- Cometh the hour, cometh the videogame "journalists" ready to attack gamers at any opportunity. And in this case, it was Kotaku's hilarious attempts to debunk the Sweet Baby Inc narrative.

Fun fact: The author of that Kotaku article recently claimed on their twitter that you can't be racist against white people, really explains why she's defending SBI's CEO.
Fun fact: you can't be racist to furries.
The second she says that literally any and all legitimacy of the article goes up in smoke.
100$ says SBI's founder has an adopted "trans baby" in 5~ years.
"you can't be racist against white people"
That's Critical Race Theory; it claims that it's not possible to be racist against white people but they also claim "to be white is to be racist"; they claim all white people are racist, without exception.
If you're thinking this is a racist statement then you are being far too sensible and need to get reprogramming.
We're doomed as a species
Customers: "Here's a list of places that use excrement in their food, so you can best avoid them".
Kotaku: "This is incorrect, did you know that excrement isn't the only thing that can make food taste bad? Don't be a simpleton, you hatemonger. Women and minorities like this food, let them have it!"
Customers: "I didn't ask about those other things and other people can eat whatever they want, I just don't want shit on my plate".
Great analogy
"I was booted from the Discord because I identified myself as a Kotaku journalist." Based.
As a game journalist I engaged with a gaming community for the first time...
Really uncool for the Discord to not be inclusive of mental illness like that.
I'm shocked. This is my shocked face. 😐
So a "picky baby" won’t accept her ideology but a "sweet baby" complies and accepts it? Creepy and condescending at the same time.
And to think Alec Holowka's, who unalived himself after being witch hunted for things he didn't do because of Zoe Quinn, sister took money from his company after he died to help fund this. These people are evil and vile.
She sees the world as just babies and the only difference is whether you're sweet and compliant, or "picky" and actually rebellious against this shit.
Plus the fact she's admitting that a "picky baby" won't consume her poison, but a "sweet baby" will drink it and die.
@@Silenthero66 She's a total narcissist, they all are. I'd rather support the single dev who made Lethal Company than any AAA studio these days.

They deserve Nobel award for their publication, forget about investigative journalist and warzone reporter. Their mental suffering on twitter is life changing horror
I read that as political activist hoes!😂
I love that Kotaku kinda figures the only audience they have are people composed 93% of soy, so they talk about some normal discord group as if they are a war reporter broadcasting from enemy territory, sharing their barbaric ways. "They share pictures of... **gasp** idealized women!"
“And worst of all, they like it. “
It's crazy how few men are working in gaming "journalism", and how little these female "experts" seem to know or care about gaming

The group was at ~5000 before all this nonsense. It's over 200000 now.
If Steam were to ban it at this point, you'd just see 50 more curator lists targeting these companies pop up. Let's hope gamers can do what movie fans couldn't and root this sickness out by depriving it of funds.
I'm doing my part!
It's the Streisand Effect demonstrated perfectly.
@@Bonesawisready926Yeah, that's why I don't think Steam is going to do anything. The group isn't actually going against ToS, and Steam knows if they jump on this bandwagon, it'll be beyond their ability to handle in 24 hours.

Kotaku is a perfect example of EVERYTHING that's wrong with western journalism. If anyone this that Kotaku is a legitimate news site or does any journalism, you're delusional.
I used to enjoy reading Kotaku .... It must've been about 15 years ago by now lol. @@KingofAwesomness14
Not quite, its missing a fairly important event for context.
Monty Oum, the guy who created Rooster Teeth and the guy who created things like Red Vs Blue, died from an allergic reaction.
The day he died, the vultures at his studio snatched the company from his wife, who was the other driving creative force in making the shows and drove her out, even stealing her personal effects like her laptop.
The people who snatched his legacy away did not have a fraction of his or his wife's talent, and were far more interested in pushing a woke agenda instead of telling his stories.
After this yeah, the first guy is pretty correct, they began driving away their fans by being condescending assholes.

Imagine insinuating that quotes from Marcus Aurelius - possibly the most important and influential stoic in history - are a red flag and indicative of _toxicity_ 🤦🏻♂️
F*cking hell.
Stoics believe that actions speak louder than words. What could be more toxic to these people than the idea that you're judging them by their actions, rather than their carefully redefined words?
How is this cancer on gaming called Kotaku still around?
ESG money. Private equity firm owns them; Great Hill Partners, it's like BlackRock Lite. They have 4 billion instead of 4 trillion, but essentially the same stuff. "ESG is a key aspect of our investment philosophy" - from their site.
And I'm not sure they're going to be around much longer. They lost 2 editors in chief inside a year, laid off some staff, and closed down a couple of the local sites .UK and something else.. and the equity firm has been selling off other related assets.
I think the more interesting observation is that of all the websites born of gamergate, Kotaku is the only one left to fight 2.0...
Because the globalists are willing to lose money on things if it pushes "THE MESSAGE".
Man, UA-cam keeps deleting my comment. Looks like any mention of a certain investment strategy employed by some large socially conscious equity funds merits an automatic deletion.
Just stating facts, quoting MSNBC news, the companies' websites.. not breaking any UA-cam rules. If I just enter the letter E followed immediately by S, and then a G, then BOOM! the comment vanishes, within seconds.

