Thank you I might try because mine randomly flashed and shutoff but I need to basically get a new board because it isn’t getting hot anywhere but the area that has the chips
This is just a reminder for me 5:50

Thank you! I fix broken controllers to resell them and I had one that would not power up sitting around for weeks, just couldn't bear to throw it out. Found your video and I now have a fully functional controller! Thanks again!
I have half of the controller not working, abyx, d pad and rb/lb not working
@@georgecroney6168 interesting 🤔
@tadmcdole4301 have you ran into a controller that wont turn on with the xbox button but if you connect it with usb it works fine, but the xbox button still doesn't work?
There's also kind of spray with a frozen liquid that makes your life easier when detecting a short-circuit. Basically you spray the board ( connected of course ) which makes a thin "ice" layer that lasts for 20/30 secs. If some component is making a short-circuit, you will see how the area around starts to "defrost" very quickly.
Whats it called
@@oscar1081 i dunno what country u r from, but try with failure detector freeze spray. Im from Argentina, and here it is called "Localizador de fallas"
@@cristianalbacete4465 oh thanks, i know spanish so i can tell that translates to fault localizer
@@oscar1081 sherlock there is also google.
For a few days now I've been having synchronization problems with my controller. It all started when I tried to turn on the controller. I press the button, as usual, but I notice that it doesn't flash as long as normal. So I think the problem is that my batteries are probably weak. I open the panel, take the batteries and put them on the charging station. Everything works, the batteries are finally recharged after 2 hours. (These are Energizer brand batteries, this is not the package that Microsoft sells.) Well, it's from now on that's when I have problems. I put the batteries in the right direction, I turn on my controller, and hop, impossible to synchronize it. The button flashes abnormally, as if the battery were low. So I decide to do option two, which is to connect the wire. The peripherals are installed (I am on my PC), and I take this opportunity to install the latest Firmware. A few seconds fall, and everything stops. Soon after, the update stops suddenly and the controller turns off. My controller is dead. I think the problem is that the batteries were rechargeable and when I wanted to connect the controller to the computer, the system thought I wanted to recharge both batteries. So the system caused a short circuit and the firmware did not install properly, therefore corrupted. I now have a controller that is no longer useful. I would like to know if people have experienced the same situation and if there is a way to reset the controller. Please note that nothing is working anymore. No more lights come on.
I haven't even dropped mine and next day went to use it and wouldn't even turn on
Shadow Wolf same
Shadow Wolf I threw mine at the ground and it started working again
Shadow Wolf same
Same mine just went out during a cave run on ARK.. Not even trying to turn on even with wire.. It is 2 yrs old but never been abused.. Think it's a capacitor
Bought mine new, only lasted 30 minutes....
Slot1Gamer, you mentioned you would add the capacitor value in the description but I don't see anything. I understand you said you don't necessarily need but but I want to replace it. Does anybody else know what value C30 should be, I couldn't find a schematic anywhere.
what capacitor is it on the elite series 1 controller? anyone know? is it the same? also i have a multimeter what should the capacitor read?? please
UPDATE: its ok its the c33 on elite and older normal pads. i replaced and all working again. these controllers dont have c30 capacitors think it may me due to them burning possibly im guessing.
I'm going totally insane trying to figure out the issue with one of my XB1 controllers... The controller totally refuses to turn on via the Xbox Home button, but will turn on instantly, and work perfectly, (even wirelessly), if I plug a usb cable in for a second. It's never been dropped, never been thrown, or had anything spilled on it, actually this controller has been barely used at all. I've tried every suggestion I can find, but nothing has helped, it just refuses to turn on no matter what I do without a usb cable... Guess it's time to just throw it out a window...
Same problem .It's a boot problem
Necro a bit but if anyone has that issue there are 2 main steps:
1. Update filmware (make sure it's working for 30 minutes on cable without turning off)
2. Fix battery compartment by stretching pins a little and general cleaning.
@@vadnegru Tried that a year ago, even went as far as totally replacing the battery contacts - nothing.
ever find any fix to this?
