abt is prob y they talk about it cuz if they didn't alot players would b staying put n it b less chaotic less discussion to talk about
NBA runs on what academic historians call Great Men of History narrative if you think about...IMO I find it very bothersome, but hey it make revenue

The mermaid man and barnacle boy had me dying lmao
Pippen's 1994 season is great but overrated. People love to nitpick any injury with MJ's opponents but don't apply the same logic to Pippen. For whatever reasons. Here are some details about the 1994 season that few know about, or don't care to acknowledge because they hate MJ:
- MJ was the only one who left the Bulls.
W details
Saying the Bulls have no excuses because they lost Game 7 while the bad call was in Game 5 is like saying the 2002 Kings have no excuses because the haul of terrible calls were in Game 6, not Game 7.
And the Derek Harper suspension isn’t something that should be used against the Bulls. Harper made a stupid decision and got punished accordingly. It isn’t the Bulls fault he threw JoJo English to the ground right in front of David Stern.

Great video, quality content as usual Sir Rust a lot, just wanted to say a couple things, with these particular examples you laid out I think there's a little bit more to it that was more personalized then even you said with Shaq and Kobe that was just two Alphas clashing over multiple things, Shaq was petty as fuck toward Kobe sometimes, I remember Kobe calling Shaq fat and out of shape, it got so bad that at one of those All-Star games Phil Jackson had to tell the team not to participate in any individual contests, and Phil telling Kobe that they were "losing Shaq" when Kobe was having that great scoring streak in 2003
In the case of Kyrie, look at the stuff this dude has been on in the past few years, and personality-wise he and LeBron just didn't fit I wasn't surprised it ended the way that it did
In the case of Scottie Pippen I don't think he would be nearly as resentful if Michael Jordan wasn't as famous as he was, not only is Scottie Pippen Robin he is Robin at the absolute highest level to where he is synonymous with the term, if Michael Jordan was as famous as like a Tim Duncan or something like that we wouldn't be hearing shit coming from Scottie over the years, and to be quite Frank being teammates with Michael Jordan drastically overrated Scottie Pippen's Legacy
I highly doubt that in twenty or thirty years we're going to see guys like Klay Thompson and Chris Bosh and Middleton pull some of the bullshit here, throughout NBA history there's been a number of guys who were happy to be the robin whether it's Kevin McHale, Manu Ginobili, now Anthony Davis etc.,

Should have been a lot simpler..*
*The way he is acting.. Pippen is an offended brother..*

Jordan went 1-9 without pippen never forget
Oh you mean it was 7 PPG Pippen off the bench that finally allowed MJ to win a playoff series? Get out lol. Kareem never won anything without Magic Johnson or Oscar Robertson, in fact he missed the playoffs 2 times in his prime, but you don't hear the same nitpicking with him.
Good. Now will you care to include context, or do you just love to hate on the GOAT?
Since we don't care about context, we could technically say Magic Johnson never beat MJ in the playoffs. You haters love to point out how MJ never beat Bird. Also, Bird never beat Patrick Ewing in the playoffs either. Guess what? Shaq got his ass kicked by Karl Malone two years in the row in the playoffs. Rusty - The gift that keeps on giving. These deep dives are fantastic.
Great work on the edit Rudy lol... well done Rusty.
