    Hi Slawek, by far the best (Flow Control) video I've seen and I've been looking for quite a few! I like that it's also straight to the point, easy to understand and only 8min long. I've also been comparing machines on your website for a few days and I'm hesitating between gifting my mom a (Profitec Pro 500 or Rocket Crono Type V) as she clearly doesn't need any higher-grade but then I'm also thinking of maybe instead giving her my 99% new Rocket R58 to get that Synchronika with flow control heh. Damn hard decisions!

  • @PanzerIV88

    lol Doing ~4 things at a time and saying "...and I don't need to worry about anything" never said someone with OCD hehe. Even though I can both froth and brew at the same time on my R58, I just can't watch my extraction from the naked portafilter, check my Acaia scale, keep the right angle while frothing and keeping another eye on the thermometer from the pitcher, and play with the flow control allll at the same time, that's not gonna happen XD
    Just purchased today another Rocket machine from you guys and a flow control device from Profitec to fit my current R58 so I had to watch that video again. Can't wait to receive all that new stuff! :D

    Always wondered if this machine's flow control could be adjusted - now I know. I am assuming that the flow control works whether the machine uses direct water supply or internal reservoir? This is a great, clear video. Thanks.
    I have a question. Does a fully open flow control knob match or exceed stock flow?
    I ask because there are videos about flow control that describe 1.25 revolutions from closed as stock flow. They also explain that, towards the end of the range, the flow rate climbs more rapidly.

    • @iDrinkCoffeeCanada
      @iDrinkCoffeeCanada  2 роки тому +3

      That's a really good question. I haven't measured it personally but my feeling is that it does. I think that fully open the orifice of the flow restrictor is larger than in the stock gicleur so the flow would be greater than machine without the flow control and just with a standard mushroom

I am finding that a grind thats giving me the correct weight at 30 seconds with the original hardware, is giving me super fast sputtery flows with the flow control hardware once the pressure is rampped up after a pre infusion. Any tips?

      Just curious, hav eyou got to fix ur issue after 3 months of practice since your comment? I've read elsewhere that some users needed to grind a bit finer when playing with the flow control because of the pre-infusion I guess. I don't know if it's only if you pre-infuse for too long though.

    Very informative video. I noticed that the water flows out in a single stream at the beginning of the video (both at low as well as Max flow), instead of a dispersed shower. Is this the norm on this type of machine and would a focused flow like this lead to channeling or uneven puck saturation/extraction?

    • @iDrinkCoffeeCanada
      @iDrinkCoffeeCanada  4 роки тому +2

      This is normal flow for an E61 group without any coffee. Once you put coffee in the puck and you get back pressure the spray evens out.

    • @iDrinkCoffeeCanada

      In a way yes, a flow control device reduces the flow so it takes pressure longer to build. The effect is similar to pressure profiling but not exactly pressure profiling

  • @aceleri1
    @aceleri1 4 роки тому +3

    Hi does the pre-infusion work with the machine running off the reservoir and not plumbed in? I have been told you can only pre-infuse with a water line??

    • @PanzerIV88
      @PanzerIV88 4 роки тому +1

      From what I understood, it is even more useful to those who aren't plumbed-in as otherwise there is no way to pre-infuse but with a flow-control you get to mimic a plumbed-in machine since you can start for example at 1-2 bars for a 10-20s pre-infusing instead of being 100% of the time at the full 9.5 bars. Plumbed machines have a default in-line pressure around 2 bars at the house or you can have an external filtering thingy such as those from BWT to then lower the pressure to 1-2 bars if ur house have too much pressure.
      So a plumbed machine without flow control will be able to pre-infuse at 1-2 bar yes, but then it will be full pump at 9 bars, no in between. That's the point of flow control so they get the in-between but people on reservoir get the adjustements AND the pre-infuse capability so it's really interesting as you don't need to spend an extra 400-500$ on a rotary pump and break ur kitchen's countertop to plumb the machine ^^

      @@PanzerIV88 does flow control improve the taste, and would you recommend this machine over the lelit Bianca?

    • @PanzerIV88
      @PanzerIV88 2 роки тому

      @@hitshot I don't know any Lelit machines but I can say that there's a few things which you can't go wrong such as having a PID, E61 brewer, HX or double boiler over single boiler, having at least 1.2Bar if steaming pressure.
      To be honest I ended up not really experimenting all that much over the last year, as I find dialing my grinder to get my 2:1 ratio of 20g for 40ml between 25-30sec to be more important overall. I just started last week to do the WDT technique with a tool from Amazon and it DOES make a difference in puck consistency. Same thing for my new grinder since 2 weeks when I went from a 65mm "Rocket Fausto" to the awesome 83mm single doser "Ceado SD37" and also started doing the RDT technique with a water bottle that came with it, major difference to reduce mess and static, like it gives me 0.00g or at worse 0.01g of retention inside, it's just crazy efficient!
      So all this makes more of a difference than flow control which is anything but cheap so better keep that money and invest in a better grinder, that is so underrated. I have a friend who bought his first real machine "ECM Classika" or something like that, 1000$ single boiler... But since he had such a sh*tty grinder, he never got to use his espresso machine and had to return it after all the tests I've done with my tool on his equipment.
      So I'd say that flow control is the last thing you get, very optional and a temperature gauge is prolly gonna be cheaper and more useful imo. It's very hard to dial the pressure in between, seems like it stays low during pre-infusion like 2 bars or 4 at most but then if you open it one quarter, it goes quickly to full 9.5bars so okay if you want to pre-infuse more than default E61 but good luck doing fancy profiles and that's gonna be a waste of time on anything less than top quality and freshness coffee.

    at 1:37 the water flow from the shower screen at the pre infusion phase is not giving a water shower effect . is this the stock shower screen. any reason why its pouring as one channel rather than even wide shower droplets?

    • @iDrinkCoffeeCanada
      @iDrinkCoffeeCanada  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, this part is refered to as a shower screen but the dispersion isn't like an actual shower when there is no coffee. When you have coffee and back pressure it does help in dispersing the water around the whole puck but that is the normal flow for an e61 with the portafilter removed
