I'm Francesca, a French fashion journalist and fashion video editor specialized in Fashion Week and based in Paris, and this is my up-close and personal review of this Fall Winter 2022-23 Fashion Week edition!
After New York, London and Milan, the Fall Winter 2022-23 Ready-to-wear Fashion Week concluded in Paris on a different note against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. In times of war, fashion seems so irrelevant and we could expect runway shows and presentations to be cancelled as a sign of respect towards the global crisis the world is facing. Therefore, with a global revenue estimated between 1.7 trillion and 2.5 trillion dollars according to Euromonitor and McKinsey's research reports, fashion is in possession of a powerful voice! Donations, fundraisers and events, luxury fashion houses expressed their solidarity to Ukraine both on and off the runways.
At Coperni, the duo of creative directors Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, devoted their Fall Winter 2022-23 Ready-to-wear collection to the women of the Kiev-based atelier with whom they collaborate with on their creations.
At Milan, Giorgio Armani switched off the music and unveiled a silent show as a sign of respect towards people suffering in Ukraine. "The best thing to do is send a message that we don't want to celebrate because something very disturbing is happening around us" expressed the Italian fashion designer.
"Fashion doesn't matter now" said creative director Demna Gvasalia, who dedicated Balenciaga's Fall Winter Ready-to-wear collection to the climate crisis and the war in Ukraine, performing an apocalyptic runway show expressing the notion of resistance and reflecting the state of confusion that stormed the world, the image of models fighting extreme weather conditions as a questioning message.
Kering, the global luxury giant holding Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Gucci and Saint Laurent, announced a significant donation to the United Nations Refugees Agency; whereas LVMH possessing Céline, Dior, Fendi, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton communicated the donation of €5 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The voice of fashion stands for peace and in solidarity with Ukraine!
At Valentino, before the models hit the immaculate pink runway, Pierpaolo Piccioli read a statement to the audience: "it was a hard week, it is a hard moment; we reacted the only way we know - by working"; "love is the answer" he concluded.
This Fall Winter 2022-23 Ready-to-wear Fashion Week presented itself in an unexpected light, the excitement of returning in-person shows after two years of pandemic disturbed by this unexpected war.
Between the excitement, the confusion and the compassion; the Fall Winter 2022-23 Fashion Week carried the chaotic feeling of its eclectic trends opposing the eccentricity of the enthusiasm and the solemnity of the empathy. Fashion Week is an event during which ultimate selected fashion designers and fashion houses unveil their collections for the upcoming seasons in a series of runway shows and presentations to buyers and media influencing the fashion industry. It is the most important performance of the fashion industry as these collections define the upcoming fashion trends and influence the entire production line of the fashion trade and surely other industries.
To be in a position to define these Fashion Trends Reviews, I scrupulously attend to every show personally or digitally. New York, London, Milan and Paris, that means more than a thousand shows depending on the season. Then, it is my expertise and experience in fashion that allow me to understand and define the upcoming fashion trends, based on my understanding and knowledge of the evolution of fashion.

I love watching Fashion Shows from 1990's. The models walk the runway with life in them. The models now look zoned out like zombies.
