    That's how I make grits too! I learned to put milk in from my grandmother. She never never used cheese, but sometimes I'll throw a handful of grated cheddar in at the end for my son. Another thing I do is pour leftover grits into a small loaf pan and refrigerate. After they chill you can slice it like bread and fry it in a skillet or even grill it on a grill. So easy. Great video, thanks!

    Tracie's Place! This is how you teach us regular folk to cook! You show the mess, you talk about each step, there's no flash and spectacle with cute head shots, sidekicks and unfunny asides. It was just good, honest cooking. It felt like mornings in my grandma's kitchen when I stood on a chair next to her while she was 'gettin' breakfast'. Well done, Ma'am. Well done. Can't wait to make grits like you showed me!

    Aha! Now I know how to make REAL grits! I was born and raised in the North, but I was introduced to grits in college in South Carolina, and I've been hooked ever since. The grocery stores here in New Mexico only carry instant grits (BLEAH!) but thank the grits gods for Amazon. I discovered Geechee Boy Mills (soon to be Marsh Hen Mill) Speckled Grits awhile back, and I haven't used anything else since. I find I like my grits better using sea salt. Probably all in my head, but I think sea salt has a sharper flavor, so I can use about half as much salt as would be the usual. Butter gives a much better flavor than margarine, in my opinion, especially when using European-style butter (Trader Joe's, Kerrygold or Plugra, etc.) I also like a hefty (if not healthy) dash of grated Parmesan. I'll have to try it with milk - I'd never heard of that. Using Parmesan also makes grits creamier, I think. Now that I think of it, one of these days I'll have to try 'em New Mexico style with a bit of mild green chile added, and see if that works. I'll have to wait until one of my former co-workers (I'm retired) gives me some home-grown and roasted green chile, though -- the frozen stuff in the stores loses most of the lovely green flavor. Right now is chile roasting season!
    Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video. It brought back memories of some of the wonderful Southern cooking I experienced in my years in SC. That's where I learned to like a lot of things that my mother's "English Farm" style cooking made inedible.

I had a biscuit and pancake recipe in my Cooking with Tracie and In The Kitchen With Tracie playlist section. But the pancakes are not from scratch, just a added to box mix because I can’t eat eggs. I hope you like one of them 🤗✨💕 (If it’s ok with you, please feel free to share the video on Facebook or other social media, I’m trying to promote some of my cooking videos for others to see 😊)

My cardiologist said it's better the heart has know blockages. After so many years making grits i remix now. I add seasons before adding the grits and i add milk at the end. Thanks your grits looks delicious.

    • @pepperco100
      @pepperco100 2 роки тому

      @Ella McCall You need a better cardiologist! The one you have now is too lazy to inform himself about peer-reviewed research done since he was a medical student. Oleomargarine is UNHEALTHFUL! Plus, it tastes awful. Some medical doctors parrot that which they were taught in medical school until they retire -- wholly oblivious to new research. A good medical doctor stays abreast of medical science as it progresses.

    This is almost exactly how my grandmother made her grits. She would first cook bacon in the pot then add the water, milk, butter, and grits. As the grits cooked she would break the bacon in peices then towards the end of cooking the grits she would add the bacon chunks and stir them in. We would add more butter to the grits after pouring in the bowl. Definitely gonna try your recipe! Looks amazing 😋

When I moved out and was buying my own groceries. That's when I also realized that butter is "healthier" but also more expensive. I now get mine at Costco to save some money lol

      You still cook "5minute" and instant grits for at least 15-30 minutes on a Low heat. Sample them, and if you are satisfied with the texture, cut the heat off and let them sit for at least 5-10 minutes or you can eat them immediately.

    What kind of grits is everyone using? 5-minute or old fashioned. I’ve made this like 3 times and came out perfectly every time. I finished the canister and threw it out so I don’t remember which I used.

    You mentioned that some people add sugar, is that in addition to the salt or instead of?

      Some add sugar in place of the salt.

    I hate to tell you, but that sprinkling was not 3/4 of a teaspoon of salt. it was more like three or 4 teaspoons. it still looks good though

    That’s way too much salt for me. Looks good though. Never made it with milk before but ill definitely try it this weekend.

      Hi Geneva! They really came out great- not salty at all for the amount of grits used. I’ve tried with less and they were a little on the bland side- but of course everyone has different taste buds. But yes, lower the salt if need be, I always taste the water after I season it and that kinda lets me know what I’m in for. Please let me know how they come out for you- thanks for watching! 🤗✨👍🏽

    The proper ratio of gritis to liquid is one part grits to four parts liquid.

    Anyone familiar with white maize flour? i'm just wondering if maize flour porridge tastes the same as grits given that we use the same recipe in Kenya for our porridges.
