I'm still rocking a base model M1 MacBook Air, because it keeps on chugging. These M processors are the best thing Apple has put out in awhile! My laptop barely moves from my desk, so I'm thinking of an M4 Pro Mini as my next machine and this certainly sways me in that direction.
Agreed. I went with a base M4 Mini on my desktop and a deeply discounted M1 iPad Air 5 (adding a Brydge-branded keyboard/case) for traveling. Since I am not a content creator and I don't make money on my Macs....this setup should last me 3-4 years, minimum.
I would recommend a mac mini or studio and a second hand m2 macbook air 8gb shared memory. Or even m1 macbook air or pro. Whichever you find a good price for in your area and whichever one suits your budget.
I purchased one of the first M1 mini's in 2020 and honestly it's handled everything I've thrown at it. The only thing it struggled a bit with was editing 4k video in Final Cut. I mostly make content for IG so working with 1080 wasn't a problem and it did pretty well there however the m4 model is INSANE, I can finally edit 4k video and it's been incredibly smooth even with optimizing for quality over performance. The M4 Mini's are hands down the best value for a personal computer on the market today. I went with the pro 14/20 core 24GB / 1TB combo. I know I know!
@@cigitipton3885 depends if you want efficient render and fast export. I would still be going for a Max chip with dual media engines. You cannot spec a PC for anything like the features you get at that price but as soon as you start buying upgrades the value tanks and you’d be better off with a Studio (so long as you don’t upgrade that hah). Honestly, if the Apple purchasing community actually came together and started a movement to get Apple to be more competitive on there upgrade prices I think they could win. If it went viral it could affect their share price.
My m1 MacBook Pro with 16gb struggles with Sony h265 10-bit 422 100fps. Wondering if the base model of the m4 mini could handle it (the Apple upgrade prices are exorbitant so it’s the base model or nothing)
I'd like to see a deeper look at the proper Thunderbolt 5 drives that you talked about, so there is no costly confusion for people. This is the first I've heard of this, and honestly I'm not clear on this yet. Thanks. Nice video, btw...I like your no-nonsense, straight to the point, no marketing or wasting time.
I've seen the T5 review of Acasis. It's very very good. My only concern would be heat but let's see. I'm planning to put an aluminum plate underneath my current T3 Acasis external but it doesn't really get that warm anyway. I think for pro's getting a T5 external is way way worth it.
I was thinking of doing the same thing, going from my M2 Pro base model which btw I find incredible as it handles heavy compositing and magic masking while having noise reduction on for sometimes 10 + clips and throwing even more stuff at it like more effects, more vertical duplicate clips on a timeline, more grading DCTL's and things like Look Designer 2, but I was wondering if you noticed a difference with renders, working on a Davinci timeline or FCP or Premiere timeline in comparison to the M2 Pro. I take my M2 Pro MM everywhere, but the form factor of the M4 Pro MM makes it all worthwhile for me but I wanted your impressions on heavier video tasks and on exporting times for whichever NLE you're using and if you noticed a difference in those with the M2 Pro Mac Mini. Thank you so much.
I just retired my 2019 iMac 27'' and got the Studio Display + Mac Mini M4 Pro. I got the base model but upgraded the hard drive to 1Tb. I didn't feel the price of the memory upgrade was necessary. In my case I mostly do Lightroom, Photoshop and a bit of DaVinci Resolve. My 2019 iMac is starting to show it's age and I needed a good upgrade. I'm happy with my decision! Great little work horse!
Just ordered one two days ago (after crowdfunding for it) to upgrade my MacBook Pro from 2019. Cant’ freaking wait! Though i am a bit worried that the Mac Studio may be cheaper for the specs i need and better. Worst case scenario i just sell this and get a Mac Studio or something 😂.
I just got the M4 pro model coincidentally tricked out exactly like yours. It’s replaced an M1 Mac Studio that was able to get enough on a trade-in to allow me to go all out on the new Mac mini. Very happy with it for music production.
