good grief, imagine a nation of (largely middle class, largely Southern) people on their way to work listening to Mark E. Smith coming out of their radios
Shared the stage with The Fall at Deeply Vale Festival 1978, I was then with a band called Howard the Duck! It was an honour, Mark is a wonderfully difficult Salfordonian tw*t!
Steward Lee is from Birmingham, Mark E Smith was from Manchester, both are in England and they are conversing in English to each other as they are in fact English.
I've followed The Fall since the mid 80s and was born and lived most of my life in Manchester,am from a working class family and am white..I definitely don't feel displaced by immigrants ,I can't see this Islamification thing either ..I see a few mugs whose anger gets displaced onto people of different races by reading The Sun,Star and Mail etc.As for what Mark E Smith thinks ?..I don't know what he thinks .but it's totally irrelevant in regards to me forming my own opinion .
Love MES but can't help thinking David Threlfall had inspiration from him for the iconic Frank Gallagher on Shameless; though I bet it's already been mentioned, ..
It's a bit light on information - basically Stew having great fun chatting to one of his heroes - but it's enjoyable because of that sense of fun. Mark has the filthiest, most brilliantly wicked laugh! I missed this when it was on, so thanks @sambar0986 for bringing together three of my favourite things: MES, Radio 4 & Stewart Lee. :-D
All 3 wrong; full house. Salford is Salford and not Manchester. Mark is from Preswich, Bury. Fits in well with what I do and just refer to anyone from the south as a twat.
5:09 "Pseudo-Mystics - I'm the Real Deal, matey" . . . Mark E. Smith and The Fall are my absolute fave!

Describing the BBC coming to Manchester as 'the mountain coming to Mohammed' is the best thing I have ever heard
U can definitely see lee Perry’s influence on mes in the streams of consciousness- and delivery .
I want to hear the full 40 minute conversation

Donald Peoples, it's heavy Mancunian, but it's still English; just pay attention.
Morgan Rieder 😁😁😁👏👏👏
Morgan Rieder Refer to Cheetham Hill, 'was he from Salford or Manchester'.
Mark E talks Salfordian but drunken Salfordian.
It's Salfordian, nothing like Mancunian

Don't be fooled by Manchester, it's no all it's cracked up to be.
'Pseudo-Mystics...I'm the Real Deal Baby...'

Frank Gallagher is actively workshy whereas MES is one of the hardest working artists around... I mean, the clue's in the name GALLAGHER