Same problem, anyone got to fix it?
Thank you !! You just saved me buying a new controller !!!
I see u every where in these type of vids
For any of you with a newer controller, simply remove the circuit labeled “C33”. My controller didn’t work at ALL, I just shoved out c33 with a screwdriver, and IT WORKED RIGHT AWAY!!
Ok I’m gonna try it, I let you know the results
Didnt work
So the day one controller won't turn on at all plugged in or battery's what do you think might he working with it
The same issue I had with mine, very common on day one controllers
@@Slot1Gamer I have a winter forces xb one controller and it got shorted to the rechargable kit somehow, im guessing its the same problem.
Mine stopped working awhile ago. I have the one s version.
It just blinks once when I press the X button and thats it. No follow up blinks or anything. Basically it wont turn on.
Same
Same as my boys
@@janetoleary5177 I think its an error with the battery sensor or something. When the batteries reach around 50% this happens.
But when the batteries are fresh, out of the container, it goes back to its normal useful self.
Same here
what if it just doesn’t blink? even if i plug it in, it won’t start up. it’s like the new batteries i put in don’t work. please reply
i know this is late but i have a similar problem but the thing with mine is that not only does it not allow for usb cables to connect to my controller, my battery packs when fully charged get drained by my controller within 5 minutes and during that 5 minutes my d-pad overheats like you said. do i need to just remove the ceramic capacitor and will that stop the overheating as well as the battery drainage or is that another issue?
+PoundaR open it up, you have a short circuit.
There is a cap close to the dpad which seems to fail a lot and iirc is part of the 5v rail (if the 5v rail is shorted the controller can’t charge)
how much was the ceramic capacitor and where do i get one? Also what is the correct type of capacitor? Thanks i know this is years down the line
Does anyone know the value of C30?. I don't see it in description, and couldn't find a schematic.
If you figure it out Plz update.
Im surprised there isnt easily accessible schematics for these things on google. Especially since there are so many console/controller repair services.
Hi! What value have c30 cap? I just have 2 controllers with blow c30 cap.
You don’t have to de-solder the wires to get to the motherboard below it, if you remove the right and left bumper the triggers with open more and you can just pull the board up just be careful tho
That’s another way to do it for sure 😊
Mine either makes a sound when I try to turn it on then home button flashes or the home button doesn't turn on and it works then my batteries just die
Me too IDK how to fix
I raged at fornite and threw my controller on the ground and now it’s not turning on...so I should take the controller apart and just push down that dash board thing??
yep try it :)
that is the same thing i just did and i didnt know why it wasnt turning on so i came to this video. i havent tried to push down that thing yet so i will. also is it possible for the circut board to break like in half?
same
Exnivus did it work?
I did the same wtf
Okay so how do i remove the capacitor? Where do i get a new one and are there specific specs for it,if so please advise?
You can desolder it or you can knock it off
They are filter caps usually that go bad, doesn’t need replacing
Hey, I have an elite controller. The problem is the same but the C30 capacitor is not there. It feels like it's another capacitor among those that are in this area. What do I do?? Help please!
Thank you a lot! Exactly what I was looking for
Can you tell me the value of the ceramic capacitor you changed cause thats my problem too and i can't find the correct value, also so you know where I can find the u1(IAEBF, IAEBD or IAEBE) ic??
My controller fell off my desk and turned off, and when I picked it back up it wouldn't turn back on but when I plug it in with a cable it works. Would you know what would be the problem in that case?
Saber760 could be a loose connection inside. The only way to tell is to take it apart, if you know what you are doing.
Lazarus65 I did take it apart and from what I could tell nothing had broken off of the motherboard or was loose. What I noticed was broken was the red wire connected to my left rumble pad
Saber760 Could be a short. Sometimes the 2 boards separate just enough to cause it to not power on. Put it back together just enough so you can put batteries in.
