He proved himself to be a subtle and sensitive actor...he could express so much with his face, slight movements of the head, hands, a turn of shoulder...he is brilliant.
D'onofrio is an amazing actor. His performances are very powerful. I am quietly drawn into his scenesI love the chemistry between Erbe and D'onofrio. They are my favorite detectives.
One of my favorite scenes is when they were going to raid a house & he plays a mailman to see if the house is vacant. He's in the shorts & the sunhat. He has headphones on listening to music ,& does this little dance jig. It's so quirky, just like his character ! It's so cute..
I'm police and he's the best investigator and the interviewer I ever saw. Really good approach.
He is so sweet during the interview! He seems to be such a kind, friendly and humble man. Today's celebs should learn from him!

Erbe were the ultimate partners in my opinion. She is beautiful ( but not affected like other female cops) & Vincent is a hunk! There is
not another show like it or a couple like them but all good things must come to an end.
Why did he leave?
I just love Vincent playing Goren, I enjoy how different he was interagateing his suspects. Love him!

His "Detective Robert Goren" character is so smart he makes Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot look like Lieutenant Frank Drebin and Inspector Jacques Closeau respectively.
Shows like Sherlock (or Dr.Spensor Reid on Criminal Minds) treat intelligence unrealistically, like a superpower. Goren felt more realistic, with a depth and character to how he was intelligent but a human, not a cartoon.

I've been watching Law and Order since the beginning in 1990. However, the very best was the Criminal Intent and it was because of Mr. D'Onofrio. When he left it really was the end. I agree with what he said about all the other great actors, too. He is such a talented but also an extremely unique actor. I could watch all of his stuff over and over...oh, I do !!!
Love L&O in all iterations but Mr D' Onofrio's Goren is the best, so deep and dark-torment and brilliance in equal measure. So satisfying whenever he...whenever he did anything as Goren. I wasn't glad to see him go. there were no bad episodes when he graced us with this character. I have seen every episode he was in many times and will continue to do so probably until i am in assisted living. He does not know how cool and great his work on this show is but we do!
I love Bobby. He was the best ever and I STILL watch reruns of Criminal Intent.
I like the fact that he is always taking notes and then later goes over all the details. He analyzes every piece of information. He is very insightful. His character is unique. He goes to the medical examiner, puts on gloves, and starts with his own hypothesis. It feels like watching forensic files.
I'm so glad I saw this and found out that I'm not the only one who feels like this about our BEST EVER Vincent D'Onofrio and I sure do hope he sees how many of us feel that this will not be the same without him. I am happy that he feels happy but I will miss him lots and probably won't watch the show any more when he is gone. " God I love that man......
I am a Law and Order fan. For me, Jack McCoy was it until recently. I decided to stream this series Criminal Intent and was blown away. I recognized him as King Ping and the comparison of the roles is truly awesome. Such a gifted actor -thank you for the experience Mr. D’onofrio!
Vincent is a great actor. And without a doubt the best " law and order" in the entire franchise. And that's mostly because his acting on that show is outstanding his film work and his " godfather of Harlem" character are all great. One of the best actors on screen.

LAW AND ORDER, CRIMINAL INTENT was the most brilliant show ever on TV. So brilliant and complex and subtle. After this, the LAW AND ORDER series couldn't compare. Nothing like this show. Hard to follow sometimes, until the endings.
I miss Criminal Intent so much, particularly the character played by Vincent D'Onofrio.

"joanie" says it all below here...I have watched countless times this great actor, especially the Law & Order, CI...along with Kathryn Erbe, aka, Eames. I fell in love with "Eames" instantly and will keep watching endlessly, the episodes. She is much more than such a knockout...but she is very beautiful, she has all these expressions and says much w/out a lot of dialogue. I know I sound like a young teen or something but I just hope she, and "Goren" know they will forever have a following...finest actors.
Well good, if being off the show makes him happy then good for him. He wants to explore other things life has to offer, he should do that. Live life to the fullest Vincent your fans will always love you and appreciate all the work you have done and we will watch for you in your next film. :)

After Law & Order, I've seen movie that Vincent D'onofrio was in and didn't know it was him, Till I heard he was in that movie, That what I call a great actor. You could tell he work hard at acting.He is a great actor.

I've never considered Criminal Intent to be in the same class as the others of the same name. It's far, far superior in so many ways n intelligently scripted. To me it's a totally different program. I even call it the Eames n Goren Show. Kathryn n Vincent work with their characters in a way that's streets ahead of the rest of the franchise, of which i don't watch. Their characters are different but understand eachother n play off eachother very well.
I've admired n adored Vincent D'Onofrio for many years ♥️. He can interrogate me, privately, at my gaff, any ol' time 😀😏!!
I like the Criminal Intent program. I liked the later episodes but I was sold on D'Onofrio's character Goren. His character was out of the box and I like that especially with TV shows. The programs come on once a week and in order to keep us watching they have to be out of the box. I know weekly TV is grilling and harder than a big screen movie..and all of them on this show were very believable; Thanks for the adventures and good luck with your next assignments

Still have all the episodes and watch them a couple times a week. I think the character that Mr. D"Onofrio created/played was an enduring and endearing character. I know that the rigors of doing a weekly television show did not agree with him and I have seen him do other interviews since this one where he clearly didn't love a lot about the experience. I think he was most heartfelt in this interview when he said he was happy to be leaving. It is hard as a fan to love the show and the characters so much, and yet know that the actor didn't really enjoy most of the experience and wouldn't want to do it again. I always wish they would do a 90 minute episode every once in awhile sort of like the "made for television movies of the 80's. but I know that will never happen. On his IG he often gets asked about doing the character again and he always politely says it will never happen. He said that no one would want to watch an old cop but I think he is wrong about that!!
I miss Bobby Goren. I keep hoping he will do a cameo on LOSVU like Eames has been doing. He's soil fine!! Hehe

The best detective programme I have ever watched and my God I have watched all of them, do know if it's the character or the actor. I 'broke down and cried' 😢when the series first finished, and when they did they did the few extra episodes I was glued to the tv, Iwatched all the re-runs on tv, I have the box sets - can't get enough of it. I WOULD LOVE TO MEET THE Actors. 😍😍😍😍

I definitly love criminal intent, and Vincent D'onofrio as Detective Goren. I also loved how Eames and Goren play off one another showed good team work. But Goren really intrigued me because this guy not only was incredibly smart, he also sufferered from mental health issues which was probably why he was able to close many cases surrounding that subject. Also this Character showed how profound it was to have all of this knowledge and the struggle, showing us that Genius is close to Madness. This was the most Amazing of the Law and Order Franchise.👍💜👍