Thanks Kyle! Great review. I decided to go back to a 16” and traded a 14” M3 12/18/18 for the 16” M4 16/20/24 and all I can say is Holy Smokes!! The M4 is not hype.
been using a 2019 MacBook Pro docked with external monitor for years now, and I think I'm finally going to upgrade to this. should be a HUGE leap forward.
All I can say is the M4 Pro chip is now a truly Pro chip now. The increase in Performance to Efficiency cores is great. I have updated (trade-in) to both the M4 Pro MacBook Pro and M4 Mini Pro, but I plussed up the MacBook Pro version the same as you did with the Mini, but went with the base Mini. Just my use case.. However, I did have a Thunderbolt hub with SD card reader and also now have a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure with a 2TB NVME drive attached. This is my primary Photo Editing and general use computer. The upgraded M4 Pro MacBook Pro is my field Video editing work horse. Then all I have to do next year is to upgrade my M1 Mac Studio to M4 Mac Studio. Waiting on that. to see what they release next year. But the M4 Pro chip is a real beast and finally what we have been wanting. I started with the M1 Mini and found that was not enough and within minutes of them announcing the M1 Studio, I did the immediate upgrade. It now has come full circle. :). Good review and good advice.
@@timbukstu Not really. There is no room for growth. Even the base SSD does not have enough to copy my current disk over to it. There are limits that are show stoppers for me. I have more than just basic computer needs, but if you are just a web surfer and emails, then it would be fine.
Those 3D printed case ideas are almost as incredible as your closers. If you decide to share your files or sell what you’ve already made, I’m totally into it!
Thank you. Very clear and a couple of new things. I have the same setup as you but maxed in out to 64 GB just to get as many years of life as possible!
I bought the base model. Then I moved the Home-folder to an external USB4 SSD with 2TB of storage. Whoopee... now you have a workhorse machine and have cheated Apple on their Apple-tax for storage. I get along fine with 16gb of ram. Important not to use the external harddrive as main startup as you will loose some functions doing that... just move the home folder. It's a bit tricky to do (but not difficult at all), but once it's done you have a crazy fast Mac mini with a huge storage hard drive and you don't have to think about ever moving things around. The main harddrive will only be used for the Mac OS. I use Hypers SSD USB4 enclosure which is crazy a fast 40gb/s external drive. This is by far the best solution if you want to keep costs down. My total cost for this setup landed on 920 dollars including tax. Buying this setup from Apple would've been 1969 dollars incl tax. I also sold my old Mac mini for 500 dollars, so what I payed in cash was 420. Pretty sweet! (Side note... I always shop from their education store since they never ever check if your're eligible ;) That also keeps the cost down.)
What's the speed and latency vs the local storage? I know you have a very fast external drive, but if latency is better on the local drive, it would be a better to keep your home directory on the local drive and perhaps mount other directories (documents, downloads, apps, etc). The reason being a lot of applications, utilities and tools read/write their config in your home directory as hidden/dotfiles, which in my case happens thousands of times a day. Another benefit is that your mac mini will work without the drive attached (depending on what other mountpoints you decide to have on the external drive).
@@atkr1 I'm not noticing any latency at all. The external is actually faster than the internal. Read 3200 mb/s and write is 2947 mb/s on the external. My Mac mini stays in one place so it won't be a problem for me, but I understand if it's inconvenient for people who moves it around. This is one way of doing it and I'm just giving a tip for people like me who wants to keep the costs down. I would never pay 1000 dollars for 2tb of memory. I have friends who has been using this "hack" for years and they've never experienced any problems :) And of course... use Time Machine in case of emergency ;)
This release and the forced update into Windows 11 next year is making me genuinely consider making the leap fully into the Mac ecosystem for video production.
@@falk000 I have a very long and historied list of reasons not to like Windows & Microsoft as a whole, but the comments section of this particular UA-cam video is not the place to get into my personal politics with that. I've been using Mac laptops for over a decade for work & travel and a custom built PC for my desktop solution, but my point is that I'm ready to full send into the Mac ecosystem for my work & personal life at this point in time.
