Well I've heard there was a secret chord That David played and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? Well it goes like this: The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Well your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew ya She tied you to her kitchen chair And she broke your throne and she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah But baby I've been here before I've seen this room and I've walked this floor You know, I used to live alone before I knew ya And I've seen your flag on the marble arch And love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Well there was a time when you let me know What's really going on below But now you never show that to me do ya But remember when I moved in you And the holy dove was moving too And every breath we drew was Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Maybe there's a God above But all I've ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya And it's not a cry that you hear at night It's not somebody who's seen the light It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah

Bridget, - would be nice i you could mention in your description, that this song is written by Leonard Cohen. - Cohen deserves great credit for this song, and when it says "by Jeff Buckley"- Im afraid people get the wrong idea. Best R
Leonard Cohen said that Jeff Buckley's version was his favourite, and I'd have to agree. When Cohen sang it, it saw almost sardonic, and mocking. kd lang;s version is an anthem...but Buckley's is an unbearable tragedy, and that's what the song says to me. Believe it or not, JB did an almost identical version to this, but I can't find it anywhere. I originally got it from a file-sharing site and I thought it was just slightly better than this one...or maybe just tweaked somewhat by someone that does that kind of thing. It starts with a quite sharp inhalation before the guitar begins, although that may have been editied out here, , and the tempo is SLIGHTLY slower, the gutiar part is almost identical, as is that note he holds for so long at the end....which makes me think it's a tweaked version of the same recording. Wish I still had it. Cohen also said something like "It's a nice little song, but it's been done enough." or words to that effect. I once read there are 5 spiral notepads with the original lyrics - over 80 verses. I've heard 2 or 3 more than there are here, but nowhere near even 20. I sure would like to.
Not sure what this song is about. but it's got a good melody. I am partial to the Sad Kermit cover of this song. My wife likes the Jeff Buckley version. Way too many covers of this song. The lyrics don't make sense.
My mother's quite religious and she really loves this song. Thing is, despite the sombre tone, she thinks this song is a 'happy' one. It really, REALLY, isn't.
This song came on as I drove home from work today. It was just what I needed.
Merci beaucoup, cette interprétation du chant de Leonard Cohen par Jeff buckley est juste grandiose ...
Totalement d'accord
One of these song you can't hate....
