Appreciate the effort you put into it. Truly. People just think because a dog is “smart” in their opinion, that’s where the magic of a working dog comes into play and it all just happens and little to no training or effort is required.
You’ve just turned Maslow’s pyramid into the bite world of working dogs. Like Maslow you have made elegant dog training Perfect mate 💪 the guys who teach me are experts and you are one of the few who really know their shit. Well done.
I love that you disscuss the genetics. Esp with the working Shepherd vs the show lines. People dont offten understand the original intention of a breed. Keep it up neighbor, love from the U.S.
The best explanation of Prey Drive I have seen. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, this is my first time training a German Shepard puppy for protection, I can say there is a lot of training the handler needs first to teach the puppy properly.
I equate you to a trainer for a professional fighter. Psychology, physical work, confidence building and much more need to go into training these dogs. Impressive!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've often heard about Drives but this explains it to me. I'm a new sport dog owner and in the steep learning curve that goes with that. Your channel is excellent.
Awesome stuff ..... I can never thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and taking time to make these videos .... Love from NEPAL man ... Thankkssss ... :)
I love your graphs man! 😂. Joking aside… I love the piramid and your thorough explanation. Now it makes a lot more sense to me! I have 2 mals : one female with a high pray drive but not loud, just laser focused, good bite and very possesive. The other is a male , very strong pull, good bite but no much posession. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 👍🏼
Are you being a jackoff? Explain what do you mean by Micheal Ellis it sounds like your saying that it is a copy of Micheal Ellis work. If that is what your trying to say that would laughable! Ellis if he had 24/7 seven days a week for the rest of his life to study he could not have a understanding of the mind of the dog and how it works like haus does it is a gift he has! Anyone like you going around making statements like that could get hurt. Please be careful what you say on facebook!
I’d loved to see a video on how you build up the nerves of a dog. My mal can get pretty skittish (he doesn’t shut down completely, just looses some commitment and focus) with some things and I wanna try and bring his confidence and nerves up so I don’t put him in a state of panic. It doesn’t take much to calm him down but I’d rather not have him get in that state of mind in the first place
Thank you for this, I am failing at the "Arousal" part, I use the back tie, back my dog she doesn't show much when on it. She whimpers more than actually bark and trying to come forward. It's only been a week on the back tie, but that's where i'm currently at when it comes to that.
what tools you use to solve each of these problems?. It would be interesting a video about the defense drive. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos and share your knowledge
I know you did some selection video(s) for puppies, but what is the process like from when you first get a dog/puppy til you start training to use prey drive? Do you start with basic commands? And is it a good idea for a person to train their own dogs for personal protection work, given that the training is done properly? Thanks for the content! It really does make me realize that this subject is not so simple as it appears. As a suggestion for more content (other than the questions above), I noticed you say that some dogs go right into the "prey triangle" and some take more stimulus. Can you expound on what the dog looks like in say an everyday setting, versus a working state, and when/how a dog switches between those two states? Or does it just become a tool/command like the typical "sit" or "down" commands?
You Say it so well Some dogs have the ability to finish some don't And if you play with these you would notice on 100% some have more of the animal drive than others Some people are survivors some people are not same thing
I have a rescue German shepherd and she is a bit uncomfortable to load noises how do I work on that with her so I could build her confidence and hopefully train to bark on command
I'm glad others think like I do with animals! I have people all the time. Hey I want to pay you to train my dog. Then they get upset when you tell them they're dog will not do well in protection training. They get upset. Like you said there's usually a crack in the dog.
Are fight drive found In pit bulls and prey drive different side of the same coin? Can you have fight drive without prey drive? It seems like you can have prey drive without fight drive but it's not common to have fight drive without prey drive.
Do you have any suggestions on getting a k9 to chill out when another male dog is walking by? Not sure if this helped or not but when he was a puppy he had a male dog try to attack him in his yard, and some kids used to mess with him and get him going while in his yard, i dont mind him barking but every once in a while he just goes a lil overboard man, other than that he is a very obedient dog just seems a lil territorial obviously but id like to find a way to calm him down a bit in those situations, thanks
My dog has an extremely high prey drive for these field bunnies outside of our home and she bucks up starts barking and lounges at these damn things. I’m not sure if she would catch one tho because those things are fast as fuck and don’t want to test the theory because there is a street near by.
I'm curious to know what happens when perhaps you run into those clients who have dogs who have better than average prey drive but the owners have no intent to work on bite work or protection? In those situations it seems like you would want to deter the dog from its natural tendencies.
Their prey drive will adapt into whatever you want them to focus on, not necessarily “bite work or protection”...or one specific task associated with such. Their prey drive will convert into ability to want and work for a reward, think simply in psychology. If their prey drive isn’t diverted into rewards then higher prey drive will turn into neurotic behavior and problems.
really nice man, can you do more stuff with APBT? I see you using a loto of GS. I have a pitbull and I'm training him for protection work. thanks for all the great advice!
Superlative exposition of the drive! If I didn’t know better, I’d say y’all hired Dateline NBC’s crime and pedophile busting Chris Hansen to narrative this clip! Lol
I’m an engineer so this makes sense for sure. One thing! Have you tried any RADAR CHART? it may help you trying to display the same data you presented us. Happy new year Mr. Shield 👍🏻
Just curious... how come pit bulls aren’t used for these jobs? These dogs are extremely powerful, fast and intelligent. I wonder if all the pit bulls in shelters can be trained to have these jobs. My pit bull has most of these qualities and she has never been trained. Just was wondering.
Same reason they stopped using Dobermanns, people are scared of them. If an APBT runs into a room in front of a 7 year old girl that was kidnapped it’d be more traumatizing than a Malinois with it’s high-pitched bark sounding like a dying pigeon. Plus they mix APBTs in the KNPV Malinois pretty often, so it’d just be inconvenient to rebreed APBTs to have significant hunt drive when they already have Mals, Dutchies, and GSDs.
Or they have too much drive and can’t think or shut off, they were bred to not shut off for too long. These dogs completely lose their minds when presented with anything resembling prey!
One night there was 3 people in back of my mother and stepfather place and my German shepherd was bar so i went to see what she was bar at then me and German shepherd went back their together and two of them back to a different car and she didn't back up to me and it was dark out
Holy fucks. You spent 4 minutes repeating yourself, with information that is incredibly irreverent. We already clicked on the video with such title. You don’t have to defend yourself for 1/8th of the video. Just freaking get to it. Ps, great information here.
When I see 28 minutes and 22 seconds I get so excited!!! 🤣🤣 Like a kid in a lolly shop !
Very nice of you to share your years and years of research to everyone.
Appreciate the effort you put into it. Truly. People just think because a dog is “smart” in their opinion, that’s where the magic of a working dog comes into play and it all just happens and little to no training or effort is required.