@@northlorn Ah got it, well if you already have the devices and experience in the ecosystem moving to it sounds like a solid decision. @@tgs1766 When I configure Mac mini for the tasks I do, it makes sense to buy the Mac Studio. The cost difference is marginal at that point. You wouldn't be buying a specked out Honda civic when you need an Odyssey minivan.
I just put one of these in the shopping cart today on the Apple store website, (with the exact same configuration that you had). Looking to add the BenQ PD3225U 32 Inch monitor, and then retiring my 2017 iMac Pro.
Ive been a Mini fan since I bought my first Core2 Duo Mac back in 2009, I think. Was great for just about everything except anything that needed better graphics, like a big display or multiple monitors. That internal Intel GPU was garbage. So I sill keept getting Minis for my main desktop every couple of years, and FINALLY, with the M series, It is as good as the flagship MacBooks and iMacs, but only costs NZ$900. Base model storage is pretty lame, but getting a good Thunderbolt dock and a drive will sort that. Plus, I get to keep my display and storage every time I upgrade. 8) What I would suggest, for the cheapest possible setup, is to get a monitor with onboard USB2 ports, and you only have to plug that into one USBC port on the mini and still use all your existing USB2 accessories (because, TBH, if you are buying a Mini, you will probably have a ton of the old stuff)
I would appreciate a comparison of your Mac mini pro and Mac mini basic units along with your MacBook Pro on how well they handle different AI models with respect to RAM. Good video!
I think a clear-epoxy case to look like a G4 cube would be fun, although I'd want to be sure that there's plenty of airflow around the mini for cooling. I don't know if it would be easy to do, but just four sides (and no top) with two of those sides having a "mini-shelf" to hold the mini in place, holes for all the ports, and also a hole in the back for easy access to the power button would be very nice. I think. I suppose I'd have to see it in real life to know if it would look as good as it does in my imagination.
Thanks Kyle, this was a very interesting video. You are the first talking about real life difference between different type of disks (both internal and external) as well about your experiences with wireless connectivity. Thank you for sharing that with us. I immediately subscribed to your channel and I am looking forward to your future practical experiences with your Mac Mini M4 Pro. Nice config you have there, BTW ;-)
Im tempting to get 64gb instead of 48, the upgrade is relatively inexpensive and cost efficient if we compare getting extra 24 gb for 400 usd with extra 16 for 200. But total price if this thing on par with 1tb is going heavily into studio territory. What are your thoughts?
Video editor here cutting 45 min long multi-cam interviews on my 27" iMac late 2015 and really struggling with editing 4K video. Can't even update my OS to get the latest FCPX because apple removed that functionality on the old iMacs. I've decided that the M2 Max (64GB memory & 1TB storage) meets all my needs and is almost the same price as maxing out the new Mac Mini M4 pro. I edit everything off of my 4TB Samsung T7 SSD and will be using a studio display. I can't wait another 7 months for the new m4 max to be announced and feel like the M2 max will be more than enough coming from my intel based iMac. Is this a bad move? I know waiting for M4 studio will give more performance to price ratio, but I really need to upgrade now and don't want to have any regrets.
Not an answer, but as another point of reference you might be interested in Dave2D's review of the M4 Pro Mini (pretty sure it's the top processor with 48GB memory and 1TB storage, so 2199USD) where he compares it to his M2 Ultra Studio. Basically shows how he real-time encodes four 4K video streams and the M4 Pro keeps up. Not as fast as the Ultra, but still handles it with a little head room.
Omg, you can buy base model Mini as well. Maybe up that ram to 24 or 32 GB. It will blow your mind. Come one, youre working now on 9 year old machine. Dont spend too much, just upgrade new one after 4 years or so instead of 9 :D
@@filskar_ Good advice! I'm going to do that. So I don't need to look at the M4 Pro mac mini? A lot of people are telling me to get the base model of that because it's way better for video editors

Cheers Kyle. Looking to purchase my first Mac to be primarily used for photo editing. Originally had my mind made up on the M2 Max Studio but given it’s likely to be replaced next Spring, maybe the M4 Pro Mini is more than powerful enough to chug through 100 Mb files and multi layered PSD’s.
