Hello... UA-cam just suggested this video.. I have an 83 Mc-9 with the 6V92TA ... conversion.
My VERY first time driving it "any bus" was during COVID lockdowns Through downtown Portland, Salem through the Santiam pass where it was all ice uphill and downhill with 7% grades... Man what a WHITE KNUCKLE DRIVE.... SCARED SHISTLESS... But she drove Great, stopped on a dime for such a beast.

I can say it's not an ex Greyhound as it has the MCI lettering on the front and small rub guards. Some of Greyhounds dash 9s had the small rub guards, mainly the Canadian ones. Also, by 1981, Greyhounds dash 9s all had the 6v92.

On the 8100 and maybe 8200 series MC-9s, a lot of them seemed to have the rubber side rails. This was actually the base setup and the full size metal rails were an option. The Canada buses that had the flat bumpers with no rubber strips and the rubber side rails was the base no extra cost setup, anything different there was extra.

As someone who split my time between Greyhound layoffs, driving for charter outfits in the early 1980s, I can say that, while I can respect the reality of this video involving the driver and the camera operator in the back of the bus, if I were a passenger on this bus, with this guy driving this way, I would want to get up and slap him upside his head. When I drove buses, smoothness was a virtue. Tromping on, and then backing off the throttle, and then being heavy on the brakes, like this dude is doing, kept people awake. As a professional motor coach operator, the last thing the driver wants to see in the mirror, is over 40 sets of eyeballs leaning out in the aisle wondering what’s the hurry. The goal is to put them asleep. I accomplished this two ways. I drove smoothly and I cranked up the heat. To me, the din of 47 passengers in conversation was kryptonite. After a full day on a charter, that was the racket most likely to induce drowsiness.
About this bus, the MC-9 is my absolute favorite among all of the buses I got to drive. I prefer one with the 5-speed manual transmission over the Allison automatic. The automatic, as can be seen in this video, is too clunky.