Marcus Aurelius quotes was the most shocking revelation. 🙃
I'm surprised they're against him. Comparatively speaking Marcus Aurelius was one of the most liberal people to ever exist (being a liberal-minded thinker in Ancient Rome, one of the most deeply conservative/hierarchical/patriarchal societies to ever exist? Is a miracle in of itself that the leader for a time was somehow a liberal). I guess all they see is "male patriarch" as opposed to actually examining his ideals.

The CEO's extreme language on why SBI is needed in that 2019 speech matches how aggressively identity politics and social issues are being pushed in games, so SBI does do exactly what people think it does. Game companies do sign off on it but they're not getting both sides. Maybe I should start are consulting firm that goes around 'terrifying' game companies with what will happen if they ignore core audiences and downgrade traditional legacy characters with frumpy models.
The mistake we make is accepting the battlefield these disingenuous activists have set. They should be utterly ignored, their trash products should be utterly ignored, their trash ideas should be utterly ignored and not debated any further and we should support good stuff such as Godzilla Minus One, Helldivers 2 etc.
I really hope Japan and the indie space have the foresight to see that a loyal customer base will produce more money in the long run than ESG. Because eventually Blackrock and Vanguard are gonna wise up and see that the ideology they push has become more hated because of their initiatives.
actually that was the mistake of gamergate 1.0, just assuming if we gamers ignored it it would go away. Instead that left a vacuum where only the morons were talking about it and a lot of people assumed that means they must have a point
Stupidity requires silence to propagate, but cannot survive in the same space as truth for long.
Vote with wallet, simple as that. Most companies were only accepting radical liberal ideology due to the juicy hand-outs and incentives from financial organisations. They took their customers for granted and didn't expect their primary income streams to dry up. Short of a few true believers they've never been sincere, it was always about profit, now they're taking a step back and reverting to how things used to be.
@@RJALEXANDER777 Vote with your wallet and make it permanent. Customers need to send the message that if you side with DEI and ESG, than you better hope those funds never go away because you'll never get my money again. Belair would have to personally bl()w me to ever get me to even consider buying an SBI affiliated game.
The biggest mistake with gamergate was that gamers thought eventually the media would take their side when they exposed how deeply corrupt the indie dev/journalism scene was, instead of doubling down and rewriting the whole narrative. The only thing you can do is vote with your wallet, it's the only way to make people pay attention. We will never have the media on our side, since they created the problem.
Yep, attacking consumers for not wanting your product. That'll work never.

'Worship of the Ugly' is a core tenet among the "woke". Art that exalts or inspires is verboten.
I am not a conspiracy theorist, nor a fundamentalist but the worship of ugliness and outright evil from the woke honestly feels demonic to me.
Like there are a lot of woke things that I can say "ah, this is misguided but they just want to help people" but the hatred of beauty and virtue... It's fucking weird.
they invoke gamergate, but one of the founders of sweet baby is literally the sister of the guy directly involved in the reasons for gamergate
And the SBI employee who told Twitter to mass flag that Steam account was involved with Sarkeesian's DDOS attack on that charity thing back then. Both publicly bragged then denied involvement. Grayson (one of Quinn's journalist 'mates') posted defending SBI. That mob are up to their necks in this. They hope for the same results they got out of Gamergate but we all know the truth now as well as that they're directly responsible for the downfall of gaming and US entertainment. It won't work a 2nd time.
SBI is getting exposed for what they have done, but the companies are just as responsible for hiring them in the first place. I've been playing a lot of older games and I'm more fulfiled.
Older games and indie games is where I'm staying at this point. Western AAA gaming is beyond redemption at this point.
i actually think nobody's talking enough about the biggest problem people like SBI create : When their shit writing causes a game to fail, they're not the ones who pay the ultimate price. They move on like a locust swarm to the next project, while the programmers and artists at the studio left holding the bag are the ones who get fired an often leave the gaming industry for good, leaving it even further devoid of actually creative people
The workers Gamers should, and largely do, support pay the price for what the idiot activists destroy. This leaves the game industry as a whole in a much worse place because of their arrogance.
Yup the way to pushback is not to buy their crappy new games. Lots of old good stuff out and about to play. Hit the major studios where they hurt- their bottom line sales.
As I understand it, SBI somehow has very close connections with money-lenders. The money-lenders get a request for funding from a game-studio and then asks SBI to "investigate" that studio on their DIE score. Nautrally (duh!), SBI finds that the studio doesn't comply (enough) with DIE and "advice" the studio that SBI needs to consult them on their game. So the "investigator" SBI, "advises" to hire them to rewrite the game and probably tells the studio that they'd better keep SBI on as consultants, else future funding "might" be really problematic. This sounds like a legalised form of extortion to me (personal opinion).
Same. I went back through Fire Emblem: Awakening recently and had a blast. And the female characters are better written and designed to be more attractive, to boot lol.
This is how much better it was just 10 years ago.
I've been saying it for years now that these people are like the fox in Aesop's tale. It lost its tail to a snare and because it didn't want to feel inferior, it tried to convince all other foxes to cut off their tails too.
Aesop's fables are not just fantasy stories, they're educational works. This is indeed a very real tendency in human nature, which is why Aesop wrote a fable for it.
I love how that kotaku journalist said she 'infiltrated' the group. By that she means she joined the group...
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