I sit my Mac Studio on an upturned bowl to raise it above the desk. This is to prevent the unit drawing in liquid if I tip a glass over. You could do the same with the Mini.
Hi! I was thinking about buying an M4 Pro 12 cpu / 16 gpu and 48 GB for 2300$ vs. an M2max 12/30 32 GB for 2085$ for editing in Davinci Resolve 4k videos. The price is approximately the same, only advantage for M2 Max would be paying it with 63$ per month for 2 1/2 years. Which one would you buy? It's a tough question for me for 1 month now :D
Kyle great video! I am getting a Mac Mini M4 1TB 24Ram. Since I cannot afford the Apple monitor I am getting an LG Oled TV 43 inches as a monitor, would you recommend this combination of equipment together, thanks!
Thanks for another great video, Kyle! What app are you using to monitor system resources? Looked like there was a blue menu bar dropdown with the circle graphs.
Hello what a great video. If I may ask about the fan noise. Will it be very audible during exporting or stitching panoramas in Lightroom? Also do you recommend the Mini over the Macbook Pro M4 Pro? I heard that the MBP M4P 14 inch has thermal issues? Maybe you have some information about? I mean do you feel that the Macbook Pro M4 Pro gets hotter faster or the Mac Mini M4 Pro?
honestly I could get threee m2s and be good for a while its literally like 15-30 secs in performance between both all 4 chipsets really not notciable if you edit all 4 run smooth but I deff think im getting this for the at home space and just keep the my m2 and m3 as travel and crash stations
Thank you! So, what would you recommend for a student graphic designer that uses mostly Ai, Ps, iD, often simultaneously? And what monitor, from a PC world ( to save money) would work better with mini? Thanks again
I have the base M4 mini because the Pro was overkill for my use case (and budget 🙂), but it is certainly drool-worthy. Thanks for the review, and I really want that typing app.
the best reviews on these machines out there. picked up a 14 inch M4 MacBook Pro last week. absolutely love it. Need to find an excuse to get a Mac mini now haha
Really appreciate the level of detail in your videos Kyle. Subbed ! Im just learning Final Cut Pro and felt the library, event, project nomenclature is baffling. The house server is a 2012 Intel mac mini and it only started lagging with long audio transfers in the last 3 years. Looking forward to the base M4 pro to replace it for another 10 years.
I do photography as a hobby & thinking about getting the m4 mini. Would the base m4 pro be overkill or would i be completely fine with the base m4 with 16g ram with the 512 ssd?
Nice video, thanks! Quick question: do you know, by any chance, or, perhaps, can test, how this Mac mini would display information, if connected to a 1080p monitor (as opposed to a 4K one)? Would downscaling to 1080p introduce any visual artifacts (e.g., poor visibility of text)?
Very interesting and well done video. What type of monitor do you recommend pairing to regular mac mini m4 for home and office works? Thanks from Italy! 😊
I'm going for the exact same configuration that you built, coming from the m1 macbook pro (the last one with a touchbar) with 16gb memory. It's gonna be a huge bump for lightroom, photoshop and final cut.
hi Alex - did you get the 48 gb and 1TB config? Wondering if you feel it is more than you need or just right? I also use LR and PS and debating to get the 24gb ram and 512. thanks mark
@ not yet. Still using a MacBook Pro with M1 (the last one with the touchbar), 16gb memory and 1tb. My only bottleneck is the 16gb for photoshop when editing big files. I need to close all the other apps to make it useable.
Great video, Kyle! Would a photographer using Lightroom, Photoshop, and some noise reduction apps like (Topaz Phot AI and DxO Pure Raw) benefit from having more memory and CPU/GPU, or the M4 pro base model would be okay?
Kyle thank you for the review. I purchased the Mac mini M4 pro with the 12 core cpu chip. When I encode a 4K MKV file to a .MP4 file using Handbrake (nothing else opened) on my new Mac mini M4 pro the CPU user runs at 93% when encoding a blu-ray MKV file it runs at 88%. Do you think upgrading the CPU to a 14 cores will that lower the user CPU percentage substantially? Also the fan runs constantly whereas my old Mac mini M1 was quiet.
