I grew up in the Bronx, NY and was trying to describe this treat to my wife. I was telling her this was one of my fondest memories as a child, buying these from a local street vendor. I couldn't rember the name. Thanks for posting the recipe!
This is exactly how my granpa used to make it and how I grew up eating it as well. Thank you so much for taking me back to PR and the beautiful memories of my home. ❤
Wow I have been smiling this entire video.. my entire childhood came back to me. I can't lie... Living upstairs from old Puerto Rican womanade for amazing eating. She always sent food upstairs. She is who taught me to make rice and beans, and yellow rice. So lucky for me I don't have to make it from a box. I can enjoy authentic
I did it last week. It was so incredibly delicious!!! We have it very, very hot in Germany right now and it was the perfect refreshment! Thanks a lot and regards from Germany!
Wonderful...! Piragua, Limbers, and Helado de Coco all rivet my childhood memories. I was born and come from Manhattan, on the Lower Eastside, some family lived in El-Barrio, etc. I lived in the Bronx for years, worked in Brooklyn, and you could find all of these in those areas! My children also partook of this in their childhood... Thanks so much for keeping these traditions alive!
im so thankful to find your videos, im Puerto rican as well but not really in tune with my culture, i rep PR through and through but sadly i don't speak Spanish lol my grandfather and his side of the family do though. This is a great way for me to find authentic and traditional Puerto Rican dishes and pass them on through my family and to get a taste of where i come from :) thanks for sharing all of your videos. by the way, i used your recipe for Mofongo the other day with some arroz gandules and i fried some platanos to have on the side, AMAZING!
I've been living in the Bronx the vast majority of my life. What you said about some lady selling limbel in the neighborhood is so true, and it brought back faint memories of my childhood. I love limbels. I bought two coconuts today, and I will be trying this recipe tomorrow morning. Thank you, very much.
wow mi abuela in puerto rico use to sell these along with the tamarind and peanut butter and cherry. She use to have the tamarind plants in the back of her house along with a deep freezer in the kitchen. I miss her and this brought back memories going to the island every so often just to help her make them and sell them all while eating my limber.....
Omg!!! You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to find Abuela’s limber!!! She always did it in the ice trays, and the LAYERS is how I knew abuela made it. Ahi in the kitchen toasting the coconut to crack it open! 😂 thank you!!! 🙌🙌
I am so happy to see that someone that is fair is familiar with our tradition can keep it going I love the way you do bilingual English to Spanish my Spanish I cannot write it or read it but I can speak it so I can understand what you're telling me and yes I love your recipes and I also love the way you explained it and you show it and you educate the ones that are in the USA cuz we need to keep this tradition going thank you so much and God bless.
Me encantan tus recetas las haces super faciles no con tanto procedimiento por eso me fasinan muchas gracias por tantas resetas ricas Dios te bendiga!!! Boricuaaa
Hi Ida I am a new subbie. I am Italian but I adore Puerto Rican cuisine. My best friend is Puerto Rican and has taught me quite a bit. Your step by step instructions make it easy and enjoyable to watch. I am so glad I found your channel. I think you are AMAZING!!!! God Bless! Luv from New York!
i love all your recipes ♡♡♡♡ you are my life saver since we moved from orlando to alaska! its so hard to find all the ingredients but oh my god is it worth it! i love cooking and i must say thank you for sharing your love for cooking ♡
I only had this one time and it was when I went to PR. My titi made it and put it in ice cube molds with a chunk of coconut meat at the bottom I loved it
Just moved to Los Angeles from Pennsylvania and they're are barely any puerto ricans I miss the food so much this helped alot 🙏🏻 please show how to make a pernil
Best part is if your not Puerto Rican if you don't flip it omg it's so good but knowing me I would've left the coconut in it I do mines the other way I will definitely have to try this one reminds me of the raspo de coco the old man used to shave from the brick of ice that's soooo good! Thanks for the vid!
MILLYNWILL we, puertorricans, have those too and they are called Piraguas. This type of goodies are made for the summer. Ironically, in Puerto Rico these are sell all year around. They are soooooooo good.
I used to eat these like crazy when I was younger and living in PA. There was a lady down the block from where I lived that sold them in different flavors. Coco was always my favorite.
Lawrence Mass had them in neighborhood homes for a quarter all different flavors but the coconut was the best and we would just flip them no one told us but seeing you did brought back funny tasty memories....I gonna have to make them now ty for the recipe no how Boston Bob
I think it must be what we could get in Old San Juan and sold in tiny paper cups by street vendors. Like a sherbet, sorbet type of consistency but creamy too. SO GOOD!
Whenever I go home, my sister takes me to a friend who makes this delicious dessert. Is she has another type that has a flavoring that looks like it might be red. This is so good
Gracias!! saludos désde nuestra bella isla Puerto Rico..
Thanks for the video I love the coconut ones too but I've been dying to eat the peanut butter ones can you please post a video on how to make them I haven't had them for years Thank you Sweets and Beyond
I just want to mention that when you freeze something salty or sweet, it does not diminish the saltiness or sweetness. Be careful because chemical properties change the flavor and it intensifies it. For strawberries, it will diminish the sweetness and some fruits but sugar and salt are increased in taste when frozen.
Man... my grandmother always sold these when we was younger.. she used to chase us around the house with the slippers because we would get caught eating them all! Lol. Best part was always the top part and the bottom of the icy..
Men I haven't had a limber in years. I definitely will try to make this. Any chance you would make videos with other flavors? Especially Frambruesa. LOL
No es que sea diferente, es que esta es la receta original auténtica. Mi abuela los hacía y recuerdo ayudar a sacar el coco y exprimir la tela (cheesecloth) para sacar la leche.
Dios mio mi mami que en paz descanse...asia limber y lo bendia a 50 cents a cup....i used to always sneak some.......bendito i should have told her.....thank you sooooooooo much for this video.....you made my day......
Thank you so much for this recipe! Is this like helado de coco that they sell in the streets? If not then do you have a recipe for that? It's more of an ice cream than an icee.
