  • In this video, we share our wonderful evening where Russians gathered with Filipino friends for a heartfelt dinner. We enjoyed delicious Lechon Manok chicken, discussed interesting topics, and shared stories about how we ended up on Samal Island and why we love the Philippines. I learned a few words and phrases in the local Bisaya dialect, and our friend Andrei Kazakh delighted us with songs in Tagalog. It was a truly special evening of cultural exchange, friendship, and fun!

    In tagalog, magandang umaga means good morning. Magandang hapon means good afternoon. Magandang gabí means good evening. We also have magandang tanghali. It's a greeting when it's twelve noon.
    Ha-pon, which means afternoon is read slowly with two syllables ha-pon. On the other side, Hapón, referring to the Japanese has the stress on the second syllable. Papel de Hapón is Japanese paper while Papel de Manila is Manila paper.
    Gabí which means night has its stress on the second syllable. You pronounce it fast while gabi, a root crop, has two syllables ga-bi, which is pronounced slowly. In English, it's taro, used to cook laing, a Bicol dish.
    The Philippines was colonized by Spain for 333 years such that we use lots of words with Spanish origin like cuchillo which is kutsilyo in our dialect and cuchara which is kutsara in Filipino.

  • @MillardoArqueza
    @MillardoArqueza День тому

    If you pronounce ha-pon slowly, then it means afternoon. But if you pronounce it fast like h'pon (hapon), it will sound to mean 'japanese'. However, it is understandable that what you actually mean is 'good afternoon' since it's not possible that you're calling/greeting someone in front of you as 'beautiful japanese. So the one's replying to you 'japanese?' is definitely making fun of your pronunciation of the word 'hapon'.

      @@ValentinaLovingPhilippines oh I see because some Filipinos are concerned that they might be uncomfortable in those two small houses,the house that Jelena and her kids used to live is bigger and also has a small house along with it and it has a gate,the whole family of Liza can live comfortably.