Thanks Kyle, Your videos are very helpful! Clear and to the point without rambling lol! I am thinking about migrating to this Mac mini M4 pro (From windows)…. I produce music using Ableton and a ton of VSTs - some of which have very large libraries - so… I need large internal AND external drives to house everything. Performance of the externals SSDs is critical … Can I ask for your advice here? What large capacity external SSDs would you recommend? This may require a video on its own! 😂
A very nice and informative video, thank you very much. I still don't know whether I should go for the base model with 1TB SSD and 36Gigs RAM or the M4pro standard. My most important requirement is video editing in FCPX 4K. I used to be a professional, now I'm retired, so I use it for privat fun. But I don't want to do without animated titles or 3D tractors. Is the basic model enough for this?
I used the M3 MacBook Air to make these videos in FCP for 3 months without any issues, so I think you should be fine on the M4 chip so long as you're not doing anything too crazy!
it depends how much of a snob you are when it comes to the picture. For most people, the picture is going to be fine and the build quality is great, but the Studio Display usually has pretty awful black/grey uniformity if that's something that bothers you.
I have a quick question. I am buying the base mac m4 mini. It is all I need. I have a large music library. In the past I have used an external drive as a boot drive to get around the storage upgrade, but apple intelligence will not work with that set up. I have a 2 TB NVME drive, how would you set this up to take advantage of Apple intelligence? Would love to see a video on this, because I am sure I am not the only one.
One idea: Get a M4 Mac Mini with at least 512-GB internal SSD. macOS Sequoia includes a user-level option where the home directory of that user can be put on an external HD. Create one user account on the internal SSD, but then create your main userid and move it to the external SSD of your choice. I think you'd want at least one userid on the internal SSD just so you can always login even when the external HD is disconnected or not working. While Apple hasn't really released most of Apple Intelligence, I have to think this configuration would work fine, because you're not using options that Apple itself has provided.
Any recommendations for specs i should go for? Planning to purchase the m4 mac mini as my very first mac, and i want to start with video editing (up to 4k footage form drone/gopro/insta360) although its nothing proffessional im kinda a perfectionist. 😅 I thought about either the 16 base model or maybe 24gb ram... also maybe 512ssd and external expansion? (Heard the 256 should be slower)
FWIW: If you're interested in video editing than I'd recommend at least 24-GB memory, because there's no way to upgrade the memory if you find that you don't have enough. Maybe 32-GB if you can afford it. The biggest regret I had with my previous Mac Mini was that I went for 16-GB instead of 32-GB (there was no 24-GB option for the one I bought) and I'm not even doing video. I'd agree with at least 512-GB for the internal SSD, but then look at external SSD's to expand beyond that.
Thanks Kyle! I’m thinking about m4 mini as my main machine in ux design. My biggest issue is monitor. Studio display isn’t an option. It would be so grate if you share your advise about good monitor options for Mac mini
Nice video. I just got a MacBook Pro but I have an older Mac Studio that I am thinking to upgrade. Your video showcases Apples biggest failing in my eyes. Your mouse and my mouse and anyone with a normal hand's mouse... will never be a Magic Paper Weight :) and year after year I hope for a Mouse Pro the shape of a Logitech with two main buttons and a nice wheel and wheel button. I will wish next year and year after that. Apple is basically sitting on a gold mine in the accessory market! Even PC owners would buy an amazing ergonomic Apple mouse with nice aluminum buttons and case and a plastic base and front charging...
Hello, what would be the ideal configuration for photo editing, video editing (30 minutes max) with lots of effects and using Parallel Desktop to launch Windows applications that are not compatible with iOS. For storage, I have the Synology Ds923+ 4X4to and am considering the 10gb connection. Thank you for your opinion.
What desktop display would you recommend to pair with the m4: the Mac Studio at $1,299 or any particular non-Apple product at a lower price point? I’ve been advised the display should be 4k rather than 1080. The purpose is for music production, not gaming, so I need a flat rather than curved display. Thanks in advance.
