This always struck me as the spirit of a woman, killed by her loved one in a mercy killing (I think of the Robert Latimer case here in Canada), was she sick and suffering, or was he just deluded about what suffering might come in life, now she's dead and watching him cry over her loss. She loves him and feels she needs to say that he didn't mean any harm, he was just trying to spare her from the suffering of life. She watches him hold her body and cry as her spirit slips away, here I go....the gun is gone and so am I...here I go. It's very sad. Aurora has said that the song came to mind after she heard a similar story on the radio.

Totaly agree with you, I'm from Québec and yes the Latimer story is for me directely connect to that, wich lead our law systeme to accepte the ''medical assistence for life ending'' as a choice. An erudite reaction and you are spot on in respect to your comment about Aurora's eyes. I am not aware of any other artist who consistently writes such achingly beautiful songs on dark and difficult subjects as Aurora does. She has a wide range of material, that includes an anthem for our planet ("The Seed"), a response to finding out about the statistics of male suicide ("The River"), a dark, humorous ditty about a serial killer ("In Boxes"), a plea for people to be what they should be ("Daydreamer") and many more, plus an eclectic range of covers of other artist's material (Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, the Beatles, David Bowie, Oasis, Nat King Cole). Aurora also has an amazing personality to match her musical talents. Here are three gems for you 1/ A glimpse of Aurora's quirky personality, in her onstage banter with the audience, at a concert in Amsterdam in 2018, followed by an off the cuff, acapella rendition of Nat King Cole's "Nature Boy" (ua-cam.com/video/1-LtCbPUoTM/v-deo.html), 2/ Aurora singing a duet with herself with a snippet of a Scandinavian folk song in a Tik Tok post from her apartment (ua-cam.com/users/shortsDRS0t6a-res), 3/ "Through The Eyes Of A Child" from Aurora's masterpiece Nidarosdomen (Trondheim Cathedral) concert from 2017 (spoiler alert, you will need a box of tissues near by for this one) (ua-cam.com/video/ncG9zTzsisE/v-deo.html). I hope that you can find the time to watch and enjoy them.

A lovely reaction, as usual. This is one of those songs where there are a few different stories about how it came to be, but I'm not in a position to verify anything. I think the most likely thing is that she imagined this couple and wrote a little story in her head about what kind of love you would need to have for someone in order to euthanize them, and the difficulty of coping with that action afterwards.
You really can't go wrong with Aurora. One thing I might suggest is that you've been listening to songs from almost 10 years ago. Maybe try something newer for your next song? She has released three new videos in the last few months (presumably singles from an upcoming album) - Your Blood might be a good choice.
If you want to stick with the older stuff and work your way forward, the whole concert at Nidarosdomen is really excellent. Lucky and Through the Eyes of a Child from that show would both be solid choices.

    I really enjoyed this reaction😍
The double title of the song stems from its radio premiere on BBC, Aurora told NRK P3 Plateprat:
"Yes, it had to be called that. When it was going on the BBC, on the radio. Because that was such a brutal title, so I had to find another one, but of course I didn't want to give in, so it should be called both. I wouldn't change completely."
    In an interview she said:
“Her, she didn't want to be in this world anymore, and she knew that this man would do anything for her. She asks him to kill her and he said: 'OK, I love you, I would do anything for you.' After he killed her, he became sad because she didn't move anymore and he didn't understand where she went. He didn't understand why she left and he start crying. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad."
    In another interview, she said:
"First of all, I have a really vivid imagination. You know that these things may be happening to someone right now. It's kind of a terrifying thought. I just had to get that thought out of my head - and that's why I wrote this song. But the two characters are actually just made up in my head. I've written many songs about them - maybe I'll make a book with them."

Everyone is already recommending Niderosdomen "Lucky" and "It Happened Quiet" (Live at The Current), so I will suggest "Churchyard" (Live on KEXP), and "Queendom" Loustic Sessions. The Indie88 Hidden Studios set is an overlooked but inspired performance. The rabbit hole leads to a whole underground city.

