Enjoyed the latest video you done thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much for replying to my comment. It's nice to see other people's work to get idea to improve my Channel. Take Care & Stay Safe.
I've been making liberal use of cat litter this week. Get the really cheap nasty stuff that's mostly dust, sieve it, and the dusty bits make great gravel and ballast, while the big bits make good small rocks. I've been making drystone walls out of air-dry modelling clay with the big bits of cat litter glued to the surface.
Hello, everybody! So, I went with the simple cut pieces of paper to use as road markings, as even though they are far from perfect, they are easy to remove at a future point if I want to redo them!
Another issue I had was the general lack of any kind of street structure when I originally planned the layout, so whereas I'd hoped to have a little roundabout with the fountain, it doesn't fully fit in anywhere because of the narrow streets and staggered junction by the station!
Anyway... I am hoping the layout will be completed within the next 3 weeks!!!
Lots to do and discus!
Thanks for watching!
Looks great Dan. The fountains add a really nice touch.
on my oo gauge railway I used the roofing material for sheds as a road surface. I think it made a good effect.
I need to try this method when I make more roads, it looks brilliant mate!
All a learning curve, looks great!
The 3D look is great....the school is an ideal centre piece....well done
Great progress Dan trust me though, a layout is never finished. I am so pleased you still have the model railway bug.
Haha yes! I'm thinking of a miniature novelty railway project after this one, before setting about on a new big project!
Yep try this and that see what works remember its a hobby have fun.
Looking good Dan.
Your layout looks good to me. I think you are right to try different techniques and to see what works best for you. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.
It was worth a try to imitate asphalt using the saw dust-ish powder (I use this material myself only for ballasting (lik you did) and for some parts of gras spots - it is perfect, if you wanted to built the floor of a forrest (use brown material, it will look like old leaves). If you want to carry on using the saw dust material, here's a advise: you can put the material onto the surface and carefully bring on a mixture of water & pva glue (with a tiny amount of dish soap, which will make the mixture more fluid)- use a dropping glass, which you have t hold directly over the saw dust blanket. The saw dust will suck up the mixture totally and be glued to the spot. However: Your road doesn't look bad; sorry, but I like it (without the stripes)!
Concerning the street: I don't know, with kind of effect you've intented to create. The most easy way to create a asphalt street is the paint the ground in grey colours (it is important to variate the grey colour, but not to extrem - use a hard brush and dab the colour). If you use this method, it is easier to paint stripes / use paper stripes!
All the best from Germany!
Valentin
Thanks, yes I think I have learned a lot from this first road attempt, definitely worth a try... but would have been better off trying a larger practice area (off the layout!) instead of just beneath the school!
Very nice looking layout and I really like little park. Some benches and people would be good 👍🏻
Thanks, yes I'm not sure why but the park really came out well for such a simple feature!
@@SortOfInterestingTrains looking forward to seeing farm area update 😀
Great video Dan. I would say the road turned out pretty good looks quite realistic. We all learn from our mistakes it what makes us a better railway modeler and a better person. - Nicholas.
Thank you! Yes these last few months of building have taught me a huge amount!
Lumpy bumpy patchy Road. Very realistic lol as the state of the roads these days are exactly that lol. Just a thought a small fence would be good to separate the tracks from other areas
I had the same issue with the white lines, so I got rid if them and am much happier. The path looks great mate
Thanks, yes I definitely feel like the lines might not be in their final condition!
Looking great Dan! Love the park, it really blends the urban and rural area well! The road surface looks good on video, but you know what they say, we're our own worst critics haha. Thanks for the video!
Where did you purchase the brick walls? All the things you are adding to your layout is making it look amazing! I never thought about white paper for road markings. Again you are teaching me something new every video. I wish I had a way to show you my layout my friend. Keep up the amazing progress and I agree with others I feel like the road looks very good. Keep up with the videos! And if there is a way to donate I’d love to
Thank you! I looked on eBay and found more of the walls and gates, they are from “scenecraft” but they are expensive, £12.95 for a tiny section!
Sorry if this is a dupe (comment's gone?) I suggested adding a "market square cross" for your middle-of-the-road fountain. I saw plenty while in the UK that were awkwardly placed in the middle/along-side streets.
Ah that's an idea! Thanks for the comment, I did see the original but when I went to click on it there was nothing there!
I was about to make a similar suggestion, they were used for horses to drink from in the days when they were the main for of road transport
good job looks good keep up the good vid on the layout thanks lee
Thanks, I'm hoping it will only be a matter of a few weeks until this layout is complete!
For the roundabout, you may just try putting one or two vehicles in it to show traffic going around. It might save you some more headaches with the lines. I really like how the overall layout looks!
Thanks! I've just got to make sure the farm area in the centre doesn't look too bare now that the edges are full of life!
Hi Dan. I was at the London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace on Saturday morning. I saw a gentleman in a face mask and I wondered whether it might have been you.
Sadly not, sounds like this sort of place I would have loved to be!
You should get a class 08 or a pannier as your next loco. They’re both small and very nice
If you want a roundabout why don't you cut a circle out of a4 paper from the outline of a mug and to make the road surface stronger could yo just spray over the top with water or some spray glue keep it up and thx for the video
can you help me out please? i am not a constant youtube watcher but coming back to it I have lost where you were with the n scale side of things - I know you built a lot of n scale models but what is the latest on where these are in a layout (I have a n scale model layout - insufficient room for oo).
Hello, I have been moving on and off boats over the last few years, so I had to draw the previous layouts to an end… saving all the models and track etc. a lot of what is on this layout is from my previous layouts… only this time it has actually managed to get to completion!
I think this should be fully finished in the next few weeks!
@@SortOfInterestingTrains thank you
if you're gentle, couldn't you paint a white marking around the fountain?
Yes, I think in hindsight I would have cut a spare bit of tarmac out to put the fountain in and has a safe base to try some freehand painting. Another lesson for the future!
@@SortOfInterestingTrains it's all about learning from mistakes in this hobby! And to be fair I don't think I would have thought to make a safe base either lol
What is your accent?
Hello, this is a Shropshire accent, but one that is right on the border with Wales!