I am considering skipping the BS at my local Apple Store (Purchasing/PickingUp an item as if it’s the Holy Grail…) and buying the base M4 Pro machine offered on Amazon. How much am I losing out on, compared to the 14/20 cores version?
My Mac Mini needs to support 3x 4K monitors, each with multiple tabs open and a running video stream. Which of the following configurations would you choose? • M4, 256 GB, 32 GB RAM • M4, 512 GB, 32 GB RAM • M4Pro, 512 GB, 24 GB RAM The Mini should be usable for as long as possible. Is the processor more important than the difference between 24 GB and 32 GB of RAM? Thanks!
Ram is more important for multiple tabs. I woudnt invest in internal storage, because its picey as hell. Buy decent external SSD with like 2TB of storage, its cheaper.
If you know you want three monitors *right now,* then I'd go for the "M4Pro, 512-GB, SSD 24-GB RAM". Maybe even go for 32-GB of memory.

Have you experienced any kernel panics or unexpected reboots with the M4 Pro? I've experienced it with some games and video transcoding software and have seen some others post about it on reddit and Davinci Resolve forums. Wondering if you have heard or experienced any of this.
I am iOS Application developer. Working on iOS/ Mac Apps with simulator and also creating some video stuff with editing Pr,Filmora. Which should i buy , M4 OR m4 Pro? OR Go for m4 base with ram extension
More ram and storage on the m4 would be my suggestion. Simulators eat ram and take up a bit of storage for the initial download. 32gb/1tb would be my recommendation for longevity sake if you plan on keeping it for a few years. Never had problems compiling in Xcode with any of the M chips.. they are all fast enough. Edit: missed the bit about video editing too.. not familiar with the requirements there, sorry. I do know from experience that the base chips excel in programming tasks though.
I would recommend getting the M4 Pro base model. Why? First it comes with 24GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. While it’s more expensive, this is going to be the Mac you keep for several years. While Apple is always going to come out with faster chips, the M4/Pro are already capable of editing 4K video with no beachball! In fact from what I’ve seen in reviews, there’s not much it can’t do. I had the M2 Pro and traded it in at Best Buy. They gave me $575 towards my purchase. So my M4 Pro cost me $955 with AppleCare+. For my mundane needs it is definitely overkill but that was the point. I will never push my Mac to a point beyond its ability to meet my needs.
I would look at the LG 4K ultrafine monitors. Lot of folks I know use them, and they are super solid monitors with great color accuracy. Anything with UP or UQ in the model number along with 600 and above - so UP650/UP850, UQ850, etc.

The M4 Pro Mac mini just replaced my M2 Pro Mac mini. I'm happy with the additional Ram and the physical size is awesome.
M4 studio gonna knock your socks off. In love with my M4 Pro 14 inch MB Pro though, been playing through Baldurs Gate at 1440p and its GOOD.
Got an M2 laptop base model, and it's a beast. Can't imagine what this can do with an M4. I will get it for future office/home work.
For sure, been really surprised with this release tbh!
Watching this on my Mac Mini M4 Pro 👍🏻
This is just insanely well-produced content. Kudos!
been using a 2019 MacBook Pro docked with external monitor for years now, and I think I'm finally going to upgrade to this. should be a HUGE leap forward.
Curious if you could have gotten by with a base M4 mini instead of a mini Pro?
@@timbukstu Not really. There is no room for growth. Even the base SSD does not have enough to copy my current disk over to it. There are limits that are show stoppers for me. I have more than just basic computer needs, but if you are just a web surfer and emails, then it would be fine.
Those 3D printed case ideas are almost as incredible as your closers. If you decide to share your files or sell what you’ve already made, I’m totally into it!
Thank you. Very clear and a couple of new things. I have the same setup as you but maxed in out to 64 GB just to get as many years of life as possible!
