Glad you all made it over the tightrope bridge, I guess the bridge maker wanted to do little acrobatics to keep you on your toes. Great filming thank you.

I did this a few days ago. I left Hurunui Hut at 4am, hoping to make it all the way to Boyle (i did not! I made it to the road at windy shelter). I saw a symbol for a bridge on FarOut at the big river after Hurunui hut. When I got there it was still completely dark and i found a "bridge" made of just two wires - one for hands and one for feet. Surely this isn't the bridge i thought?? This is way too sketchy. But then i remembered earlier the bridge with just the 3 cables, so just thought well, this isn't totally unexpected for the TA, you never know what it's going to throw at you. It was raining and completely dark. I did a test crossing without my pack on the 2 wires. It was super sketchy, i was bouncing all over the place, my legs were shaking, feet kept slipping, and i was fearing for my life. I went forward about 20 metres, past the tree that overgrown on this "bridge", and then i saw the actual bridge reflecting from my headlamp 😂. Definitely the dumbest thing I've done on the TA yet.

Hahaha glad you didn't try to go across on that other rope, I think I remember what you're talking about and it looks like just a cable pully for equipment or something.

I guess any bridge is better than no bridge.

Hope you guys are doing alright, I see it's been 3 weeks since the last vid and I hope it's not because of something bad. Stay safe!

Oh my goodness those flies! Hope they don’t bite too much..? The trek was beautiful in this episode. ❤ The huts seem like a nice reprieve from the elements.

Their bites swell up worse than mosquitoes:( but they are easier to kill

    Hey there
Great watching along. I have followed on all your hikes. I am a Camerman so I am curious on your camera configuration and how you are editing as you go whilst keeping the kit light.

So I'm using a Sony A7IV with a f/4 24-105mm lens. This trip I had a light little 1lb tripod. My process on trail is I pull the videos off onto my phone(1tb SD card), then edit it on my phone in inShot. Amazingly my S21 with Inshot I can edit full 4k videos. Then just upload when I have wifi/service.
All told it's about 5lbs of stuff and you could lighten it significantly, but since we weren't planning to do huge days I could afford the extra weight.

@@QuadzillaHikes Thanks for getting back to me. And thanks for all your videos. Great coverage, and wonderful to see all the terrain. I have climbed a fair few of the peaks in NZ including Mt Aspiring and quite a few in Mt Cook, as well as most of the South Island tramps. It really is magic county and I am keen to do the whole South Island. So it is great to follow along and get a sense of the conditions and times. Thanks for letting me know about the gear. Does that all fit in your ‘fanny pack’? I ask because I have been in deluges in NZ and wonder how you went keeping it dry? The only thing not to like is the sand flies!!!Coming from Australia where we have so many things that literally can bite and kill you it is an acceptable compromise. I have found the sand flies can’t bite through thin material unlike the snakes we have. So having a protective layer is feasible.

Why are there 80% fewer birds? Logging?

Predators - rats, stoats, weasels and possums. Introduced mammals have wreaked havoc with the native species of birds in New Zealand

Predators that were introduced by colonists kill a lot of birds, and then humans in general killing things.

A month and a half on the trail. How delightful. I feel like taking a month off to just go out and walk in nature.
