    My whole office is based on Core I7 Chromeboxes and Google Workspace. ASUS 27 inch monitors and Logitech keyboards and mouse. No MS allowed here! I have a Pixelbook and a Pixel Slate for out of the office work.

    I picked up an Acer Chromebox CXI3 with 8gb of ram for $90 and absolutely love it, and it still has over 2 years of support left. I'll happily do the same with this in 2 years! Great design Asus!

    Been using Chromeboxes for years. We use them in every room that has a TV, with cheap Logitech wireless keyboards. So much better to view the internet on giant screens.

    I have an interesting use for a Chromebox that works especially well. I use it instead of cable TV. In other words, it's the OS for my 4K TV. The TV is a little old, so the original Sony OS is inadequate, and I used an nVidia Shield for a couple of years and liked it, but the big glaring disappointment is the Android OS which won't do real multitasking., multiple windows. But the Chromebox does! AND it will run Android apps. What could be better? Well, one thing. A Chromebox can't be set to think it's a tablet. That would eliminate the need for a keyboard, but I have the Logitech K830 which works great after you learn the Chromebook-specific top-row functions. It's the best TV OS!!

    I like that with a chromebox you can control the monitor brightness without having to use buttons on the monitor itself. If you need a chrome os device for a home office its a bit odd to have a permanently docked laptop! Not very practical. If you to and fro from a work place then thats a different requirement and obviously a powerful chromebook can be taken with you when away from home and then plugged into a monitor when you return. But the price has to be right. Its a shame theyre so expensive. I think OEM's are missing out on a huge share of the market. Windows mini pc's are hugely popular right now. But we need media channels like Chrome Unboxed to big up these small devices to drive the prices...down!!!

      @leonidas14775 Рік тому

      True, the specs on this thing for the price is nothing to jump at. One can use Brunch to install full ChromeOS (not Flex) on most cheap PCs with android app support.

    2.5gbps lan connection is pretty sweet if your infrastructure is setup to utilize it.
    It's been a long while since I even bothered to glance at a Chromebox.

    I would upgrade the SSD and install the mr.chromebox bios. Then using some guides online can dual boot ChromeOS and Windows on it.

    These boxes are very pricey.. The 516GE Chromebook 256GB is $550 on amz, this box with the i5 and just 128GB is $20 more, for just a simple box. Unless you need multi-monitor support, the 516GE seems to be a better value.

    A serious discussions has to be talked about this. It's a shame that ASUS, Lenovo, Samsung, Google, and LG don't take this side of Arm seriously. They made apple who they are today, and what I mean by that is the lack of ingenuity and the persistence of them using x86 processors for a software that is written 99.9% for arm silicon we won't ever accomplish anything building this in this direction. This is no more than a developers kit, only.

    • @TomUK7
      @TomUK7 Рік тому +3

      Yes. I made a comment about a docked Chromebook not being able to control the brightness of the monitor. However, arm based Chromebooks are the exception as android apps run so well. Playstore apps like blue light filter which are designed to control your phone will also work on a monitor connected to an arm based chromebook. It's small things like this that make a big difference when sat in front of a computer. I wish chrome unboxed pushes the envelope a bit more with their articles and videos. These things are useful to know!!!

    • @27baltimore
      @27baltimore Рік тому +2

      @@TomUK7 Yes, I think that if we go into this direction of using Arm silicon we will eventually get to the power that this side of Arm needs to be able to accomplish. Because if we never go in that direction, we can't expect any improvement in that direction.

    Although the wireless charging isn't entirely necessary, at those spec price points past the Celeron you're not really paying a ton extra for it.

      @@brett7011 this just recently piqued my interest as I've been wanting to go small form factor and my HP 14a with the Crostini Linux VM has been serving me really well. I can practice coding with VS Code and produce music using Ardour, and everything else for my use cases are pretty much covered with Chrome OS. Wish they had caught on. Prices are still the same on Asus website and it doesn't seem like there were any other variations added.

    Now I have an HP Chromebox and love it, since Ive had it for several years it won't update past Update 76. So now on some site the notification pops up saying the browser is no longer supported. Do you know how to install another browser on a chromebox like brave or edge using the Crosh terminal? Ive tried every command I can think of but nothing is working, Ive never used the Crosh Terminal before.

    I want to thank you for directing me to NordVPN. I'm on my second year of this product. It has kept me safe, and together with the virus protection software I feel all my devices are quite protected. I was interested in the Acer GE 516 but I have decided on the 2020 MacBook Air with the M1 Chip. I think I'm going to have fun with this item. I'd rather have this than a Windows product. I really like the Asus C5601 Chromebook. I don't do a lot of labor intensive things. I love the screen for viewing my streaming platforms. I like the portability of the MacBook Air. The Asus is my last Chromebook for awhile. Thank you for your reviews. I really enjoy your tips and information. I got the Asus for $150 less than the original price and so I feel like I got quite the bargain. Take care and stay safe!

Which in the long run is generally expensive. ipads, iwatches, macbooks, iphones, earpods, imacs etc...Also mac os is a fully fledged desktop. Complexity suits some peoples work flow but not everyones. Why use mac os when you just need a word processor, calendar and photos gallery?
