If it's any consolation, the historical Consort Li, 李宸妃, was given the title, 章懿皇太后, posthumously by Emperor Renzong. Consort Li may have been murdered by Empress Liu, (Liu E, 劉娥), who certainly fitted the description of the unscrupulous Empress Dowager in this depiction.
Justice Bay fits the role, so is the assistant ! Good actors and actresses , English subtitles consistently there , wide screen and series are good production
the empress dowager is such a hypocrite... She used to be a victim too and became a blind street beggar when she was falsely accused by consort Liu, and was helped by Judge Bao. How could she can't sympathized with Xian Liang? She should have felt herself the pain of injustice, and now she is biased with the princess and Chen She Mei and put pressure on poor Xian Liang? it's called being real. what the empress said is true, if xian lian keep going with the lawsuit that is the most probable outcome. it's lose-lose situation in the end. common people in ancient china were not smart, even the smarter ones like xian lian tend to hold naive ideals and blind justice. blind justice is like an open sword, it cuts whoever came close. even if she win the lawsuit, she and her kids would forever be in danger. the empress is offering an alternative solution with win-win solution where both sides won't suffer catastrophic damage and would at least ensure the future of xian lian's kids. if a modern woman were to be offered such offer, she is most likely to take the offer without too much consideration because the future & safety of her children should be priority no.1.

Based on the show so far, people who are guilty are really paranoid of loose ends, and the only way they know for certain it wouldn't come back to them later on is to kill her and the children anyway. It might seem like a good deal at first, her getting the money and living a better life, but all it really is, is a ploy to prevent fuma form getting executed and deal with her later. What's so detestable about the empress isn't simply because she abused her power to try and prevent Fuma from being executed, what's detestable is she was exactly in that situation. According to your logic, that she meant well, she didn't need her justice too, the emperor doesn't know his real mom, and from what it seems the empress had raised him like her own son, everyone was happy. She did everything to see justice for herself. It didn't really benefit other people, the Emperor was happy being filial that then empress. But for the sake of argument, let's say it is for the kids, they needed a father and her way, at least 1 family gets to be a complete family, what do you the kid would've thought of their father knowing what kind of a man he is, abandoning his own parents and ordering assassination to his own family and children. Even the empress should be ashamed to have a son in law like him, what would the people have said. The kids would've been living a lie, the empress and the princess would've been living a lie for the sake of image, assuming the civilians didn't know about it. And if he had the heart to do it to one family who's to say he wouldn't do it again?
Just in case, in the old 1993 version this case was the very first case. At that time the Dowager was still Consort Liu. The story about her and Consort Li was the 3rd case.

i just watched the very original version of execution of chen shimei (1993 version that is) and all i can say is that this version is quite different from the 1993 version.
the english title " sin of lust" is not appropiate. the sin of chen shimei is greed and love of money and power. he knew if he married the princess then he is set for life.
In Asian culture the concept of lust, greed and gluttony are compounded in to one, they are quite interchangeable. That and also his greed may have sparked from a moment of lust as well.
Wang Hao, an actor of Chen Shimei in Justice Bao 2008, later he became an Renzong Emperor in Justice Bao 2011 Loyalty Unto Death and 2012 Kaifeng Mystery. Meanwhile Gao Liang, an actor of Renzong Emperor in Justice Bao 2008 later became Assassin Gou Rong in Justice Bao 2012 Kaifeng Mystery 😂😂😂

If the emperor has a sister, a princess still by rank, can have a Fuma and it’ll be the emperor’s bro-in-law. Fuma/prince consort just means a guy marrying into royal family, and it’s a matrilocal marriage. On the other hand, if a girl marries into royalty to a prince, she’ll be princess consort, or if she marries the Crown Prince, she’ll be Crown Princess Consort.
The title, 铡美案, can be translated as "the Case of the Lever Execution of Chen Shi Mei". It is a story of faithlessness & heartlessness in the person of Chen Shi Mei. It is bad enough that he abandoned his wife & children; but he allowed his parents to be subjected to deprivation & death, which is the most heinous example of being unfilial. Hiding his background constituted deception of the emperor, which was a capital offense. It is also a story of the unflinching quest for justice in the person of Bao Zheng, who withstood the most intense pressure from the high & mighty.

I don't know about this one but in the original 1993 series this was actually the first case. Only after this case did people call Bao Zheng "Bao Qing Tian", thanks to his righteousness.
The show has very low production. You can see the glue on the actors' face holding their beards. The source materials are good tho. But the original show was much better, this series is 2010 and has redone a lot of the old show's stories. In the original version Zhan Zhao (the royal guard) is more active in the investigation and it shows his martial skill and background in the underworld. Basically his scenes are the equivalent of the uniform and cop car scene in modern crime shows. The trial scenes are also more extensive, intense, drama-free and graphic in the original show. You can see bodies and skeletons being displayed, ME examinations going on-screen, and the beheading are shot very realistically as well. If you are looking for it, look for series that exists before 2000. No sub as far as I'm aware off, however, some people may have done it.

Bao Zheng was a real historical figure in China. He was as righteous, honest and solemn as you see in the series. However, several things are fictionalized for dramatic effects. The real Bao Zheng did not have black skin, nor did he have any crescent moon scar on his forehead. Chinese culture considers black skinned people as righteous, and Bao Zheng is a prime example of righteousness, so they just present him that way in series/books/etc. The real Bao Zheng had a family, and he loved his family greatly. In fiction, Bao Zheng never married and he was abandoned by his mother because of that "black skin" above. (Ironic eh?) The real Bao Zheng only worked in Kaifeng for 1 year before taking up other duties by the Emperor. Right now, it's probable that his right hand man, Zhan Zhao, was also a real historical figure, but Chinese history has been quite inconsistent on this character. On the other hand, there has been no mention of his other right hand man, Gongsun Ce, so I guess he is just an entirely fictional character.

No. Anyone who is a son-in-law of the king/Emperor is called Fuma, his wife is just one of the many daughters.
