You could still go for a Reliant robin. They're a lot of fun to chuck around.
naa that not got the cooky coolness haha
And if you chuck them around like Jezza might I suggest stabilisers (like those on a child's bike) 🤣🤣
Quirky little vehicle.......for someone 8ft lanky [ OK I'm close ]
A reliant robin is a car licence now. Which is funny since that opened up the Piaggio MP3 loophole where apparently that is also a car.
@@zephyr139 that is incorrect. They are still allowed on a Cat A. They still fall under trikes.
Strangely you do need to be 21 to drive one even if you have a car license.
www.gov.uk/ride-motorcycle-moped
@@MichaelACowan It can be 'ridden' on a full motorcycle licence but there was a specific change in the law which means you can also drive it on a full car licence (B) if over 21. You cannot get A until you're 21 anyway. That law change also means you can drive the Piaggio MP3 on a CAR licence (B) without L plates or even a helmet!
OMG I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Kei trucks, they are just so expensive! I'm not as tall as you but at 6"2 the idea of driving tiny cars just amuses me.
So, in the UK we can still do a MSVA (motorcycle single vehicle approval) test on self built motorcycles, this includes trikes. There is very little stopping you from buying a moped, and modifying the frame with a basic two wheel rear axel, and then adding a fixed trailer, or adding a mounting point for a trailer. Just keep in mind about the weight limits for hauling. It'd be a 'cheap' long term project if you wanted to do it. Probably very rewarding custom build.
Always enjoy your content, i can hear the enthusiasm in your voice, until the price increase is mentioned. Also, was great to see you in a video i watched last night, bikers random acts of kindness, saw your old jockey wheel video included. Keep up the good work young man!
We've got a couple of blokes at work that drive the micro cars on their CBT. I looked I into them for driving them on A2 but yh at £3k it's bike money
Many years ago, I had a Reliant van (yes, just like Del boy, only baby poop beige instead of yellow) which I drove on my full (back then there was only provisional and full) bike license, this got me through my car test first go.
BTW, it's 'ah-peh', not 'ayp'. In this context it is Italian for 'bee', like Vespa means 'wasp'... :)
I have been seriously considering buying a tuktuk lately myself. Main problem i think i will have is anything different like that if i leave it parked up i have a feeling i will catch people sitting in it.
I passed my car test 20 years ago. Couldnt wait to get my first car (Corsa). Then i got a driving job and did around 1000 miles per week. Driving on our roads made me miserable, stressed and depressed. I have my bike now and hope i never have to drive again..
They sell AM-compliant cars with a top speed of 45 km/h here, but they are almost as expensive as a regular small car. Anyone can get a used car in good condition for 10-20% of the price. It would pay off to just get a regular B drivers license in no time at all.
I saw a video of an ape with a Hayabusa engine in it once. It was as stupid as it sounds. Probably a blast to build and drive, though.
Something that has always interested me is the Kei cars from Japan. Small cars for mainly around town and things. Engine size is restricted to 660cc iirc. There are a variety that they make. Some of my favourites include the Suzuki Carry and and Cappuccino. They didn't sell very many of them here because they mainly sell in Japan due to a legal thing where these little economic kei cars are cheaper to insure/tax or something to encourage smaller, more efficient cars in built up areas.
Like you though, I'm not a huge fan of cars, so unless I had alot of spare space and money, I'd probably never go for one. I would consider something like the BMW c1 (the scooter with the roof?) if it had a bigger engine in. Maybe a 250 or 500. Especially the ones with the box on the back. They look great, plus weather protection must be amazing.
Haha yer a little Kei flatbed would be great lol but maybe too car like.
I love a small, unusual vehicle so stuff like the Apes are a great laugh. For you though as a somewhat more realistic alternative, would you ever have a sidecar? It'd be easiest on its own bike, though I guess you could take it on and off the Diversion if you had to, but as the laws around sidecar construction are still surprisingly easy, you could have a load of fun making a modular system. Sometimes it's a traditional passenger tub, sometimes it's enclosed, sometimes it's more of a flatbed trailer. You'd avoid a cramped cabin because you'd just be sat on a normal bike, and still enjoying open air riding. Thoughts?
What about a reliant van? Can’t you ride/drive those on a bike licence? You would look like del-boy however 😂
I only have a bike license and never wanted a car, the storage was a issue for me bikes, so I went for a Suzuki burgman 200 the storage is almost double compared to the 400, of a top box was also fitted the storage would be close to car boot capacity combined lol,
I remember seeing these in the alps in Italy carrying big loads of wood up the mountains, engine absolutely screaming.
I am sooo glad I am not the only one with these thoughts.
