Your generosity as an instructor fills me with profound respect and so much gratitude. 🙏 Thank you for making such rich instruction available to even the poorest among us. 💗 There are many great YT artists and instructors out there, and I appreciate them all, but you bring a unique something-something that I really treasure. Thank you for the privilege of learning from you.

Thank you so much for your kind words Nancy! It really means a lot - I feel like I make these videos in a bit of a “vacuum” for weeks (just me and my microphone and paints) and I am not sure whether a particular topic will resonate every time. Reading direct feedback is super helpful and encouraging. Thank you for taking the time! 😊🩵

I SINCERELY appreciate this, too. I 100% agree with their words. Art is my therapy, but my health & finances make professional education a distant dream.

OM🌟 ! I never even knew you painted portraits! I'm THRILLED to see this video! You're such a fantastic teacher & my main goal with watercolor is realistic portraits. To learn this from you is more than I expected. TYSM😊
I would love to see dark skin as the next topic. Also I seem to prefer artists who pain dark skin with a purple undertone or a variety of as opposed to using a variety of browns. The layers of brown pain make the subject seem lifeless. As you used multiple colors on her skin, I'd like to see the colors you choose when painting rich warm dark skintones. Like a cinnamon skintone.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I am by no means a portrait expert (my specialty is botanicals) but similar fundamental principles of light and shadow can be applied 😊and my goal with this (and every other video I make) is to break things down so that we can all get better and try different things and different subjects. Yes definitely next one I need to record is a darker skin tone with some lovely violets and greens 🩵

This is such a beautiful portrait!! I should really try portraits in watercolour, which I find really difficult compared to pastels or colour pencils - maybe the key is really a limited palette, so I will experiment with my 6 colour travel palette now. Thanks so much for the inspiration!

You had me worried for a minute or two Anna, I thought you were going to leave that big dark shadow that looked like she had a giant bruise on the right side of her forehead. lol! I should have known better! As always the painting ended up beautiful in the end. What an amazingly beautiful green eyed little girl. I had green eyes as a child, they later turned brown as I got older and my blonde hair darkened to brown. Green eyes are the least common eye color, and always my favorite eye color.

I can’t remember the video, but you mentioned the quest for the perfect red and ended up with a lot of reds! Yeah, me too! Right now, Schmincke has THE RED to end all searches. If I’d had this historical hue when I began watercolor painting, I’d only have made one purchase of red. Not kidding. It’s their limited edition vintage cochineal red. It’s not vegan, if you know the history of the color. But I got it at Jackson’s and because it’s on sale right now, I’m about to order two more tubes (I never want to run out). At its most concentrated, it’s a deep, bright, carmine red (but without any purplish tones at its darkest), and as it’s diluted out to mainly water (you can still get a sweet pink when you’re using what amounts to dirty paint water, basically), it becomes the most perfect, pale, unassuming pink.
I get nothing by sharing this info… except for knowing I tried!
    You’re an amazing artist! ❤

Omg tell me everything - what is the exact name and pigment number !??? I literally just started exploring Schminke (mostly granulating but some blue) and I am absolutely in love with this brand 🥰 no red Schmnke yet … please give me the name!!!! 😄 is it Ruby red?

Ok I had to re-read your message carefully because I was too excited at first. So it’s called “cochineal red”? Ok I will first check in my local store although here in Canada we never get the full range of anything... I’ll order from Jackson’s if I have to ❤️❤️❤️
