- I recently received some Sennheiser HD 400S headphones from work and thought I'd make an unboxing and review video.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with them. The sound quality is as great as you'd expect from Sennheiser and they're very comfortable.
A couple of downsides such as no volume controls on the remote and I'm not keen on the locking mechanism of the cable.
Overall a very decent set of headphones for both music and calls.
This is a really good review, not bad for 12 subscribers.

right about the bass, it's weak when I plug it into my pc windows 10 realtek it lacks bass compared to my android any fixes?
If they're sounding fine on your phone I'd guess it's something to do with your audio settings on your pc. Try them in a few other devices to rule out any issues with the headphones.
Thanks for telling me how the headphones are, and not the exact hyperdecimal of the drop off on the treble frequency at 9663 hz. Simple review, I like it.
Thanks for the review. I have a pair of these, well one is missing a cable. They're pretty good actually. Here's your challenge though.... find a replacement cable as Sennheiser aren't stocking them and haven't found a compatible one from Ebay or Amazon! 👍😔
Just had a search and I cant find a replacement either. Perhaps the HD 4.30 cable will work. It looks exactly the same (difference being that is has volume controls.. which may or may not work with the 400S)

Is Sennheiser hd 400s better than Audio Technica m40x? Please someone answer my question
the sennheiser hd 400s is multipurpose, meaning you can take calls with them, and they are also more travel friendly. The ath m40x is mainly for studio mixing and mastering, and is not really that portable, and does not have a mic. The audio quality of the m40x is far superior to that of the hd 400s. It all boils down to the purpose behind why you're buying these headphones. I know its a bit late but hope this helps anyone reading this.

Can you use any standard 3.5mm jack for these headphones? Just wondering because of the locking mechanism
So you mean replacing the cable with a different one? I don’t see why not. It just would t lock into place. It should still ‘click in’ to the jack as normal though.
Good video. Is the socket on the R cup 2.5mm or 3.5mm, i.e are you capble replacing the lead with your own lead (TRRS to TRS = volume rocker lead or blutooth receiver in via the headphone cup socket). Thanks

Good review man. How has it held up over time?
I still use them daily and they’re good as new. Sound is perfect. Cable and cups show no signs of wear. Maybe I’m just extra careful but they’re the quality you’d expect from sennheiser

I think they’re very well balanced. I use these headphones for monitoring when I’m making music and they help me achieve good results.

@@jair8229 hey i just got the headphones yesterday and i can really tell you that they are SO comfortable but after a while they might hurt your ears a little bit which is pretty normal, every headphone would do that no matter what brand they are. And for your question I'm not a professional gamer but I played some games with it and the sound was pretty good I can recommend it since it's more affordable than the gaming headphones and the mic works perfectly the sound is pretty okay and yeah I don't see a bad side of these headphones I can say that you can buy it without even thinking they worth the price.
and I purchased the JBL bt500 headphones before this one and they had a problem some sound was coming from the background so i tried to return it but they didn't accept it, I still had a time to try them out and to be honest they weren't comfortable at all. the big headphones like sennheiser are so much more comfortable and I don't recommend getting bluetooth headphones because they make your wifi super slow for some reason
Nice and informative, btw may i ask compare to hd250bt vs hd400s (or maybe also with audio technica ath m30x) in these 2 or 3 which are more good for only casual use for listening music or video? Thanks 🙏🏻
Might have to try these out since they aren't all that much I just want to test the sound quality first of sennheiser before dropping over $200 on some of their more popular buds and headphones
It’s all subjective of course but sennheiser are my favourite brand of headphones. This pair is still going strong 3 years later

Hi. How do you think the ergonomics of this headset in long use? Does it cause pain in the ear and head? Are you satisfied with the long performance in the phone and computer (with sound card) performance?
Orhan for me personally they’re good. I often keep them on for around 2 hours of continuous use without any pain or anything, and as mentioned in my review, I’m a glasses wearer and they’re still comfy. Comfort is a very personal thing though.

Could anybody help me with the locking mechanism? I can't seem to lock the jack into place.
Dávid Pap yeh I struggled too. Just line up the pins on the cable and push it in further than you think it goes then turn clockwise.

Very good review, well presnted. One point; NO volume control in-line?...what was Sennheiser thinking of?...that is vital on any headphone...an example, I'm afraid, of PPDesign......no sale from me.
Absolutely agree. Such a vital thing that has been left off. If you're using these while at your computer it's not too much of an issue as you're most likely changing volume from the computer but for mobile use (especially if running), having a volume control is essential.
Actually in-line volume control using variable resistor can cause noise so i think they don't

It's been almost a year since your review. Can you tell me how's ths build quality holding up, especially the hinge?
They still feel brand new to be honest. Been used almost every day since I got them (less during covid-19 lockdown). Hinges are all good. Ear cups have retained their shape. Sound quality is the same and mic is working perfectly.

Of course. As long as your PC has a 3.5mm headphone jack
Ajay Karwal It has a mic input and an audio output separately but i solved this problem with a diy splitter including an omtp ctia switch. This way i can use both standards. I hope it will work as microphones have differences even in the same standards. My Beats EP did not work properly. Audio was fine, but the mic did not work even though i got that omtp ctia standard switch. Thank you for your quick response, i wish you luck with your channel.

Pamela García in terms of sound I’d say yes. Great dynamic range and enough noice cancellation to make a game immersive.
As for the mic....maybe.
Most gaming headsets have a mic which sticks out and sits in front of your mouth. This one is on the cable so may not be as clear.

I bought them a week ago and they sound a bit quiet when i plug into pc jack but when i use usb connector it sounds much more better.Do you know the reason? And i can't get the mic working on pc but it works on ps4

Sup ajay. Had already liked your vid, great review. One question only, how is the treble and mid quality compare to bass. I mean, i had read somewhere that Sennheiser product is quite bad at bass but their mid and treble are all good.
Hey. I'd say its pretty well balanced, and if anything maybe a little bass heavy
how is the mic quality? I am comparing this to beats ep. Is is clear for zoom calls. thanks for the great video.
The mic is absolutely fine for zoom/skype calls. At 4:35 in the video, I switch the audio to record from the built in mic.
Of course it doesn't compare to the quality of an external mic (I use a Blue Yeti) but it's good enough.
I have a pair of Beats Solo 2, and i'd say the Sennheiser is better.

Possibly one of the worst Sennheiser headphones I’ve ever tried. It must be a fake, as my $30/- Motorola headphone sounded far superior to it. Please don’t buy.