Ah yes. A Marcus Aurelius quote. Classic
The best part was Mercante trying to blame the whole thing on Kiwifarms, when it started due to SBI employees and legobutts doing a Streisand Effect from their efforts to get the thread banned, to the point where it got picked up by UA-camrs like Asmongold.
If they had just stayed off their keyboards the whole thing would have blown over, but these people are drama and dopamine addicts who can't help themselves.
“I would have got away with it too if it wasn’t for those damn internet archivists!”
Classic.
I'm disappointed that Drinker et al didn't mention the Kiwifarms angle. I wonder if it's because two members of the panel have threads on there... 🤔
Kiwifarms was mentioned because Kotaku loathes it exposed Quinn and Sarkeesian as lying toads who weren't 'harrassed out of our homes' during Gamergate. An SBI employee was involved in the DDOS attack with Sarkeesian back then, first bragging then denying involvement. The same employee who called for a mass flag of the Steam account. One of the '5 guys' (Quinn) just wrote a post defending SBI. Seems it's the same incestuous mob from back then. They were successful in infiltrating gaming with the help of their media mates but every change they claim was necessary resulted in losses companies can no longer ignore.
@@tkps I'm talking about the video, not the article. Hell, it was Jersh who brought it to my attention originally.
That's an interesting point to make when it comes to beauty standards in games. If the setting is gritty, brutal, and/or leaning more towards realism, then sure. Include people who aren't swimsuit models and look like they've been through hell. But if you're in a fantasy setting where things lean towards the more fantastical, then you can be more lax on your standards of "beauty", because it's a fantasy setting.
... Or you could just let the devs create the characters they want, and try not to put yourself in a character that's meant to be a character and not you. For instance, I'm a black, overweight introvert, but I think Dante from the Devil May Cry series (a handsome, fit, white male) is a pretty cool badass, and I don't want to see him changed unless the story logically calls for it.
There's a bigger issue with "ugly" female characters as well. Those are *not* natural, healthy bodies or faces that are being placed on female characters in particular. No woman is actually as ugly as the women in games - they have swung to the opposite extreme of "idealized female bodies."
I'm an unattractive male Resident Evil fan in my 30s with a whiskey gut. The last thing I want my Resident Evil heroes to look like is me. I want the guys to look like jacked body builders and super models like Leon Kenny and Chris Redfield. I want the girls to look like pretty super models and athletes like Claire Redfield and Jill Valentine. Even the "everyman/woman" protagonists like Ethan and Mia Winters, who look a little less idealised, a little more "mid" and, well, _real,_ still don't look ugly as sin, and I don't want them to.
This idea that we uglies are being left out and "marginalised" by not having any ugly protagonists in videogames to "project ourselves" onto is a farcical Iie.
And what's with that whole "project ourselves" garbage, anyway? I don't play Resident Evil to pretend Chris Redfield is _me,_ I play Resident Evil to pretend _I'm_ Chris Redfield. Why would I want to see _myself_ in Resident Evil? 🧐
@@JadeRunner Agreed. Let's save the "projecting ourselves" onto characters for games with a character creator option.
This episode was just a buffet of distinguished accents
This problem goes back farther than the gaming industry and is really a form of coping by people who weren't popular in high school. A now old TV trope is that jocks and attractive people are always stupid and the artsy and emo are actually the smartest. In reality there is a POSITIVE correlation between intelligence, physical ability, and physical attractiveness. It's not absolute but it's stronger than the correlation between creativity and intelligence.
Kotaku is operated on ESG money.
Once the activists have EXACTLY what they want in games, they will then cry that not enough people bought it and loved it.
As we are currently seeing in movies with The Marvels and Madame Web.

