@@malibuconv1968 I fell asleep with the TV on TCM and woke up real early and this was on. I found it kind of interesting even though I was half asleep so I searched for it here and watched it again.
This was a really interesting look at manufacturing with the machining etc... My mother always had Tupperware in the late 60's and early 70's, and I still do. Thanks for sharing it.
The segment of the key punch operator (20:19) brings back a lot of memories for me. My Mom was a key-punch operator before she became head of the data processing department for a savings and loan in the early 70's.
I finally swiped my mother's grey pudding cups she'd serve us jello, ice cream, pudding and fruit salads in. Tupperware was a household staple back in the day 😊
Earl Tupper was a cousin of mine, three times removed. Grandparent's always thought him to be God man. Never met him myself, but appreciate his ingenuity, but wish I could say he was a good man. But someone who give up their citizenship to save taxes makes my skin crawl.
yes I remember the fact that some said that they were manufactured in France made them very special compared to made in Japan back then funny how everything has shifted so much !
i wish so badly for a movie about a housewife or a couple housewives getting into tupperware selling and going to the jubilee, it could be quite a trip!
i have a nephew who is working his way up the company ladder in the vacuum cleaner business vacuum cleaners can you believe it like the siding salesman or the window salesmen inside the local hardware store with his podium begging to sell you windows for the mobile home you rent ha ha
NOW I KNOW WHY THOSE DAMN PLASTIC THINGS COST SO MUCH AND MOTHERS DIDN'T WANT TO LOSE ANY OF THEM. VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PRODUCTION AND MOLDING BUSINESS SO ITS INCREDIBLE THE METHOD OF DRESS FOR A MANUFACTURING ENVIRONMENT. THEY WERE INVENTING AN INDUSTRY ! 💪 USA
Those Jubilee scenes were a bit cringey! That lounge singer guy (I did not recognize him) getting kissed by all the ladies - ick! And Anita Bryant may have been a little tipsy.
Just saw this on TCM. Did anyone else notice that they had women doing all the operations? Yeah, that NEVER happened at that time. At least nit since WWII when the U S government provided childcare at little to no cost to get women to help with the war effort (i.e. when it benefitted them)
Tupperware always provided very good opportunities to women, especially on different (second) shift jobs. They also had a very generous annual holiday party, and besides many moms working second shift, there were many part time evening that provided opportunites for many to work an additional job. A remarkable company, and I know many that worked there around this time.
worked in a plastic factory when young man made plastic wrap called blown film and sandwich wedge shaped containers in thermo forming dept once learned the work the job sucked repetitive, boring work, lasted about 3 months at the most hyated it

Things that were not known or expected at the time, and this plasticware is not meant to be disposable. We still use Tupperware that’s been in the family 50+ years. It’s not throw-away. Also everything wasn’t wrapped and sealed in plastic until the 1980s after Tylenol poisonings, 1983. Shelf goods sold unsealed, paper packaging mostly. So you can leave “boomers” out of this criticism and go after the later, much more consumerist, disposable society generations.
Just saw this on TCM. It was like time traveling going to another planet. Tupperware is still in business and is now a worldwide corporation.
2 years later and I'm watching it on TCM right now...
Saw it on TCM tonight (Thanksgiving 2023). Thought I’d find an upload and was glad to find it here as expected.

And now they filed for bankruptcy last month

Thanks for this history.
Tupperware parties were big in the '60s and early '70s.
They were fun.
I finally swiped my mother's grey pudding cups she'd serve us jello, ice cream, pudding and fruit salads in. Tupperware was a household staple back in the day 😊
"Through a myriad of pipes, swiftly & out of sight..." Truer words were never spoken
Just read where Tupperware is closing its last manufacturing plant in South Carolina and outsourcing jobs to Mexico.
This is on TCM right now. I was guessing early 1960's and wanted to check 😁
1964
This was really fun.
My god they actually had a Tupperware song. And a fricken sales person "graduation" ceremony at their "Jubilee." Mind-blowing. Pretty culty.
Reminded me of AA somehow, and sober dances. Except with drunk capitalists.
Yep, they did the same in Amway.
Ex y
Mary Kay, Optavia, Longaberger, other person- to-person or network sales programs do some form of this. It’s rather typical still today.
TupperWare. Prolly the best we ever had growing up
Plastic injection mold making before the days CNC. That was the world where I grew up, and served my apprenticeship.
Earl Tupper was a cousin of mine, three times removed. Grandparent's always thought him to be God man. Never met him myself, but appreciate his ingenuity, but wish I could say he was a good man. But someone who give up their citizenship to save taxes makes my skin crawl.
That wasn't the least of it. The way he treated Brownie Wise on her way out was enough to lower my opinion of him several notches.
interesting to see how many overseas factories are still open in 2021 and still in us also
27:50 As Rifftrax pointed out, there is a surprisingly bad word at the end of this film.
Ou peut-on revoir ce magnifique reportage de Tupperware en Français. 👍💟
yes I remember the fact that some said that they were manufactured in France made them very special compared to made in Japan back then funny how everything has shifted so much !
Was this the training videos used by the sellers? My aunt sold it for years. She lost quite a bit of money doing it.
i wish so badly for a movie about a housewife or a couple housewives getting into tupperware selling and going to the jubilee, it could be quite a trip!
My mother in law has an original collection of Tupperware. I guess my wife will inherit it, lol.
Original Tupperware is great. I have many of the pieces my mother bought, when I was a kid. I use something of it, each day.
LEAST WE FORGET...
"FULLER BRUSH MAN"
AND,
"AVON CALLING" !

@ 23:50 .. who is that singing?
Anita Bryant 1964
This features Anita Bryant at the 1964 Jubilee
I didn't remember Anita Bryant as this much of a swinger ?
SO envious of that lady who won a '64 Mustang.
@@flipflopsguy8868 She never looked better with a fruit pie in her face.

Is it necessary to shout? Turn off your damn caps lock.
A lot of those workers would have gone home each night with very tired arms and legs 😯
Nothing wrong with working for a living.
Those Jubilee scenes were a bit cringey! That lounge singer guy (I did not recognize him) getting kissed by all the ladies - ick! And Anita Bryant may have been a little tipsy.
Cool
and now it's on life support.

This is all actual factory footage from 1965. Lots of women on assembly lines.

Smithfield Rhode Island is the home of Bryant University and I don't mean Kobe! Or Paul!
YES! The land was donated by Earl S Tupper, and their mascot is named Tupper
1965
I like the whole how they built a utopia society of capitalism, teamwork, cultism, salesmanship, parties. Good times.
April 2023, and Tupperware is on the verge of collapse.
😮👀
worked in a plastic factory when young man made plastic wrap called blown film and sandwich wedge shaped containers in thermo forming dept once learned the work the job sucked repetitive, boring work, lasted about 3 months at the most hyated it
There had to be injuries from this repetitive work.
So this is why tupperwear is so exoensive
It can last a lifetime, if taken care of. Well worth the money. I still have many of the items my mother bought, in the 60's.
😳😴
Johnny Desmond was cringe worthy...Jesus Christ.
Giga-cringe, eight there. I think my skin crawled away.
