How to Make Interesting Textures with Acrylic Paint

  • In this video I'm sharing how to create interesting textures and marks using acrylic paints. I LOVE brushes! I use them all the time. But I also like the different effects you can get by using unusual hardware store tools and things you find around the house.
It's REALLY important not to worry about making a painting when you are playing with new marks and textures .... that's why I am showing you something that definitely cannot be considered a painting ... playing is an essential part of my process and I firmly believe it needs to be part of yours too. I hope this video helps!

My roommate and I just sat outside at 10:30pm Saturday night and binge watched some of your Amazing videos. You are by far my favorite artist and I share you with all my artist friends. As I have told you before- your generosity in sharing your knowledge and skill and ideas is such a gift you give to all of us- especially Me! Thank You Dear Louise❤️ You are helping me grow my confidence as an artist. I hope you continue to create and share. I Love watching you mix paints and especially hearing you talk about your thought processes as you work on your pieces. Your thoughts about “nothing is ever wasted” and “never give up on a painting” is extremely helpful to me. Have a Great Week! Much love from one of your biggest fans- Jalyne in Utah USA ❤

That was fun. Only one caution....bubble wrap is used by so many "artists" now, that it's no longer a clever trick or something we all haven't seen too often in my opinion. I like the way Louise still considered composition, balance, & variety even while "just playing".

This has reminded me I can play at the beginning of a new piece, I’ve been feeling tight and intimidated by a bank board thinking I needed to get the loud conversation sorted out first - this suggests to me ok just play make marks its only layer one the curating and editing can come later! Thanks for the inspiration

I found this really really helpful and inspiring. I realise that the FYJ course is about feelings rather than techniques or critiques, but actually seeing the practicalities explained like this is fantastically liberating. I just don't 'know' enough. I need permission to do crazy things... it literally extends my field of operation. I want more of this. I would like to know more about paper, canvas, board, books, pens, inks, paints, gels, toners, printing, etc etc.... I want to expand my operational area... without missing the potential of various materials through not-knowing. Thank you very much indeed.
