    April 19th, 2018. Oxnard airport.
Team Aviation F/X and Russ and Eric McFarland bring you the World Recordfor time to climb to 10.000' in 1'40" from brakes release. The aircraft is a modified Harmon Rocket powered by a massive Wankel rotary engine boosted to 650hp. The McFarlands are expert promoters of the Wankel rotary engines and this latest exploit is the culmination of a brilliant research and development project that lasted years.
SPECIAL THANKS to Paul Lamar for his invaluable expertise on Wankel rotary engines, that made this feat possible trough relentless research and dedication.
Please visit www.aviationfx.net or www.theclouddancers.com to get more information about rotary applications for experimental aviation as well as to know what we can do to make your experimental aircraft faster, smoother and more efficient.
    Thanks for watching!

Love the sound of that Rotary... great to see the Wankel engine showing that it can be a great platform as an aviation engine! I thought it was great watching the altimeter try to keep up with that insane climb! I am anxious to see what Geiger does with their new rotary aircraft engine! I think with the water cooled rotor in their design that it will greatly improve the Wankel engine and make it more suitable for aircraft use! I think it is a brilliant engine design and if certain elements are improved will make an excellent aircraft engine!

@@sandervanderkammen9230 As far as I know they have not applied for certification and were still in development. I have not seen anything recently, which is very disappointing... and see they were pushing forward with Electric motors etc. Originally, I was under the impression they were still working on the design to use as a generator for the batteries of their electric motor setup. I really hope they continue the development and move forward with EASA certification, but as a majority of the promising aviation engine designs go, this clever design may fall by the wayside. If you look further into what Geiger was developing, you would find they were resolving a lot of the shortcomings the Wankel engine has experienced with liquid cooling the rotors and a few other tricks. The company has developed quite a few interesting products... however the Geiger-Motor.de website now forwards to another one of their companies.

Gas Turbine engines are superior in every way, Wankel engines are inherently unreliable and cannot be used in type-certified passenger aircraft.

Awesome use of a forgotten engine. This little guy screams! And it is extremely light compared to other engines in its HP range. Imagine if this technology had been available during WWII. Larger displacement, supercharged, multi rotor engines could have kicked the asses of any other internal combustion engine at the time!

Would you guys please stop commenting about the music. Turn the volume off.
You really don't get the importance of breaking this record? This is 1 minute 40 seconds! The last record I remember was 2 minutes and 5 seconds in a stripped down Yak 3U military aircraft. This is what power to weight ratio is all about man. This is beyond way cool. You have a 650 HP rotary engine that is probably light enough for a guy to pick up.
    C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S ! ! !
Did you guys try Supercharging? I wonder if you might be able to shave some time off the new record you set by doing that? Can you comment on the weight of the aircraft? Did you use any composite materials? Is the Prop anything special? Is the engine a 2 rotor 13B? The engine banned at Lemans because it is an unfair advantage is knocking off some more records.
THIS IS SUPER COOL / AMAZING!!!