I don't know what would be in involved where you are but either attaching a side car or buying an outfit might be a good choice. In South Australia you can pick a bike and sidecar outfit at a reasonable price and you can ride it on your bike licence.
From what I’ve seen the whole food truck “hype” has skyrocketed the prices of these types of vehicles over the past few years, it’s obviously not the only reason why they’ve become a lot more expensive, but it is a big contributor…
The amusement park I used to work at had one, I’ve never sat in it but hung around it talking to the colleague operating it, and it seemed quite cramped inside, I’m fairly tall (6’1-ish) and you’re a bit taller iirc, so physically fitting in it might be a slight issue 😅
Also fun fact, Ape in Italian means bee… they probably named it that because of the annoying sound it makes 😂
Have you tried looking online for a chinese knock off version at a fraction of the price?
we have a guy down here in newzealand that rode one 1100kms back from the city he bought it in (took a week) xD
Motorcycle trailer. There you go, carry whatever you like with one of those. Might need to modify a bike to make it suitable for towing and insurance would be interesting but it could definitely work.
Already talked about this in the comments, how much weight can they take?
It's a shame you need a full car licence for a Kei truck. Something like a Suzuki Super carry, or smaller.
I guess you saw the Ben Collins (original Stig) recent video driving the tuned Hyabusa converted TukTuk (3 wheeler) with the 'Nurburgring King' Misha? 🤔😏👍
😎🇬🇧
Nope, I do not really watch much automotive content.
@@spicy110 Ok fair dos, but, it is funny to watch, Stig trying to man handle the high revving motor and sequential gears with a seatbelt thats barely usable and a craned neck as with helmet he cant sit straight upright hahaha (its ok, its on a track)
I will defo check it out haha
I think that it's pronounced "ah-pay", as ape is Italian for bee -- no idea what Italian for ape is though ;-) Too rich for my blood too. You could always buy one in Italy and drive it back -- the old high mileage ones go for around £1.5K.
Could you do a video on what you can ride slash drive from CBT license upwards
I have 2 video on that. ua-cam.com/video/Rtiqnbb8sAE/v-deo.htmlsi=ik6XjHoEHyFOttkP
a kei truck is my ideal utility vehicle
I think you can get motorcycle trailer s or a side car for one of your bike you could even make your own side car or trailer it make a good project for your channel
Nope I will not ride a bike with a trailer, really do not like the idea of them buuuuut for really short trips I could maybe but then what weight can you take? 4 tyres and 2 rims have a bit of gravity in them. Haha
Literally just placed an order for a Subaru Sambar..... I need to be able to pick up lumber and also transport a bike every now and then.
Get it done sir, they hold their value if you wish to buy another bike
I need some way of taking the dog with me when I am on the bike. The children are grown up and self sufficient but I really miss the dog when I am outandabout. I could get an Aral sidecar rig but I understand that a sidecar kills the joy of biking. Ahhhh first world problems!😂
I have seen a small dog carried, wearing goggles, in a basket affixed to the tank of a Moto Guzzi. Looked cool.
try the "qute" micro car
You never need a car until you have one, then you can never do without one…🤣🤣
I know a few people who switched to bikes and sold their cars so not always haha
Can you fit a tow bar and trailer to a bike?
You will have to make one of your bikes into one
haha I could not do that to derek!
SPICY!!!!!
That's me name!
@@spicy110 😊😊😅
Hope this helps
I plan on getting a car for me and my partner but more as a car for my partner, I will take my car test anyways so I have the ability to drive it encase I need it. To be fair I have a son so that changes things a small bit.
I still plan on using my zzr 1100 as my daily driver til the day it dies.
Yer as soon as you have kids cars tend to follow through necessity.
@@spicy110 Although I still am going to use my bike for pleasure and going to work. When my bike needed some repairs over a course of a month my grandfather dropped me off at work for a while.
45 minute journey turned to 1hr and 45m! Thank god I only have to go in 1/2 times a week.
k class
tow a trailer with a Messerschmitt?
completely aggree with your take. But instead of the sensible way of smaller and lighter, cars are actually gettin gradually bigger and heavier.
this whole world is going backwards
Hear me out, none runner smart car, with your xj6 engine in it 🤔
That would still need a car licence. Haha
@@spicy110 ok so instead of a bike engine have the bike handling, the carver you can have on a bike liscene and its very quirky as it leans into turns
😂
No the price has gone stupid. Plus they are not made any more.
Just get the wife to drive you around
She also only has a bike licence. Lol
Much cheaper to pass your car test and just hire a car on the odd day you need one. With your road experience, a couple of lessons should do it
Great video my friend made a trike car from a reliant back dif DIY self bild car
i wish i could afford a vehicle like that too
why is everything so expensive :(
