I just completed this project and would like to suggest the following tips: 1) 1 row of the blocks that form the base of the bench should be half (4 in. wide) blocks. This will make the bench equal to standard chair height. A base with a height of 3 regular blocks won't allow the average person (especially shorter people) to be able to comfortably rest their feet on the ground. 2) The blocks that form the backrest should have the flat side meet the base, so that more surface area with adhesive can bond the backrest to the base. 3) Adhesive definitely works, provided you use the right one. I use Sika landscaping block adhesive and the bond is super strong. However, if you are still weary of safety, you can use 4" c-clamps to reinforce the joint between the backrest and bench. 4) Three 4x4s are enough for the seating (5 total). The 4th one for the seating isn't really necessary unless you plan to use cushions for the backrest (to keep the pillows from falling through). 5) Use the best side of the lumber for the surfaces of the bench. Sides with splinters will slowly tear up your cushions.
Great advice.. Thank you! I do agree with the height issue.. It's a little high, but it does the job. The glue I used was great as well. Extremely strong. Thanks for sharing!
HM L Thank you!!!
HM L. Hi can you please share us you project to see how it look ! Thank you
Very helpful, appreciate these great tips very much, thanks!
You wouldn't have splinters if u followed his directions and sanded the wood !
Used cinder bricks for all kinds of furniture back in the day longer than dirt ago. But it’s fun, cheep And someone always had them to give away or buy at store. Miss some of those days.
Love it, fast sturdy, economical, and cute. Who could not like this video. Thanks
This is the best Idea for outdoor sofa I have ever seen!! its awsome!! thank you
Cinder is a material that hasn’t been used since the 1920’s. Cinder blocks looked black/dark grey in color. Blocks today are made of concrete and fly ash. With that being said, this was a very simple and cool idea.
It really looks like a professional bench you bought. The grey color is universal to ANY patio or deck.
My mom loves your bench she said it's Radically Awesome!!! So now I'll be building her one. Thanks for the great idea.
...can u make a video?!?! Especially if u do something different than what he showed us. 🤗🤗🤗
This was a wonderful tutorial! The basic plan is I am sure height adjustable. Thanks for taking the time and for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
@@acreativetraveler783 hi what kind of glue did you use
It’s a silicone adhesive. There is a link in the video description.
Very practical, modern, yet earthy-rustic. I am doing me one. Happy holidays.
Awesome! To you as well.
Wow,amazing workmanship so.Simple and uncomplicated outdoor sofa.❤👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks!
I love this bench, I will build it this weekend
I can't wait to make a few of these.
Definitely trying this during the weekend
My late Spring project; thanks for sharing!!!
I absolutely love UA-cam! You guys are creatively inspirational. The only thing I would've added is something on the underside of each end like rubber or felt strips to prevent the concrete on concrete scraping.
I used marine mat carpet tiles. (rubber on one side, synthetic weave on the other)
Well, 2 years have gone by. Have you made one of these yet?
Great job I love the final scene, relaxing after a hard day of work, too funny. I’m sure your family was pleased.
Brave man to move all those blocks in bare feet. NICE.
Brave ??, not so much, stupid- oh yeah.
Hell YESS! I have a bench in the back yard now I need to complete but this is wayy better
Good idea 👍❤️
Excelente trabajo!!!!!
Muy inteligente y practico. Felicitaciones!!!!👍
AWESOME JOB, I can’t wait to try this!
Wow... beautiful
love it!!! easy & simple. tq 🥰
Cool! I would take it a step further and cover the seems between each block with cement, then paint, so it looks like one solid piece. Nice work!
That’s a great idea actually 😉
@@acreativetraveler783 I'm watching your box video now - to go under the seat. lol Love it!
Thanks!
Nothing says comfort like sharp rugged edges of concrete blocks.
And raised up so high that your feet dont touch the ground lol
magnumxlpi
Not to mention when Little Susie Q and Bobbie joe fall down and open their skull on the corner of the Big Comfy Couch. lol
Great idea. Thanks for the video
Doing this with my son. Thanks!
Wow, thats awesome , i'm in the UK and definitely will be making one of these....great job dude
+David Robinson Thank you! Enjoy!
Hey how did you manage and what was the overall UK cost? Thanks!
THANKS FOR SHARING!!! 💕💕💕💕💕👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽BLESSINGS 😎💕🙏🏾
So beautiful and it looks so comfortable. Thank you for sharing this beautiful idea.
About as comfortable as a wood bench with pillows on top and literally a cinder block on either end
Love it ...so simple ❤️💕❤️💕😇
I’m going to try this around my fire pit
Awesome! Enjoy!
Wow....this is so amazing and easy. I love it
Excellent dude.
Amazing. What type of wood would you recommend?
I think Douglas fit or cedar is fine. But and 4x4x8 wood posts would work. As long as you brush on a couple coats of a protective finish, it should last a very long time.
I'm gonna do this 👍🏾
Nice and easy
Adorei este banco. De todos que tenho visto é o que mais me agradou. Vou fazer aqui em casa. ( Rio de Janeiro, Brasil 🇧🇷)
That's a great idea!! I love it! ❤🌎
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck it i am making a couple of them today. Barbecue, drink and enjoy the day making them with family and friends. I love the fact that you can move them around by yourself. Great job and thank you for the excellent idea. Cheers from Texas! 🍻
That's Kool and thanks for sharing with us all 😄 👍 great idea out door sitting
Very innovative.
I love your video! How strong is the glue that holds the blocks together?
Than you! The glue is very very strong. Blocks won’t budge after using it.
super jolie
very nice 😎
Thats awesome
Great job!
Very clever
love this! what color paint did you use for the cinder blocks?
