- Real world garden tractor servicing including the difficult bits like the wayward oil drain pipe - and the solution to keeping the oil in the pan. The fuel filter was tough to remove as well. Oil and filter change, fuel filter change, inflate tires, lubricate wheel bearings. Change air filter and pre-filter.

No need to prefill a horizontal filter. It will not only make a mess as shown in the video when you tip it, but will fill when you fill the crankcase. Also cut a piece of cardboard or an old plastic container and use under the filter prior to taking it off so the oil drains away into the pan and not all over your frame.

Aluminum foil also works well to redirect the oil since it does not absorb the oil and you can easily mold it to "funnel" down to your oil pan.

The clamps for the fuel line where can you purchase them?
These, or something similar, are available all over from Snap-On Tools (Blue-Point) to Harbor Freight and, of course, Amazon. Very handy they are too!
I bought an old Club Cadet from a local "personality" whose lawn is festooned with mowers of all kinds, that he adopts, supposedly fixes up, and then resells. Had to replace just about everything once I got it home and running. Hired an 18-yo with his own Lawncare company to diagnose the issues & do the work. Runs like a charm now. I had never mown a lawn in my life until moved here. Always had a man to do that. Now on my own on a little farm. I have absolutely no idea about lawnmowers but believe it is my job to know the basics. I'll probably keep the 18 yo on hand to do all the work you're doing here, as he has the mechanics' tools and know how. But I still am forcing myself to learn some skills. I appreciate the silent approach here. Too much yammering on UA-cam.

Nice, I got the xt1 50 last summer. So do you change everything ever spring time. Like you did. And why did you rub the filter thing in the oil.
Hi BigAl, I change the oil when the exhaust fumes begin to smell. It's a sign the oil is past it and needs to be changed. It will also have gone very dark at this point. That might be once or twice in a year depending on use. The fuel filter is changed when the gas in it is looking a bit too dark as well. The air filter I change about once a year and the pre-filter oiling is recommended by the manufacturer. Greasing the joints is done a couple of times a year. When I first got the tractor, six years ago, I did everything by the book but after the first year I figured I could customize the maintenance to better match my usage.

You’ve got to try the Amsoil saber in there for oil. I started running it in mine and it is verifiably cooler, smoother, and better running. Cleaned up a lot of gunk I had in there too. I also run a wix filter on it.

My XT1 started backfiring recently, any idea why? Thanks for the video, I was able to do the oil and air filter change, I don’t feel confident enough to tackle the fuel filter though.
There are many possible causes, Margaret. Under what circumstances does backfire happen?
@@PicRic it’s random, sometimes on starting, sometimes after cutting for about 30 minutes, as of today it’s a moot point, it suddenly quit and won’t even crank up now.
@@margaretodamo6784 Hi Margaret, this is third attempt to reply due to iffy internet in this location. In short, it could be fuel/quality/flow/filter, or electrical/safety switches/spark/plugs/wires/timing. Maybe it's best to get your local XT1 mechanic to have a gander at this stage. What do you think?

What type of grease did you use on the wheels? Red 'N Tacky by chance?
I'm not entirely sure now. I tend to use whatever is suitable and available in my local store. No. 2 multi-purpose grease is recommended.
Where did you get that front bumper? Was that stock on yours? I have an XT1 that came with no bumper and paid $70 for a single bar bumper no where near that nice. Mine is the LT42 with the Kohler 5400 series engine.
It was an accessory that I got from Home Depot a few years ago now. I just looked it up on homedepot.com, "FastAttach Front Brush Guard Bumper for Cub Cadet XT1 and XT2 Lawn Mowers (2015 and After)". The internet code is 304974685. They are out of stock but you can sign up for notification of when the piece is available. Hope that helps.

Thanks, it does. I would have bought that instead if I knew about it. I bought the MTD Genuine Parts 19A30020OEM and it's very sturdy, no complaints.
How many oil quarter need to change ?
Strictly speaking it depends on the engine fitted to the tractor. Mine is a KOHLER 7000 Series KT725 22 HP V-Twin and it takes 2 quarts US of 10w30 oil.

Cub Cadets own channel does not oil the prefilter. Anyone run their mower without oiling the air filter’s prefilter?
The service is based on the recommendations in the manuals that CC supplied with the tractor. It is five years old now so I guess their recommendations have changed.

Very informative. Where did you get those clamps to block the fuel line while you changed the fuel filter?
Hi Vince. I can't remember where I got them - I've had them for decades. Google 'fuel line pinch clamps' to find similar tools from a range of outlets. They are very handy to have.