Where can i buy that capacitor? And does it work for series controller?
bro i cant thank you enough my controller broke mid game while playing fortnite it was connected to a charger my mom said she would fix it after my exams but repair services for xbox controller are not in my area so i fixed it myself and the capacitor was the problem now i can play fortnite thx so much
My Xbox controller Sync button doesn’t work and the USB port doesn’t either can you think of anything that’s wrong with it
My controller does not have the same circuit board layout, would it still be c30 on mine been if it is not a ceramic capacitor ?
No part locations will be different
You are looking for if a capacitor is getting hot
I don’t know if you reply still but I got my Xbox one controller 7 months ago and I started having major drift problems so I decided to try to fix it myself and it didn’t work once I put the controller back together my home button won’t turn on my controller it works perfectly fine with a wire but can’t power it on without
What did you do to fix the drift, did you replace the stick assemblies with new ones or just clean out the potentiometers
It just turned off for me and won't turn on.. Microsoft can be really annoying with making their stuff..
It could have a short
Do i need a soldering iron to remove the capacitator? Pls reply
Nah, you can just knock it off
Thanks man, your vid is awesome. It's exactly what I needed!
Only thing.. I don't know anything about capacitors. Could you tell me what kind of capacitor I should look for if I want to solder in a new one? There seems to be so many different specs in capacitors that I can't find the right one.
Thanks :)
I am trying to figure out the same thing.
The board has no capacitors on them at all, they are diodes.
What I would do is buy another controller for parts and steal a working diode off of that. If you have a volt meter you can check to see if the diode is shot or not then simply solder the replacement on.
I would also suggest using flux as it will help your solder flow much much easier.
@@GraphicsByStorm I worked in electronics for 4 years (2 of which I ran an SMT machine). Up until 2018. We had a saying...."flux is your friend"! So true lol.
If you drope down your controller and its not turning on, check the conector that link the two boards toguether. In my case, the impact torn the conector apart the board.
Oh nooo 😂😂does your hand hurt?
@@Pabzz100not my hand. never leave your controller in the hands of a child.
So I threw my controller and not hard or far, then it turned off and now I have this issue where it doesn't power on at all. Idk wtf to look for but I am not spending more money on controllers. I have 3/5 that do not work for the same reason. Any suggestions other than buying more controllers? I'm willing to Frankenstein a few to save one. My elite suffers from stick drift.
I am having issues myself. The only way i can get it to turn on is to hold the big X button and the sync button down until it does 2 solid flashes then the rapid sync blinks then hit the sync button on the console. After that i am good to go until i set it down too long it shuts off or if i turn off my system. I might have to order a new power board or find another 1697 and swap boards out.
Disclaimer: most likely your controller has 0$ warranty repair so just send it out and have a good working controller. My problem that this thing not work in my country, i imported the gamepad.
My series controller getting hot in the bottom so maybe that is the issue. Also its making beeping sound when i plug in usb cable and sound changes a bit when i press power or connect buttons. On batteries sound is very muted and only occurs when pressing on button.
hi. Can you help me? I have two x1 controller with same issue. with batteries they are blink once and powering off. With usb cable, they are working perfectly.
What battery are you using
New Duracel batteries.
I have the same exact problem , hadn’t used the remote in a week, worked perfectly fine before and now this :(
anyone know what brand capacitor the one on the controller is?
Idk if I'll get a reply, but what happened was I "dropped" the controller and thought it was broken, but then was able to "fix" it and put it together through watch a few tutorials, but it only worked with a cable. However the right trigger felt dodgy it felt a bit too tight. So I unassembled it and reassembled it and then unfortunately it didn't work at all anymore. Any ideas what the problem is?
if you have the controller with two pcbs, it could be that you didn't connect them firmly when putting back together
Without taking the controller apart, when I left the controller plugged in to the side of my box (no batteries) for like 20 minutes it was noticeably hot. Is it safe to say that confirms the same issue as in the vid? Or might it get hot from some other reason?
carnafillian113 mine does the same thing xbox one s doesn't come on but gets extremely hot and the xbox button lights up but it doesn't come on or vibrate
+carnafillian113 getting hot would indicate a short somewhere inside, most likely a capacitor like in my video :)
Is the capacitor there xbox 360 controllers has better capacitors why they had to choose low grade capacitors in their Xbox one controllers great mistake from Microsoft. Why they didn't choose a longer lasting capacitor make of metal like the one use on computer mother boards but smaller ones that means they will fail even new controller at some point because their ceramic one can not handled energy charge so it gets hot.
