I was a medical courier for a year and a half after 134,000 miles on my 2 year old Camry, your not accounting in social security, retirement, depreciation, wear&tear/ repairs/upkeep & insurance, taxes etc unfortunately after accounting all of these expenses these jobs kinda suck! They need to pay more or supply vehicles.. everyone do their own thing but only buy throw away cars. My opinion with the facts I have been through
A monthly break down would be good. I do this part time at night and weekends. I enjoy doing it.

I made 58k last year I had a hybrid $270-450 Gas a month. Car note and insurance I was going to pay anyway since I use my personal vehicle not all couriers do, But I don't count it in expenses unless it's tax time because it technically is a work expense. I do however include oil changes and car upkeep in expenses. Altogether I took home about 50k after-tax write-offs. I think gas sufficiency matters and getting 1 or 2 permanent routes that pay very well with stats inbetween easy money. 45 hours a week 3 weeks I take off a year and still did well. Wait times I'm Netflix and chilling in between, 2 hours of wait time average a day for me usually. 50K net take home is i think equivalent to about 70K a year gross, it's a business so you have to weight things out to net the right profit. the downside in my opinion is needing another car every 6 years so only buy used cars with a known history of making it to 300k miles +
u think a ford Econoline 150 would be a decent vehicle? with about 150k miles>

I did this for 15 years. It’s a double edged sword.. the more you work the more your expenses. All the extra work is a wash at that point. I was making around 8,400 a month.. but my expenses were over 2000$ a month.. so i was making way less than what my pay says. And I was working like a doggg. 6 days a week 12-15 hours a day 400-500 miles driving everyday for 15 years.. had to threaten to quit to get days off for the birth of my child.. this work should be illegal. No one should be threatened with their job for needing personal time.quitting was the best decision I ever made. I make close to as much money I use to, work way way less, I have benefits, vacation, sick days. As I stated. Contract courier work should be illegal. No if ands or buts about it.. it truly takes advantage of people and their vehicles.
I don’t know if you still do this type of work, but it may be helpful if you could do a “day in the life” type video. Just showed a few minutes of some of the highlights of your typical work day.
You look on how many hours you work, and how much depreciation of you car, you are putting aside. Knowing these, will give you a better gauge on how much you are really making. Thank you for the video, it was really well made👍👍👍

I wouldn't think so much about the depreciation of the vehicle, rather the deterioration of the vehicle. With fundamental maintenance, a vehicle can last 300,000 miles or more.
@@SaturnVII but if your driving 100,000 miles a year you’re lucky to get 3 years out of the 30,000-40,000$ vehicle and it’s completely worthless after 6 months of driving 400-500 miles everyday. Guaranteed the windshield bumpers and hood are beat to hell. I actually use to do this for a living and I’d have a 2 year old car with 190,000 miles cracked windshield paint pealing off in the hood and bumper. That’s almost depressing in itself having a worthless new car your paying 400$ a month for

Thanks for sharing your work. I am a newbie to your channel. I am not at all hearing you account for wear and tear on the car?. I drive my cars and trucks well past the 200K mark and know what the expenses look like when you get north of 120K miles so the older your car gets the lower your profits get. You have to account for this NOW, so that you dont get stuck with decreased income surprising you. It seems to me the smart play here is to find a one owner ugly vehicle with a dent or two and less than 60 K miles on it, drive the piss out of it to 120 and then dump it before it costs you big. Some cars will not even carry you to 120k without costing you. I did not notice what vehicle you have and there are so few now that you can rock solid rely upon. you need more than a book keeper: you need tax and financial advice and being a family man you MUST make sure when your taxes are filed that you have at least enough income showing that you pay social security EVERY quarter. This is important to you as a dad cause it is a very cheap form of life insurance for you: if you should pass before your kids turn 18 they will receive survivor benefits IF you have paid in. And, god forbid, if you should become disabled, your paying in to social security regularly will get you a disability payment if you get hurt permanently. Best of luck in your work

Considering getting into courier work, but I've never worked for myself and don't know how paying taxes work? What do you estimate you'll pay in taxes per year?
In this field of work you can go the standardized route in which you will credit for the miles your travel for business or you can itemize your business expenses. In my upcoming videos I cover apps that I use to track expenses.
I would think you should be sharing estimated taxes as well.
I'd like to do the same thing, but with living here in Arkansas. There's not enough opportunities for that field ; that I know of.

All this sounds very interesting! Im a retired Seniour, male, in a small town. The questions i would like answered are, 1. as drivers can we call the shots on days and hrs worked? On the railroad, you worked through a dispatcher, if you dident want to work a certain day, you just let him know ahead of time. Your just out any money you could have made! Id like to take the long runs, 4 or5oo miles or more. city to city. do they have that?do they reimberce you for a food allowance, or Motell bills? or is that all your operating costs? please inform me. thank you!