The comments on that article are wild "If Sweet Baby Inc are helping to remove racism, sexism and bigotry from videogames, then I'm all for it!"
"Like Howard Stern said: I'd rather be Woke than asleep!"
"I'm sick of the way the word 'Woke' has been misappropriated by people who live in echo chambers..."
The lack of awareness is astounding. 😅
The fact that they always choose to create controversy rather than creating a more subtle and elegant way to increase diversity shows that there is something else going on here. In God of War: Ragnarök they made Angerboda (a character from norse mythology) black despite it being completely wrong from a narrative/historical point of view. They COULD have introduced a character from some african mytholgy which would have worked since there is a whole thing in these new games about Tyr (and other characters) traveling between realms but they deliberately didn't do that. In Alan Wake 2 they very deliberately made Saga Andersson (a scandinavian/finnish character) black despite her being shown to be a blonde caucasian woman in the previous game. Since Alan Wake takes place in modern time there was nothing stopping them from introducing a new character that was black. It would have worked and no one would have complained but they didn't do that. In SS: KTJL they again made Deadshot black despite him being white in the previous games instead of introducing one of the many black characters that exists in the DC universe. They could have made all of this work but they choose not to do it. They want people to get mad so that they can claim it's becasue of racism and misogony. They manufacture conflict so that they can claim that they need to exist in order to fight this imaginary war.
If you want evidence of the opposite just look at the game Banishers: ghosts of New Eden. That game takes place in New England in the 1600s and the main female character is black. She is explained to have run away from her homeland of Haiti and since it works from a narrative and historical POV how many people have thrown a hissy fit over that? Exactly.
I thought they might do something clever with bIack Angrobodr by revealing at some point in the story that she is an "immigrant God" like Kratos. For instance, say her family were originally Gods from an African pantheon like the Orisha, who left Africa to live in the land of Norse gods like Kratos did. I like the idea of two or more Gods from different pantheons actually being the same individual. The Greek God of War also being Farbauti the Norse Giant is a really cool idea and I thought they might do something similar with Angrobodr.
But no. In the end her skin color is left entirely unexplained and unaddressed and other Norse Gods and Giants are shown to be all kinds of ethnicities. It was a total let down.
And the real problem for me is that we all know damn well that if the next GoW game is set in Ancient Egypt they won't dare depict an Egyptian God or Goddess as a white or Asian woman.
As you say, it's manufactured controversy. It's the same in the news; the people groups like BLM champion aren't people that are obviously in the right; it's people that earned an appointment with the cops, and then they escalated. Black man shot while trying to flee after burgling a home is a racism, while another half dozen black teens killed over the weekend in Chicago is a statistic never to be explored.
Well Saga wasn't in Alan Wake 1, but she was in a teaser in Remedy's Quantum Break and that teaser was pretty much a trailer for Alan Wake 2 and it had Max Payne I mean Alex Casey along with Saga who was white and Blonde.
And even in Alan Wake 2 Saga wasn't actually that bad there were a couple of problems with her, but I found her sections of the game pretty enjoyable, probably because SBI only changed her race and edited a couple things and called it good.