Thanks so much, you are generous with your knowledge...

Your a good teacher. For me, I can train the dog; Its the human thats hard! 😊
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've often heard about Drives but this explains it to me. I'm a new sport dog owner and in the steep learning curve that goes with that. Your channel is excellent.
I enjoy the fact that you are humble.
Awesome stuff ..... I can never thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and taking time to make these videos .... Love from NEPAL man ... Thankkssss ... :)
Id love to see a video on how to start you're dog in actual protection, starting on the sleeve and bark and hold etc. And what commands to use
There are plenty of videos. Just need to look back through the posted videos.
theyre all over this channel

Super good info for new people willing to do it in the sport of bite work to have correct protection methods !!!!
I love these Micheal Ellis esque educational videos, fantastic!

Great content again. You should do a video on your story/background
I’d loved to see a video on how you build up the nerves of a dog. In a nutshell “Prey Drive” is the dog’s overwhelming urge to get to a church! Cheers mates!!
I see what you did there🙏😂
I tried to make it as obvious as possible 😂! Brilliant! Cheers mate!!

Teach him not to!! Collar correction or ecollar. Should take 2-3 corrections if done properly.

You sound like the The Joker from Dark Knight.

It's Arousal, pursuit, grip and eat when it comes to natural prey drive not trained prey drive.
how to stop dog poop eating pls advice i am from india Bangalore i have black lab , i have achieved great training by watching your video
Just curious... how come pit bulls aren’t used for these jobs? These dogs are extremely powerful, fast and intelligent. I wonder if all the pit bulls in shelters can be trained to have these jobs. My pit bull has most of these qualities and she has never been trained. Just was wondering.
Pit bulls are K9’s. Service dogs. PTSD dogs for veterans. Therapy dogs. Hearing assistant dogs. SAR dogs.
