You're a tough cookie! Happy to hear you came through it all right. Very good of you to share these experiences for the benefit of visitors or temporary residents. Also finding your Arrondissements tours very informative; really well-researched and organized. Bien Merci!
OMG. I am so sorry you had to go through this trauma. Clearly the accident was what shook you to the core. As for the medical bills, honestly coming from the US, what you have quoted is reasonable. Even with insurance here, the copay would probably be higher than what you paid. I lived in Canada for awhile, so I know where you are coming from. But even there, to get good care I had to go private at times. I guess it's all relative. Knowing all of that, your hands are precious. Glad you took good care of it!
Glad you are safe! I drove in Paris in that area almost 30 years ago and it was definitely scary in a vehicle! Can’t imagine doing it while riding a bike!! YIKESSS!!!
When I visited Paris in 2021 I frequently took the bus from around Le Marais to Pont Mirabeau. I was in awe of the bus drivers who could navigate around place de la Concorde without hitting another vehicle. Whenever I went through it was total chaos. Can’t imagine riding a bike around there. Hope you have a quick recovery.
I had a similar break and keeping the cast in place is critical. I’m glad you’re going back for a check, too. I had to have surgery because it was too unstable, so you’re lucky! I live in the US and the urgent care doc also didn’t understand the break severity. Only after deciding to take myself to the orthopedic doc that I got the proper care. Good job advocating for yourself and the WhatsApp chat was a really smart idea by the doctor.
Very glad to know that you are okay and certainly understandable how traumatic that was. I am glad to hear that you're going to start wearing a helmet because, yes, you could have so easily gotten a concussion or TBI. One of my favorite jazz musicians, Melody Gardot, has shared her story many times about how a bike accident in Philadelphia, PA completely changed the trajectory of her life. It was her music therapy that lent her to playing the piano and becoming the beautiful musician she is today. But she has a lot to say about how unsafe biking in big cities can be and she sustained substantial life changing injury even wearing a helmet. The helmet saved her life. Look her up. You may even already know about her because she spends a lot of time touring in Europe and particularly in France. Best wishes and get well soon! 💗
Thank you for the lovely comment - yes it really does change your perspective when an accident like that happens... its so unfortunate that biking in big cities is such a problem... helmet gang forever now ! haha
You got by easy in terms of injury. I drove in Paris some years ago, right in the center, I can't imagine biking there. You could have had a terrible injury.
Hi Aria, I think you should not be biking in Paris anytime soon. It's not worth getting injured or hurt and like you said it could have been a lot worse. Heal up, feel better and be careful.
Thanks for the video 🙂 Did you report your mishap to the police? I'm surprised that the black car driving off was not considered a "hit and run" but I'm looking at it from an American perspective. I'm also surprised that nobody who saw it stopped and asked if you were OK. Paris traffic is unforgiving 🙁
So glad it wasn't worse. Your lucky to have only minor injuries . How's the mold hopefully your not there anymore. Mold causes cancer among other things.
I heard about a doctor riding his bike home and an animal ran out in front of him & caused him to topple over - thank goodness for a helmet!! Wear one please!
So glad you’re okay. Hands are critically important so take this very seriously and follow doctors orders. Americans won’t find these medical costs surprising, unfortunately. In Montréal, I couldn’t believe how narrow the streets are, and how people are just inches away from the buses speeding past their faces!
Please don’t take this comment as a criticism, but you might want to learn some defensive biking skills for riding in the city. That will come with practice possibly, but being very aware of the cars ahead and ready to adjust is a skill you can learn. You can also do things to make your presence more known and respected. Glad you’re getting a helmet, too. A broken head would be really expensive to fix. ;)
Did you report the doctor from the ER who was just going to send you home after looking at the X-ray? That was incredibly incompetent. Also I would be going after him since he sent you to a private facility without explaining to you that he was doing that. I am not famiiar with the French legal system but I would become very familiar with it in this case. You have been put in the position of paying for something that your insurance doesn't cover & nobody made an effort to keep you in the public system or to explain why they were sending you to a private facility. I wish you a speedy recovery. Also you might want to ask about physical therapy for your finger after the cast comes off.
Please do not ride a bike again in Paris even if you wear a helmet. It is extremely dangerous. A relative who was a doctor was riding his bike and was killed.

Wow, I’m so glad you’re ok and will be wearing a helmet. Scary!
I am sorry that happened to you. Glad you are ok and hope you heal fast. Your boyfriend seems to be a sweetheart. It is great you had his support.

Ouch! I’m glad you’re ok.

You were so lucky that things turned out well. So sorry this happened to you. Hugs
So glad you’re okay! Definitely could’ve been so much worse. Be safe out there!

Glad you are ok. Maybe the Metro would be a better choice?
Glad you’re feeling better, will you take the subway going forward?
Also literally marry your boyfriend lol what a diamond
That was uncomfortable to hear about. My good friend was hit by a car while on a bike. He died. I would totally stay out of those very busy areas.
So glad it wasn't worse. Your lucky to have only minor injuries . How's the mold hopefully your not there anymore. Mold causes cancer among other things.

24th resolution in 2023: Wear an helmet !😉
Very good idea
You are so lucky that you weren’t killed. That is a really scary story.

That’s the longest thumb I’ve ever seen. Definitely need to protect those long thumb digits from breaking or twisting.
Hi&Salut,Arielle! Did you take an immersion in Canada? If no,can any Anglo Canadians take a Francophone visa?
Wow glad you’re okay. Their Healthcare system definitely needs help, how horrible.
It’s a shame you didn’t get the black car’s license plate. They could go to jail for driving away from an accident they caused.
Please do not ride a bike again in Paris even if you wear a helmet. It is extremely dangerous. A relative who was a doctor was riding his bike and was killed.
Wouldn't the black car that hit you be considered as hit and run? The whole incident just makes me so angry
You should stop talking with the hand.
You really should try to keep it a stable as possible.