So some thing I would say is that calculating your car and insurance payments as part of the expenses wouldn’t apply for many people I would think. because you’re going to have a car and insurance anyway depending on where you live in the country. So it’s not like you’re using it only for your company. Unless I misunderstanding the breakdown
You totally correct, however in my case I purchased the vehicle just for courier work so that's why I factored it in.
If you are driving full time 12-15 hours a day driving 300-400-500 miles a day.. you are going to have a separate vehicle strictly for your business. So now you will have 2 car payment and insurance.
On a salary of 45k a year working all those hours.. this job is a scam

To be honest it depends on the loads your bringing and the company your working with. It it was like a 3rd party final mile provider then yes but if they deal in organs and computer parts maybe not factoring cost of gas and maintenance.

Was looking into this but after what you showed me may have to pass I take home $3800 from my warehouse job and another $1100 a month from my Door Dash, and grubhub ,point pick up ,uber eats.

You cannot include your insurance as your expenses because whether you drove or not you still need to pay insurance that’s a sunk cost.
The vehicle I am using is solely used for business being that it is a business expense I can claim it if I wanted to itemize it. However since I accumulated so many miles I will do the standard mileage rate.

I drove a dodge journey. It was a V6 so my fuel was good on the highway and I pick it because it was large enough for what I was doing at the that which was hospital runs that needed coolers and boxes to be delivered. As far as vehicle choice it is a hard question because you would have to see what work your local area needs.

I know you added your car payment into expenses of your business. But your car payment would be owed even if you worked 9 to 5 in an office or warehouse. So imo you would need a car regardless.

For me I get it through a combination long distance jobs and local hospital routes. I’m just scraping the possibilities as a IC, but once I understand it better and build a relationship with the brokers I will try to me a master courier where I can have couriers under me. That’s the present plan at the moment.

Can you check your specific states unfortunately I don’t know that however 1099 is considered self-employed so I don’t see why that service wouldn’t be there. If you go on with the company I don’t think you need to have a business license however I will be processing my LLC soon because I have other plans to grow.

Hello I understand your frustration but every state is different with these apps but there are a few nation ones but for more bigger vehicles. Try Dispatch, Frayt Driver, US Pack and Roadie.
If you want to do medical courier you would need to get local courier companies in your area.

I make 57,000 a year at my current job. I've been doing it for years and I'm burned out. (I'm an auto accident claims adjuster) and as many may know it sucks. too much stress, over 100 claims a month and everyone and their momma thinking I have 48 hands to handle their freaking claims at the same time as if I'm supersonic or Spiderman. So, before I get a heart attack I need to stop working for this insurance companies. I've been thinking about something like this. I do uber eats on the side like once a week, I was a fedex driver during the Pandemia shut down time when I lost my job for about a year so I have experience being out there. The only thing is that I can't make less than the little that I already make due to the fact that I'm the main head of the household aside from my wife that makes 45k. So I have to make at least the 57k a year working 40 hours a week, 5 days a week which is what I work. Monday Thru Friday. is there a possibility that it can actually be 5k a month. I don't count the insurance or vehicle because I already pay insurance for the car so I don't see why you are deducting that and my car is small so I wouldn't spend too much in gas. What are the chances of having 5k a month for me after expenses guarantee.
It can definitely had if the price of the cost per mile is high enough.

I’m with some local ones I really don’t know if any National ones outside of final mile companies. You would need to seek out your local ones. Every place is different

Hello Matthew that’s sounds good is it 55% of everything you do? Local and long runs? I think you should know the cost of the jobs so you have a greater idea on what you’ll be making by payday.

Thanks for watching I have a Dodge Journey and I usually get 26-28 MPG.

I’m particularly like I’m dodge caravan for the space and it is not as big as a sprinter van.
@@DumaLife Cool . I love that body style, ,minivans remind my old station wagons. Some people are not agree with Dodge Caravan and they argue of poor quality however I prefer to listen to you also since you have experience with Dodge. Speaking about body style, are you confirming minivan for this job? Correct me if I am wrong that Cost and Space are two major factors. What I am saying is a well balance between those as you rolled out Sprinter.
I will be considering a caravan Because it has the same engine as my journey and all the seats can lay flat so much for a cargo van. I can put a lot of things in my current vehicle and I believe that does dictate certain jobs that I do get because of the size of it getting a caravan with only higher the percentages of getting longer jobs which equate to bigger payouts. In the medical career field from what I see unless you are moving a lot of organs and tissue jobs a sprinter van might be too big for the job because of the gas/fuel you will be consuming.