Love these guests. Thanks guys.
Without even wanting to get political ,
it's obvious that "Journalists" , at one point or another, just turned into "Journalibs" .
Urnalists seems more fitting as they piss all over the things the majority of people like. The group that SBI tried to shut down on Steam is now over 200,000 strong, with people from all over the world, from different backgrounds.
A person who makes it their job to be a video game activist like Sarkesian, will do everything in their power to make the gravy train keep going whether it makes sense or not.
We have allowed the losers who are bitter because they never got asked to go to the school dance to run society.
I wish companies would keep the culture war bs out of video games. I loved hogwarts legacy but they made a point to check all the boxes as far as THE MESSAGE goes. Still a great game but I’m sick of this being shoved down my throat then being told I’m a bigot for not enjoying it.
The left has gone way too far in telling people what to think and what to say or you will be called an ism or
Phobic. Hell if men don’t want to date a non biological female they are called t-phobic because they want to be with a biological woman. It’s out of hand and needs to stop.
To be fair, I think all the gender neutral pronouns in that game were so WB didn't have to pay the actors to read the same scripts twice. You could tell that game was made on a lower budget. I think it's a solid 7, the gameplay was really fun, but the story was very mid.
💯
Like ordering a medium rare steak and getting a chunk of charcoal and being told that is their version of medium rare.
Is that pathological desire to see oneself in fiction some extreme form of narcissism. I'm not (and never can be) a space marine or a Victorian noblewoman, so that's why I want to play as one (in a GOOD game).
Amusing how people say "gay is born that way,.. love is love.. you're attracted to who you are attracted to"
Just can't seem to work out why people dont like what they FORCE onto them and can;t accept we know what we like.
Gentlemen, remember: the Revolution never ends.
The reason it's never enough is, to quote James Lindsey, " The issue is never the issue. The issue is always revolution."
Change the way people talk, you change the way they think. If you can change the way they think then you can control them how you want. - George Carlin
And they were SO close to real journalification this time!
An excellent panel this week. 😎
the fact that these assholes dare disrespect toriyama on his unfortunate death is just infuriating and means i want nothing to do with them.
You'd think they would be more careful what they're saying right now, but their need for attention is apparently too great.
Their life is defined by destroying the work of better people.
Yeah I've played with "realism" versus fantasy in creative writing. A realistic person, as in average, is not interesting. If you're going to have an "ugly" or "plain" character they need to have something else going on for them that ties into it. As in are they disfigured?
Main characters are typically more idealistic. Not that they don't have flaws, but they are usually more attractive and above average in a lot of areas. That is what engages readers. Video games I think are even more pressing on this than movies and books, as you are staring at your characters for 40+ hours depending on game length. You should like what your character looks like if you're going to be staring at them for that long.
For instance this show. Most of the people talking are average attractiveness. They couldn't just run a streaming show where they play games and get a massive following based on their looks. They need to have something else that draws interest and eyeballs. In this case it's special takes on cultural topics and good insight.
Why do you get empowerment on one side "You are beautiful and powerful!"
and then scorn on the other "How DARE YOU prefer that image???"
Kotaku is Always on the wrong side of any argument.
I'm just really irritated they quoted Marcus Aurelius. They"re not even worthy to quote Caligula
When Chris Kindred was a child he was the type who liked to poke a beehive with a stick and became angry when the bees came after him.
synthman was right about ragnarok, mauler has to say hes sorry.
Kotaku is blacklisted by Nintendo, I hope we can all blacklist everything Sweetbaby Inc touches as well.
😂 This feels like a parody that even The Onion would have called "a bit over the top" 🤣
I’m a 55 year old Aussie construction worker and a few months ago I was riding my scooter home from site near the Melbourne convention centre (aka Jeff’s Shed) when I suddenly encountered what I can only describe as a sort of slow moving human tsunami of corpulent, pasty-faced people dressed in the worst no “F’s” given-made-it-out -of- spray-painted-silver-left over-pizza-boxes-I-picked-up-off-the-lounge room-floor Cosplay I’ve ever seen. As the waddled…errr, walked on the promenade Many where puffing on asthma inhalers, brandishing epipens or dragging small carts loaded with insulin behind them.
My God, I marvelled to myself: they’re so stupendously unnattractive people be gathered together in one place? Are they extras for a post-apocalyptic HBO spin off called “The Walking Lard?” What the hell is going on? then I finally got close enough to read the banner “Melbourne International Gamers Convention. Ahhhh…. It’s the only time they’ve left the house in the last 12 months. And they’ve lived on a diet consisting mostly of pot noodles so I guess I’ll give them their day. But if anybody in marketing to the gaming industry thinks that it’s a good idea for game characters to look like actual gamers they should see what I saw that day. It looked like prom-night for a bunch of overfed cave trolls 😂
1:51 "Misinformed"
I would translate that to "people that don't swallow bullshit"

What Mr H Reviews said around the end, about the goal posts always moving is spot on. This is a core tenet of Queer Theory, which is what a lot of progressive movements are based/founded on.
Simply put, queer theory aims to ensure that nothing and everything is normal and not normal at the same time. Because Queer Theory posits (like Marxism) is that there is two groups with special properties, the in the group and the out group. Being cis hetero is the normal, anything else is not, to a degree.
If something becomes normal, it's part of the cultural producing hegemony, and is now longer queer, and can no longer be used for the revolution. So the goal posts have to always move. Because they want to 'normalise' everything, once they've done that they move onto what ever is next.
Queer isn't a sexual identity, it's a political one. Read any Queer Theory and they'll tell you this.
Movies died, I guess it's video games turn now. This won't end.
I own all the Fable games but I won't be buying this new doppelganger.