I think it was called “cement gray”
Eu amei essa idéia pro meu jardim
Don't know if anyone else addresses this, but: The 8' lengths on those 4x's = a whole helluva' lot of customization.
If you cut 'em down by 1/2 lengths, Voilà!, you have a Loveseat. Or cut the lengths down even further & you have yourself your very own THRONE! 😎
👏🏼
@@acreativetraveler783 - - loved your idea, instantly Liked & Sub'd. Cheers to you from Aurora, Colorado!
Much appreciated 😉
ha! i love the throne idea
Beautiful! Enjoy :)
Love it about to give it a try today!! Ty for the idea!!
Amazing what you can do with cinder blocks - cheap weights
Всё гениальное просто ! ☺👍 Мне понравилось .
Hermoso!!
I am looking forward to trying this piece in my backyard. You did an amazing job! It looks great! What type of bonding glue did you use?
+Janiesha Hill Thanks so much! Iron Grip Silicone adhesive is what I used. All materials are in the description
I apologize, I missed the description. Thanks!
+Janiesha Hill No prob at all!
So cool
I love the way this turned out! I want to try this, but my question to you is, did you have a hard time finding cushions to fit or did you buy your cushions first and made the bench to fit the cushions? ::D Sorry if the question is dumb...this will be the first time I will be trying this.
They are pretty standard size cushions. The ones I got are outdoor cushions from Ikea. I actually did the bench first then found cushions later. Enjoy!
@@acreativetraveler783 Thank you so much for responding so quickly!! You did an awesome job. Hope mine looks just as nice. Have a blessed weekend.
No prob. Thanks for watching! Take care
I like it!
Looking good man, I have pretty sizeable slope by my backyard firepit and I think this may be the seating solution if I can just bury some of the bottom cinderblocks at grade. Did you use pressure treated 4x4s or just standard posts with the poly to protect it from weather damage?
That’s a great idea for a sloped area. I didn’t use pressure treated. Mine is on a covered porch. Doesn’t get much rain or direct sun. So I just did standard with a couple coats of poly. Has held up great!
Que criativo,gostei. Parabens.👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Nice video. I want to do this in my backyard. Can you tell me what type of glue your using
There is a link in the video description 😉
@@acreativetraveler783 Thank you
...aaand black widows. I love the whole thing and you remind me of my sons. I've been around for 70 years and I have noticed something about cinder blocks and black widows. If you build it...they will come. If there was some way to seal the spaces around wood. I would constantly check those cushions. Just sayin'.
....Spiders?! 😲...No No No No!
Right. They Love Bricks Too!
Love that
Thanks nice technique thanks again
Love it!
Excelente, gracias por su vídeo.
Feliz año 2020( 1 de Enero 2020)
God bless.
Wow amazing - Question how heavy are the bricks once they are glued. can you move them around easily ? thanks
The bases are fairly heavy once glued together. You would definitely need two people to move each. Or you could use some sort of dolly with wheels.
Wow :) I just search for ideas for small balcony in the city...but, think this will be very useful.
I planned to build a fence (for some privacy feeling :) )from wood and didn't know which furniture to make. I have some pallets to use, but this idea seems some much better.
Thanks for your video, I'll also film my balcony renovation, so be free to watch :) :)
+Andrea Aralica Glad you like it! I am very very happy with the way the bench turned out. Also, check out the cinderblock planter I did as well if you haven't already. The two together really made my small patio look amazing. Enjoy your project! I'd love to see how it turns out 😉
love it
Great idea man. Good job 👍
So suprised you didnt spill that poly, running around like you were. Nice job.
DOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tudo de bom
Simples
Prático, móvel
Lindo e baixo custo e maravilhoso
Nice!
The last block is bad oriented at first ;)). I've ever seen such a bench but your realisation is quite good. great job. Thanks.
just see the correction ;)
Muito criativo parabéns
Me encantó.
Perfeito 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Genial
Good job
Bro what are the odds I was looking up cinder block bench and I know the guy? What's up man how you been!
+Treyzilla Lol.. Pretty funny. Been great man! How about you?
Love your videos! Thanks
+Connie Garcia Thanks so much!
Vou querer um desse ❤❤
Great vid. Are there wider options for the wood to not have huge gaps if sitting without cushions?
I don’t think a typical hardware store would carry thicker wood posts. However, you could put plywood over the top and back posts to make a smooth surface. Or maybe you could find smaller pieces to go in between the spaces from the posts.
@@acreativetraveler783 thanks for the suggestions!
No prob. Thanks for watching!
What kind of glue is that?
Great job🤗 how much did it cost to make? Thanks
Probably around $60 for the wood and blocks. What will make it expensive are the cushions. I bought mine from Ikea. They are outdoor/ weatherproof cushions and they aren't exactly cheap (can't remember the exact price). However, they look great and they really last.
Dowels or pegs to hold boards in place.
So simple freaking awesome.
+HappyEarthling VLOGS Much appreciated 👍🏼
That’s pretty cool 👍might make one
Cool
Muy lindo !!!!
Nice bench I'll make one for my house in the Philippines when they finish it
Wow! I can do this! And I will thank you! 😀
@aCreativeTraveler awesome, quick question how did you close the holes on the bricks?
I didn’t close any of the holes. The bricks are just turned in a way that exposes some of the holes where the wood would be. So the bottom ones lay flat and are stacked and the top ones that will hold the wood are on their sides. Hope that makes sense.
Perfect for me!!!
It works.. 🤔
So cool ♥️
I want this🤗 Watch me go to Lowes and find that one cinderblock is $19.99 🤣 (and I need 20😳)
Not expensive
I saw them at home depot and Lowes for $2. :) I was worried about that too. The wood is the most expensive and I found that for about $10 a piece
They're usually like a $1