Hello from Norway ! First time seeing your channel, and I really loved your reaction. I have been following her for 12 years now, and I want to share MY personal favorite performance by her. It's from a concert she did at the Nidarosdomen cathedral, which is the oldest and most beautiful cathedral in Norway, dating back to the 11th century, just after the viking era. There she performed her song "Through The Eyes Of A Child", and everything about that one is EXTREMELY beautiful. The whole concert is extraordinary, and I dare say that it may very well be the most beautiful thing you'll ever see. Curious yet ?? You should be 😉 React to it and learn why. In the meantime I have subbed to your channel. Stay safe and take care! Much love from Norway♥♥♥♥♥

Her fellow musician is Odd Martin Skålnes. He was (together with Magnus Åserud) her most important musical collaborator, producer and guitarist from 2012 to 2016.
The guitar is a Martin LX1 (modified).
The song is about a mercy killing.
A man really loves a woman. She asks him to end her life (perhaps she is terminally ill) and in his love he follows her wish.
I don't know if it's a story from reality or from her vivid imagination, but she tends to dwell lyrically in the various aspects and sometimes extremes of "love"😊

@@teckreactions Aurora is Scandinavian, where assisted suicide is provided by the health care system to those who qualify (mostly terminally ill people). There, it’s not considered murder because it’s done at the request of the person who will be ending their life. They just get a say on when they go, and they can go with very little pain. Unfortunately, MANY other countries don’t provide this service, so people get desperate and mercy killings of this sort happen and are treated as murder. Even where it’s legal, even when someone who is going to die soon anyway, chooses to use this service, there are still people who call it murder. It’s a very divisive topic. I find it extremely interesting that Aurora called it “Murder Song” but we get the perspective of the victim who is not angry at being killed, rather their spirit seems unable to rest at first because they see how distraught the person who killed them is. It flips the script. Aurora has an incredible sense of empathy and she seems to truly understand the nuance and complexity of life and people. This is a song that very few people could pull off, let alone making you feel sorrow and compassion for BOTH people in this situation, who are both victims in different ways. Aurora approachs this topic without judgment but with compassion. I wonder if she called it “Murder Song” because she knew that’s how lots of people would perceive it. She’s almost daring you to listen beyond your first snap judgment. Or perhaps, as difficult as it is, she’s challenging us to see that NOTHING is black and white, even something like murder. Either way, she gets people thinking.

Aurora never intended to be a performing artist, that just happened to her.
She would write songs as a sort of therapy. She would hear or read about something which would then prey on her mind and the only way to get past it was to write a song about it.

Both sadly and happily Aurora has never told us what inspired the song, all she said is: “It’s a complicated story. The poor man is doing something horrible thinking it’s the right thing to do. He plays God and takes his woman’s fate into his own hands. And then he cries, holding her close to him… because he loves her.”
There were some rumors about her reading about an elderly couple where the wife was sick and the husband took her life to spare her the sorrow but this is unconfirmed.
If you watch her ‘genius’ interview about runaway she explains her music can be symbolic of different things to different people.
While we would all like to know Aurora’s views on the song, to her music is an art that is and should be up to individual interpretations.
In my opinion I take it as a man that truly loves a girl that he has been abusing. In a fit of rage he takes her life to end her suffering of the mental and physical abuse he’s inflicted upon her. After she is gone he realizes he is now just as alone as he had made her feel.

Here are quotes from Aurora about this song from like 4 different interviews:
"Murder Song is about something I heard on the radio but I made my own version of it."
"But I have a vivid imagination and often come up with fictional characters who can be found in different songs, like the couple from Murder Song. It's nice to play with this fusion of reality and fiction."
"Oh yes ! I have many sad songs, that’s why they said to me 'try to write with other people to have happy songs.'
Murder Song which I wrote myself, is a very sad, a bloody one. I’m very morbid. I’m fascinated by death and murder.
I just think it’s fascinating how people can be the same people, how you and I need oxygen, can have children, need to be embraced, we need food, water, that we smile at us … we need the same things because we are people. And it’s just fascinating that some people can have in them the desire to kill while some people cannot pick a flower without feeling bad.
That’s about this I wrote Murder Song. How can a man kill someone he loves and it happens often in the world. But he doesn’t really understand what he did, it’s a very complicated story. Her, she didn’t want to be in this world anymore, and she knew that this man would do anything for her. She asks him to kill her and he said : “Ok, I love you, I would do anything for you." After he killed her, he became sad because she didn’t move anymore and he didn’t understand where she went. He didn’t understand why she left and he start crying. And it is sad, because for the rest of his life, he will not understand and he will be sad."

She seems to have two different interpretations in mind, from these quotes. One is mercy killing, profoundly tragic, but in some sense understandable. The other is that he murders her from some incomprehensible pathos. You can hear the desperation after he realizes what he's done, since he really loves her. When listened to from this perspective, the victim's excuses for her killer brings on a whole new level of tragedy. She really loves him, yet his insanity destroys her. He absolutely does not deserve her forgiveness, yet she forgives. Is this Aurora's road to peace after several tragic events in her own life?