I was charging mine fine suddenly stank of burning. It switches.on for a second them dies. Any advice?? This is the 2nd pad in a month to do this.
My controller got hot under the d pad and didn’t turn on one day then I plugged in a charger then it turned on once then no longer turned on. Rip
My controller is a few months old, and died mid game. Turned back on and after a minute it turned off then we tried turning it on and it started flashing and dead no power even with the cable no power no signs of life.... What should I do????
I've dropped my controller by mistake sometimes but it always worked. One day I logged off and when I logged on it wasn't switching on
I had a wire on the left side get disconnected. If I reconnect the wire will that fix it?
Any clue if it works fine with cable but not tuning on with batteries? Battery Contacts are fine and the 2,9v is coming into the board.. Cleaned Everything with 99% alkohol..
make more videos bruz
We're do you get you motherboard I bought one before and it was the wrong one and I only see on version of it on Amazon help!!!!!
killer K EBay is a better place to find replacements. The first thing you need to look for is the model number of the controller where the batteries go. The easiest way to tell is if you don't have a 3.5 headphone jack then it's a 1537 model. If it has a 3.5 jack and the front is not all one piece then you have a 1697 model. The front is all one piece it is a 1708.
How do you replace the capacitor though? Where did you purchase the capacitor?
Whats the name of the piece that needs to be replaced? Any ebay or aliexpress link? Im from chile cant buy from amazon or similar :(
On mine it was a faulty ceramic capacitor
6v
I tested if a ceramic capacitor had failed, but none of em seem to heat up but one thing is if you seat your finger on the SMD transistor for the led it. turns on the led but doesn't stay on when I remove my finger
This was exactly what was wrong with my controller. Thank you very much!
What happened was I was playing the old just cause games and my controller just turned off the power just stopped coming to the controller and the only for it to turn on was holding the home button
That stuffed animal throwing the controller was pretty funny.
I've 1914 Xbox series x controller went off and hitting up not sure what capacitor to remove I've already opened it
Thanks , but mine is getting more hot on the left direction on the d pad is it the same thing ?
you'll have to open it up and see, probs is the same fault
My board doesn't have the c30 cap , maybe a revised board , power issue flashes twice then dies out not detected when plugged in
Should the capacitor even heat up at all? Help please! My elite contoller wont turn on and I've taken it apart looking for the problem. :-(
The capacitor I showed you are fine to not replace it but if you can’t feel any heat you may have a different problem, check the charge port for damage also
What about for the slim controllers? They don't have two sockets, just the one
Can you post what the rating of the capacitor is please?
That pink PS3 controller is beautiful, i tells ya
I'm so lost
The seller I’ve found sells 1206 100uf 107m in 6.5v, 10v, 25v and 50v. Which one should I get though?
Get the 6.5v one
@@Slot1Gamer thx very much. if i can bother a bit further... that'd be the same for series controller right?
I think my Xbox one elite controller got bricked while watching Netflix. At first I thought the charger broke, but I don't think that is the case. I plugged in the charger to my phone and it worked. The weird part is 2 hours earlier I was looking on Amazon for replacement grips since the stock grips are complete garbage. Now I have to replace a whole controller. I'm having a bad night. I guess now I have an excuse to buy the series 2 elite controller.
I know this is really really late but I have a xbox one s and my controller just turned off and won't turn back on. The left side of the Dpad gets warm when I try to plug it in, can someone help me with this? Is there something I can do or is it completely done and I need to buy a new controller?
I dropped both of mean 1.5 feet off the bed one continuously goes up the other goes left, don't know how to fix that
Two controllers for me! Both dropped while plugged into a charging cord. They both landed on the port where the microUSB was plugged in.