Okay guys, we need to take him to 100K. He is almost there.
take me home... I'm ready 😂
I have friends who has been using this "hack" for years and they've never experienced any problems :)
And of course... use Time Machine in case of emergency ;)
I'm waiting for the M4 Mac Studio! Hoping it's a good value for the money 🙏
This release and the forced update into Windows 11 next year is making me genuinely consider making the leap fully into the Mac ecosystem for video production.
What's the problem with Win11? Do you mean you're struggling with an OS update, but ready to switch to a completely different OS/ecosystem?
@@falk000 I have a very long and historied list of reasons not to like Windows & Microsoft as a whole, but the comments section of this particular UA-cam video is not the place to get into my personal politics with that. I've been using Mac laptops for over a decade for work & travel and a custom built PC for my desktop solution, but my point is that I'm ready to full send into the Mac ecosystem for my work & personal life at this point in time.
@@northlorn Ah got it, well if you already have the devices and experience in the ecosystem moving to it sounds like a solid decision. And you’ll pay much, much more for it.
@@tgs1766 When I configure Mac mini for the tasks I do, it makes sense to buy the Mac Studio. The cost difference is marginal at that point. You wouldn't be buying a specked out Honda civic when you need an Odyssey minivan.
Same here. Before I spec up a mini, I wait until mid 2025 when the new Mac Studio with the Max Chip will be released.
Thanks Kyle! This was very informative. Looking forward to your other M4 reviews.
Nice clarification on the usb 2x2 standard. Disappointing news but thanks for testing it.
Good video!
Thanks that was helpful, and your configuration is close to what i’ve been considering.
Looking forward to the base m4 Mac machine review that you have coming soon, thanks,
I want the ice cube case so bad I would kill for it! OMG
I buy today m4 pro. They say its deliver to me for 7 days. Can't wait to work on it. :)
A lot of people are telling me to get the base model of that because it's way better for video editors
ua-cam.com/video/Vyzuph9A1N8/v-deo.htmlsi=i-a4_LJb0IQY4HLm. Shows that the M4 base model feels just as fast when editing on his M1 Max MacBook Pro. He uses 4 cams 4k talking head videos with limited animations
I think @shreddykrueger9171
Cheers Kyle. Looking to purchase my first Mac to be primarily used for photo editing. Originally had my mind made up on the M2 Max Studio but given it’s likely to be replaced next Spring, maybe the M4 Pro Mini is more than powerful enough to chug through 100 Mb files and multi layered PSD’s.
watching this from my M1 Max MBP…Mmmh I’m so tempted…
I sit my Mac Studio on an upturned bowl to raise it above the desk. This is to prevent the unit drawing in liquid if I tip a glass over. You could do the same with the Mini.
The effects have stepped nicely in your intro section.
The M4 Ultra is slated to get a better interconnect system. I'm going to wait and hope TSMC is still making computers next summer.
It is your main computer until the new Mac Studio comes out. 😜
Hmm, I just got the basic Mac Mini M4 Pro with 512 RAM. Decent price, futureproof, all the performance I need.

M1 MacStudio I imagine we are hanging in there to see if they manage an upgrade this chip cycle. Especially for us Resolve users
Where dod you get your glasses? Can youh lonk them?
Great video. Thanks for the insights. Would I get by on Primere Pro and Lightroom on the base model or should I go for the Pro chip?
the best reviews on these machines out there. picked up a 14 inch M4 MacBook Pro last week. absolutely love it. Need to find an excuse to get a Mac mini now haha
Really appreciate the level of detail in your videos Kyle. Subbed ! Im just learning Final Cut Pro and felt the library, event, project nomenclature is baffling.
Im on the fence for either the Mac mini pro with added 48 ram or Mac Studio as a graphic designer would love advice ????? leave comments
How does perform the Bluetooth on this M4?

What IDE theme are you using?
I think the power button is on the top if people would simply put the Apple side down. Probably better air flow too!
Thanks Kyle,
Your videos are very helpful! Clear and to the point without rambling lol!
I am thinking about migrating to this Mac mini M4 pro (From windows)…. I produce music using Ableton and a ton of VSTs - some of which have very large libraries - so… I need large internal AND external drives to house everything. Performance of the externals SSDs is critical …
Can I ask for your advice here? What large capacity external SSDs would you recommend?
