Videos like this should have no music at all. I'd like to say something positive about the flight but it is the video that gives access to the flight and the video is so painful that it nullifies any positive impression I would otherwise have.
Love the sound of that Rotary... great to see the Wankel engine showing that it can be a great platform as an aviation engine! I thought it was great watching the altimeter try to keep up with that insane climb! I am anxious to see what Geiger does with their new rotary aircraft engine! I think with the water cooled rotor in their design that it will greatly improve the Wankel engine and make it more suitable for aircraft use! I think it is a brilliant engine design and if certain elements are improved will make an excellent aircraft engine!

I have not seen anything recently, which is very disappointing... and see they were pushing forward with Electric motors etc. Originally, I was under the impression they were still working on the design to use as a generator for the batteries of their electric motor setup. I really hope they continue the development and move forward with EASA certification, but as a majority of the promising aviation engine designs go, this clever design may fall by the wayside. If you look further into what Geiger was developing, you would find they were resolving a lot of the shortcomings the Wankel engine has experienced with liquid cooling the rotors and a few other tricks. Sandervan has no idea on how record attempt classifications . This record was set for the class of time to climb, to 3000 meters. No it never beat the Speed over Ground, like RareBear or other turbo props have.
Quentin Carter airspeed is only 90kts and the cowling would have to be huge and heavy to envelope that massive engine and cool it down properly...so it turned out to be more efficient to just let it be naked! :)

Wankels are cool but they will never be a practical engine for mass production again. Too fuel inefficient and too polluting by design. They definitely have some advantages but fuel efficiency and pollution control are king.
Sounds rough as hell on approach neater the less I think i could knock 15 seconds off that time. Few little aero tweaks and my 62 kilo body and single seat experience. What exactly is the airplane? Rv1 or stitts playboy? Or am I way out?

It was calculated that at the best speed of climb, the reduction in drag wouldn't justify the weight increase. Also, we think it looks more badass with the cowl off!

Cryptodoc all of that is unknown, the aircraft was never tested in cruise! :) However it climbs at 90 knots, 60 degrees of pitch, burning 6 gal of ethanol in a 2 min climb and 6 min glide ;)
I would love to hear about the other performance numbers. Truly impressive. I fly a 58 - C180 with O-520. I flight plan my climb at 0.2 (12 min) to 10k 4.5 gallons.

It would have been even more interesting if we didn't have to do the math ourselves. In any case, the ship was climbing just a wee bit faster than 6,000' per minute. The only other piston powered aircraft that is faster that I can recall (and I could be wrong) is the Grumman F8F Bearcat that set the same record in 1946 (94 seconds at 6,383 fpm). Obviously, this record was set in a different and smaller class but it's still nothing less than an amazing feat.