I swear the next controller (or if I can fix one of mine) I will bubble wrap it and bind it up with duct tape at the charging port!
that sounds like a stuck joystick potentiometer, open the controller and move the joystick (without the thumb stick attached) all the way in every direction, if it is imply stuck, it should come good. If it still doesn't, then the joystick assembly needs replacing
Dropped mine off bed, now completely broken... wtf Xbox
when i TRY to turn it on it just blinks any help ?
Same.
You need to o sinc it up with your console
SAME
There is a sink button the Xbox controller right next to the charging port
So basically XBox one sucks. I never had these issues with my PS4 or PS3 and my dumbass decided to get the Xbox one
The PS4 controllers drop Bluetooth pretty often
@@Slot1Gamer I've never had that issue. Even with the PS3. It had the yellow light one time but did not have the issues like the Xbox one does. From the controller's not connecting, then not turning on, then it starts drifting and looking up of moving sideways, the Xbox overheating. What a pile of garbage. Not worth it just to play Forza Horizon 3 and 4
My controller turns on with the xbox recharchable batteries but not with AA batteries. They dont slip out or anything and they arent dead. When i try to use AA batteries, the xbox logo flashes for a split second then goes away
My controller wont turn on at all it wont connect with a usb and it wont connect with batteries i havent thrown the controller at all or dropped and if i did i only drop it on my bed do you know whats wrong with my controller id apperciate the help (when i press the xbox button on the controller it doesnt blink at all)

i threw my £54 white camo xbox controller on the ground cause i raged and the left trigger wasn't working so i was trying to fix it and i found the black cable was broken so i dissassembled my other xbox controller to change the skin to the white camo. the front part didn't fit because of the part around the xbox home button. so i took it off but it still didn't fit so i put the normal skin back on and put everything back on and now my home button won't work. i am not buying a fucking new controller they cost way too much and i don't have the money I'm 15. how do i fix this
and you're screwed if you don't have the equipment?
and also yes this video was very informative thank you 😊
+IPTMbro all you need is a soldering iron, you can pick them up under $10
IPTMbro for the security screws just break off the think in the middle that’s what I did
you also need basic knowledge and skill in soldering, you can ruin the board if you make a mistake.
i got Sony ps3 move battery in my x box one controller.working perfect and gives me longer game time than before.is it safe.I recharge it cheap 5 dollar Bluetooth headset and just plug it in.its 1430 mh.battery.
Yeah it’ll be fine :)
Seems like youtube has more help than google. I googled this for an hour and found the answer here
How do you fix a controller that has a new batteries in it but it still won’t turn on ?
My controller dosent work even when I use a USB or new batteries.Sometimes it heats up to the left of the d-pad when I have batteries in would I be able to fix this
same
Same
I come back to my controller and it wouldn't turn on. I connect it to USB and it just wouldn't turn on. I tried many other USBs and it still just doesn't turn on. Im not trying to do this either because I know I'm gonna mess up somehow.
My problem is exactly like yours..have u found any method to get the controller alive again?
I use an xbone controller for PC gaming, which just fell off my bed not 10 minutes ago, and now it doesn't work. I can't afford a new one either, so I'm kind of hosed. I also just got Assassin's Creed: Origins, so it's pretty bad timing, since those games play like crap without a controller.
When I plug it in, nothing happens at all. The big X light doesn't come on, nor does the tiny light on the actual plug itself. If I jiggle the plug in a specific way while it's plugged in, the tiny plug light half turns on for like a split second, which leads me to believe that it's an issue with the plug or the plug hole?
Anybody have any ideas?
Dropped my controller and i get the flashing light; controller won't boot up. Followed your instructions but the "left side" wasn't "popped up", so there was nothing that I could see to pop back in. Any ideas?
