  • Meet the Aqara P1 Motion Sensor, a tiny device with colossal capabilities. Based on the Amazon product description, the Aqara P1 works with Aqara Home, HomeKit, Alexa, IFTTT. Even the Supported Devices section of the ST app states “Hub Required”, suggesting that the Aqara Home hub is needed to integrate Aqara devices within ST. However, a custom edge driver is available which renders Aqara devices fully functional within the SmartThings app. This custom driver and installation instructions are currently available on our Bud's Smart Home website. That's right - you can unlock the full potential of Aqara devices without the need for their hub.

    Great video and information. Without your continued efforts, a lot of my devices would be useless. I have, I believe an earlier Aqara motion sensor, looks identical to the one you discussed, but didn’t say P1 on the box. Do you know if it’ll work with SmartThings? As an aside, I noticed under companies that work with ST’s that MEROSS is no longer listed. Do you know if they’ve parted company? Thanks for your great info, as always! Have a great day!

      Hi Dan, Yes, I believe that the former Aqara motion sensor will work with the same driver. Here is the install info and driver channel link: tinyurl.com/mr36df89
      Also here is a discussion about Meross on the ST Community. Short answer, it appears that there are no edge drivers and folks are waiting for them to roll out Matter enabled devices community.smartthings.com/t/edge-drivers-for-meross-plugs/252724/2

    Hi Bud ! Hope all is well ! I have a good question - I installed drivers for my Aqara P1 maybe a good year ago, I'm wondering if those custom edge drivers are still needed at this point, and if yes, where would I find any updates ? ( I'm amusing the drivers I downloaded and have installed do NOT auto-update..... ) anyway thanks for any info Bud !!

      Hi Frosty! Good to hear from you. Here are the instructions for the proper edge driver. tinyurl.com/mr36df89
      After you download the driver you can just go into the ST app and update to the new driver.

      @@BudsSmartHome Thanks for the help Bud. I finally was able to access that area, but when I go to that page, the driver says "uninstall" so that means I already have it installed. Funny ting, I installed that well over a year ago. But - you say once you download the driver ( which I guess I did over a year ago ) that I can go into the ST app and update to the never version ? I'm confused. I don't see any option to do that in my SmartThings app. The drivers by the way that I saw on that page are this one: Zigbee Sensors Edge Driver [YG] 1.8.16 ( and those were created or uploaded by that creator back in 2021 ! ) ( I can't believe there are no newer drivers than that ) .... am I wrong ? I don't know at this point. Argh. Anyway thanks for the help you gave me I do appreciate your time.

      Click on the P1 sensor to go in the device screen. Tap on the three dots, upper right. select “driver” from the drop down menu. Select “Zigbee Sensor Edge Driver (YG) 1.8.16”

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  8 місяців тому

      The Aqara FP2 is a WiFi device, so the integration options are different. (The FP1 used Zigbee). Aqara is planning to make this device Matter compatible so your best bet is to wait for the matter integration.

    Does this require a hardwired power connection?
    For example would I need a wire running up a wall or across a ceiling to power this?

    • @MrNchicago
      @MrNchicago 7 місяців тому

      Hmmmm. I watched longer and saw the dual battery - this is odd as the p1 I saw online indicated a wired power supply. I’ll have to look more carefully.

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  7 місяців тому

      No hardwired power required. It runs on two coin cell batteries that power it for up to 5 years.

      @ToniHinton 5 місяців тому

      @@MrNchicago I’m betting what you saw was the Aqara FP1 presence sensor, rather than the P1 motion sensor. Common mistake. The FP1 requires constant power, as do all the presence (which really should be called occupancy) sensors.

    Hi Bud - I'm new to home automation. I've no custom drivers on my ST V3 hub. Would adding custom edge drivers to my hub mess up any of my limited setup or routines? Thanks.

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Charles! Thank you for your question. Custom Edge drivers are downloaded to your hub and they enable automations to run locally, without the need for the internet. You already have Edge Drivers on your hub. These would have been installed by ST (SmartThings) when the ST ecosystem was converted from the former Groovy IDE to the new Edge (Lua) architecture. Find your hub in the ST app in the devices tab / tap on your Hub to open the device screen / tap on the three dots at the top / Tap on the word "Driver". You will see a list of installed drivers and under that are "Channels your hub is registered to". These listed drivers are "Stock" drivers. Custom drivers are those that enable non-native devices, like Aqara, to operate within the ST environment. To answer your concern directly, installing these drivers will not mess up your hub or routines. Does this response answer your question?

    I bought this sensor off Amazon with the hopes to turn on my Greenhouse lights when the LUX fell below a certain level during the day. However, it would appear the LUX value is only updated when motion is detected. I had no problem adding the sensor to SmartThings and subsequently Home Assistant. If anyone has any insight about this, or a suggestion for a light sensor that integrates with SmartThings that would be great.

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  7 місяців тому

      The Aqara P1 is a motion sensor, not the LUX sensor.. You are correct stating that it only updates upon the detection of motion.
      Might I suggest that you use the THIRDREALITY Multi-function Night Light. It is a Zigbee Repeater and it combines a Motion Sensor, a Illumination Sensor and RGB Color Night Light. You can trigger routines based on light level changes. Here is my product affiliate link: amzn.to/3GcMXWp
      Make sure you are buying the Zigbee version, not the Matter version. The Matter version is still a work in progress in regard to SmartThings. Here is my website guide for installation: tinyurl.com/3m6vxd6e

    Bud, on an unrelated note but SmartThings app related, the Find favorite in the ST app no longer shows my wife's phone location on the map and hasn't since 11/3. Her presence sensor is working properly as far as routines go. I've removed Find as a favorite and readded with no luck and I've cleared phone partition cache and force stopped ST app and cleared app cache. No luck. Any ideas how to get the Find location for her phone working again? Thanks Mike

    • @BudsSmartHome
      @BudsSmartHome  7 місяців тому

      I am not familiar with the feature " Find favorite" in the ST app. Later in your post you referenced "Find Location". Is that the feature that you are trying to access? If so, go to Favorites tab/Tap "Home"/Tap "Manage Locations"/Tap "Home"/tap on "people" under "Members"/ tap on your wife. You will need to change your wife's access to "Full Access" to allow her to change the geolocation on her phone. This however should not be necessary as the "Owner", (The person that was set up originally and who invites other members) can set the geolocation for all members. If I missed the mark, please provide more specifics as to where you are sourcing this option.

      Bud, thanks . It is the Find function (with map). I just added it to Favorites page. Drilling down as you said her access level is set to full access. Nothing has changed and up until a week ago the find feature would show her location on the map but no change since Nov 3 even though her VEdge presence sensor always shows correct state whether she is home or away. It is just the Find feature that is not showing her correct location.@@BudsSmartHome
