An important update on using my music on YouTube.

- From April 17, 2023, I will be implementing a 'Smart Content ID' system for the library to help stop bad actors from illegally claiming copyright on my music used in UA-cam videos.
But, there are changes to how you should credit me on UA-cam that need to know:
📌From April 17, 2023, anyone using my music on UA-cam will be required to put a credit IN THE DESCRIPTION of their videos.
This is a fundamental change from present, where you could provide a credit in the video itself. This change is required as new system can't recognise text in the video, and so it needs to be in the description below the video.
If you don't do this, then you will likely get a copyright claim from me.
But don't worry! If you get a claim after April 17, 2023, and you are sure you've credited me correctly in the description, you can read this quick guide to find out how to release the claim: www.scottbuckley.com.au/libra...

This is a big change for the library, but a change which I hope protects your interests as much as my own. I want the library to be an accessible and trustworthy source of free music, and this change will hopefully get us closer to that goal.
I'm so excited that there finally exists a Content ID solution for composers like myself who release music freely and openly. We also need to protect our music from unauthorised uses, but have never had proper tools to do so - until now.

@@ScottBuckley Scott, what if we use several of your songs in a single video, say a documentary? Would it be necessary to name each one of them in the description? Or just the example you gave in the video will do?
keep making more breakpoint coop videos deef, if not regularly, then at least give us some timeline. i wait for your videos. your breakpoint coop videos are top notch.

This change is amazing for content creators, I don't think people realize how hard it is to find songs that youtubers use in their videos if they don't credit it in the description.

thanks for this Scott! i love your stuff and use a couple of your songs, specially Electric Dreams for a while, sometimes due to the automatic Description filling, the credit slips up and i get a claim, so thanks for clearing it up! keep up the great work, and providing awesome music!

Thank you so much for ensuring all parties are protected. UA-cam's content ID system is unfairly biased and doesn't protect content creators who have been misled by artists who say things are free then change their mind.

This is a really thoughtful and helpful video with a nice modicum of forethought for potential issues. The quick release form is a great idea. A lot of music-using creators have been hit with these claims lately for music they had permission to use with a credit in the description, and the standard appeals process did not work - meaning they had to replace the songs. It's great to see a composer anticipate and fix issues for creators. Well done, Scott.
