Bear trap and lightning buckle. My grandpa ran cattle in the kaibab and Escalante staircase of southern Utah. Not sure if he was single or double rigged. My dad had never seen a snaffle bit till he was 15 years old. At the race track.

I had one of those as a kid and it was good for riding a bucking horse as long as you stayed tight but if you got loose those knobby swells just added to the beating you got!😂

I love the looks of this saddle, SO MUCH.. That deep seat and rounded short skirt is awesome. I ride trails.. lots of long long trails with a Gaited Horse.. I know this is a working saddle, but it sure looks trail worthy! sure!🐎

@@ellistonequinesolutions3795Thats all I use are deep seated, round skirted saddles. But I despise a bear trap because it pokes me in the thigh lol. I much prefer bucking rolls.

Its a common Misconception, that the Californios or Buckaroos, always rode a Slick fork. There are plenty of photos of them riding Swell forks and as a kid, i saw a lot of my relatives riding swell forks. One thing you rarely saw was a trail cinch though. At one time, my Great Grandfather, even rode a Hamley Beartrap.

Hmmm my old Newberry has more swells than that. Still not a bear trap saddle.