This may require a video on its own! 😂
Only legitimately gripe: not everyone has a new camera that syncs through usb-c, so xdxc card slot would of been nice
It’s no surprise though. Apple is saving the SD slot for the Studio.
Especially for a creator focused every day type Mac
A very nice and informative video, thank you very much. I still don't know whether I should go for the base model with 1TB SSD and 36Gigs RAM or the M4pro standard. My most important requirement is video editing in FCPX 4K. I used to be a professional, now I'm retired, so I use it for privat fun. But I don't want to do without animated titles or 3D tractors. Is the basic model enough for this?
I used the M3 MacBook Air to make these videos in FCP for 3 months without any issues, so I think you should be fine on the M4 chip so long as you're not doing anything too crazy!
@@KyleErickson Thank you very much for your answer!!
Do you still recommend the Apple Studio Display - Ive just bought a M4 mini and would like a 32 inch display.
it depends how much of a snob you are when it comes to the picture. For most people, the picture is going to be fine and the build quality is great, but the Studio Display usually has pretty awful black/grey uniformity if that's something that bothers you.
Thumbnail looking good 😎👍👏
This is a really good review. Thanks for sharing! Been impressed with the base model mini so far, even for video editing.
I thought about either the 16 base model or maybe 24gb ram... also maybe 512ssd and external expansion?
Great review, Kyle. Thank you. Did you connect the Studio Display via Thunderbolt or via HDMI?

i have the 2019 maxed out specs 16'' macbook pro as my desk set up. is it a big upgrade to switching over to the base mac mini 599.00 $???
Hello, what would be the ideal configuration for photo editing, video editing (30 minutes max) with lots of effects and using Parallel Desktop to launch Windows applications that are not compatible with iOS. For storage, I have the Synology Ds923+ 4X4to and am considering the 10gb connection. Thank you for your opinion.
How has your studio display been?
What desktop display would you recommend to pair with the m4: the Mac Studio at $1,299 or any particular non-Apple product at a lower price point? I’ve been advised the display should be 4k rather than 1080. The purpose is for music production, not gaming, so I need a flat rather than curved display. Thanks in advance.
BTW - I’m looking for a 27 inch display.
• M4, 256 GB, 32 GB RAM
• M4, 512 GB, 32 GB RAM
• M4Pro, 512 GB, 24 GB RAM
The Mini should be usable for as long as possible.
Maybe even go for 32-GB of memory.
ok so I'm about to buy one and I'm confused. I usually use Chrome with more than 30 tabs open, VDI remote working, and my main work is in Adobe LrC heavely, with 25Mb DNG files for now.. That's all, then ofcourse i listen to music, and most of my tasks are done in Google Workspace. I currently have a iMAC 27" 2022 with 32Gb RAM and 5112 GB of SSD, and it's getting slower every day. What i really want is a fast machine to work with LrC with no lag. Would it be better to have a Mac mini M4 with 24 or maybe 32 MB of RAM and 1TB SSD or a M4 pro with 24 GB or RAM and 1TB? I would appreciate your support on this expensive decision. thansk :)
windoes lad here I am going to be swicching to the mac. What to know is it worth it to go M4 pro 14cor cpu and 20 gpu and 64gb ram and 4tbits ssd? well that last me 5 years with coding and video editing and game design and audio preduction? :) (ps i dont like laptops)

Have you experienced any kernel panics or unexpected reboots with the M4 Pro?
I've experienced it with some games and video transcoding software and have seen some others post about it on reddit and Davinci Resolve forums.
Wondering if you have heard or experienced any of this.
none at all!
You got alot of RAM. Wow!
Kyle, can you recommend me budget monitor for macmini m4?
I would look at the LG 4K ultrafine monitors. Lot of folks I know use them, and they are super solid monitors with great color accuracy. Anything with UP or UQ in the model number along with 600 and above - so UP650/UP850, UQ850, etc.
@KyleErickson Even Cheaper?
