I grew up in the Bronx, NY and was trying to describe this treat to my wife. I was telling her this was one of my fondest memories as a child, buying these from a local street vendor. I couldn't rember the name. Thanks for posting the recipe!
This is exactly how my granpa used to make it and how I grew up eating it as well. Thank you so much for taking me back to PR and the beautiful memories of my home. ❤
wow mi abuela in puerto rico use to sell these along with the tamarind and peanut butter and cherry. She use to have the tamarind plants in the back of her house along with a deep freezer in the kitchen. I miss her and this brought back memories going to the island every so often just to help her make them and sell them all while eating my limber.....
I did it last week. It was so incredibly delicious!!! We have it very, very hot in Germany right now and it was the perfect refreshment! Thanks a lot and regards from Germany!
Wow I have been smiling this entire video.. my entire childhood came back to me. I can't lie... Living upstairs from old Puerto Rican womanade for amazing eating. She always sent food upstairs. She is who taught me to make rice and beans, and yellow rice. So lucky for me I don't have to make it from a box. I can enjoy authentic
im so thankful to find your videos, im Puerto rican as well but not really in tune with my culture, i rep PR through and through but sadly i don't speak Spanish lol my grandfather and his side of the family do though. This is a great way for me to find authentic and traditional Puerto Rican dishes and pass them on through my family and to get a taste of where i come from :) thanks for sharing all of your videos. by the way, i used your recipe for Mofongo the other day with some arroz gandules and i fried some platanos to have on the side, AMAZING!
Wonderful...! Piragua, Limbers, and Helado de Coco all rivet my childhood memories. I was born and come from Manhattan, on the Lower Eastside, some family lived in El-Barrio, etc. I lived in the Bronx for years, worked in Brooklyn, and you could find all of these in those areas! My children also partook of this in their childhood... Thanks so much for keeping these traditions alive!
I've been living in the Bronx the vast majority of my life. What you said about some lady selling limbel in the neighborhood is so true, and it brought back faint memories of my childhood. I love limbels. I bought two coconuts today, and I will be trying this recipe tomorrow morning. Thank you, very much.
Omg!!! You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to find Abuela’s limber!!! She always did it in the ice trays, and the LAYERS is how I knew abuela made it. Ahi in the kitchen toasting the coconut to crack it open! 😂 thank you!!! 🙌🙌

I think it must be what we could get in Old San Juan and sold in tiny paper cups by street vendors. Like a sherbet, sorbet type of consistency but creamy too. SO GOOD!
Man... my grandmother always sold these when we was younger.. she used to chase us around the house with the slippers because we would get caught eating them all! Lol. Best part was always the top part and the bottom of the icy..
Whenever I go home, my sister takes me to a friend who makes this delicious dessert. Is she has another type that has a flavoring that looks like it might be red. This is so good
