You don't exactly have to play by these rules. You could play with much more, but I guess these are the basic rules.

I remember the square being designated as 1.President 2. Vice President 3. Secretary 4. Sgt at Arms
I believe we did this too motivate us to keep or advance positions and the President could make a rule for the Vice President send them to the back of the line. The Vice President could a rule for the secretary too send them to the back of the line and the Sgt at Arms could make a rule for the President too send him back a square.

Rules of 4 Square.
1. No carrying
2.dont hit down
3.dont hit out
4.dont let hit your square.

You can make up your own rules for the most part but it’s four square, not being able to hit down would make spiking impossible and at a certain level that’s boring.

Idk where these rules came from. We never played like this as a kid. We had bobbling or no bobbling. Black jack & red jack. Whipping or no whipping. Spiking. And a ton of others that i cant remember now. But the rules youre describing sound very lame. Appreciate the effort tho. Just doesnt look like much fun for a kid.