Can you explain this? When you said "popped up" I didn't really understand what the fix was. Can you please eloborate on this please
I have a white controller. The label only says “for Xbox one” but the board looks different and the face plate is one solid piece. Anyway, I connected power to just the one board and all of the caps seem fine. There is an inductor, though, that gets pretty warm. It is labeled L2. U2-on the opposite side but same location-also gets pretty warm but I’m not sure if it’s because of the inductor or if it’s its own problem
Is it a genuine controller.
Do you have a multi metre with a buzzer? Sounds like you have a short after the inductor
If the inductor is getting really hot it will sink through the board (I think they are just two layers)
Get some freeze spray or canned air and freeze the board, plug it in for a second or two and see where it melts first
@@Slot1Gamer It is genuine. I didn't mean that that's only what it said. That's just what it says about what system it's for. I do have a meter with a buzzer. I tested some caps when I had it apart and they tested how I expected.
This is probably whats happened to my controller, worked fine then suddenly does not want to turn on.I did feel there was a warn spot when I had the cable in.PS the controller does not even vibrate when the charger cable in.
Nice vid, mine elite wont turn on. I dismantled my Xbox One Elite controller and the capacitor doesn't get hot. When I put pressure on the power button the light comes on but doesn't stay on
I have the exact same problem off the shelf... Microsoft really needs to address this!°
Omaro Abbott same here, did you ever fix it ?
works for series x/s controllers as well i took mine apart and pressed the board back together only took 5 mins ❤
i had that same master chief controller and barley bumped it once only a month after i got it and it never turned back on. ive dam near ripped other xbox one controllers in half and they still work, ive always wanted my halo controller to work again :(
Why didn't you return to place of purchase and get a replacement
worked a treat, thanks dude!
Glad I could help :)
mine smells like a party popper i think it shorted, not the first time either
My control was doing the same thing wouldn’t power on. Turns out the aux connector was shorting out. Pulled remote completely apart and out it fell, was not even even soldered. Elite controller mind you. Removed it don’t use it and working like a champ.
feeeeeeeed the algorithm
What capacitor do you need to replace this with
Mine wont even power on while plugged in via usb. Can this still be the ceramic capacitor?
+instagram: razoring Maybe if it’s dead short
lol I threw one of my controllers down the stairs and it still works xD
Mine didnt lucky u
lol
When the xbox one x scorpio edition came out...i bought one ASAP. My controller right out of the box didnt work properly and wouldn't turn on. Anytime I tried turning it on it started smelling like something was burning and then eventually even the smell didnt happen and it is 100% defective. I had extra controllers so i didnt really worry about it. Well here it is probably 3 or 4 years later and im just now going to try to fix it bcuz its still brand new lmao. Hopefully this is the issue.
1 of the main issues are the batteries. Be carefull and put them in the right way. one is + and other is the other way around. so its + -.
I used a multimeter to find out the capacitance of the c30 capacitor. I got 30uF, so it should be replaced by a 5V 30uF capacitor. Or just remove it and don't worry about it.
Controller now working after removing that part
Thanks
My controller will power on with a usb in but when i switch it on with batteries the light flashes once quickly and wont turn on. Any advice
So it works fine on USB?
Slot1Gamer im just retarded i tried with my different rechargable battries that work in another controll but not that one for some reson, it was just a batterie problem but thanks
Mine will turn on with usb, but when I take it out and put in fresh Duracell batteries, it will power on for a little bit (connects) then turns off.
Correction, it won’t stay on when plugged into the system. It will stay on if I plug it into my laptop. It even connects to my laptop
In my case was C32, that was shorted. Thanks for your video!
You're welcome!
So, i finished playing a game n put it on the table and went on a late ride, after i came back i figured id play something, the controller literally wouldnt turn on or do anything
My controller fucked up all i done was place a phone charging thing into a charging bit on it then i unplugged it now my controller is kinda hot and wont work
kalem maxwell Same! I don't know what to do!
Same, have you found a way to solve this?
Harper maxwell Same

Thx for the video
My C33 was the problem
+Asland Zara you’re welcome :)
me too c33 in short, thank you :)
how do u figure out the value ?
