I have a John Deere that’s maybe the next model up from this one and it’s been a good mower. Recently the motor was hunting and I knew what to look for thanks to your videos and it ended up being a cracked gasket under the carb. Very inexpensive fix and it doesn’t hunt anymore. Runs very well for its age and I still use it. Self-propel works great on it and it does come in handy on hills.
Yes,I have a 1985 model 4 horsepower Briggs and Stratton powered Supa swift lawnmower which is sitting under the house in pieces which was one of our old neighbours lawnmowers which they threw out, it's still sitting under the house. I have bought parts to fix it up but I am not trying to make money out of it,I want to restore it,it burned itself dry of oil due to having a 2 millimetre (a bit over 1/16 inch) piston ring gap, that camshaft seized up then got bent after one of the valves got stuck in the valve guide. It is second priority to a Victa power torque lawnmower which is an Australian built 2 stroke lawnmower which engine got full of water, the crankshaft bearings are shot & the engine won't idle or keep running because it's governor is vacuum controlled,it will rev its head off due to a crankcase air leak!
This lawnmower is most likely a parts machine I found a lawnmower in the trash a few days ago it’s a craftsman self propelled with electric start it looks like they took care of it but I think it needs a new flywheel key in it cause smoke comes out the carburetor it even has clean oil in it
My mower is from 1999 it was a very cheap tool store mower like Walmart etc. Like. It's still running when u start it after a break it'll blast out that white smoke lol. Than I have to wait a minute than it runs fine. When a heavy load is applied the auto choke goes crazy. But i like it. Uhm still has the original oil in it😅 I'll change it soon lol
Whipe new may turn the faded shroud back to green. My 1993 ford f150 was a money pit, ive put over $7,000 into it just to have it break down again the next day. I now have it running but i only start it once a week for 15 minutes. Im on the fence about selling it because it isnt worth the money ive put into it. I had to put money into it to go to work. After i gave up trying to fix it all the time i used my motorcycle to go to work with (rain or shine) to save up enough money to get a diffrent truck. I now have an 01 f150 and its super reliable. Everyone tells me to sell the 1993 f150 but im hesitant on doing so.
Can you share what you are using for cleaner/degreaser? And secondly, are you using a pressure washer or is that just a good garden hose nozzle? Thank you in advance.
the degreaser I'm using from Harbor Freight, its the only one they have in stock and it's the best stuff I've used and at a great price. The sprayer Is actually a repurposed paint sprayer I'm using just for water.
I love that style of personal pace! I have it on my JS45 and it makes mowing very comfortable. I’m surprised that the plastic is not cracked on the handle! Ours has been cracked for a long time know and we have big washers around the bolts holding it on so the plastic stays together 😅
I was given a McCulloch blower that needed a new fan, fuel lines primer bulb, & grommet for the fuel tank. The cost of the blower fan wasn't viable to fix the machine, so I stripped the blower section away from the engine, & I mounted a car alternator to the engine. I'm yet to finish it, as I'm not in a hurry to do so. I did test it by putting a squirt of fuel into the intake, & it runs great. Once finished, I'll test it by using it to charge a car battery, & see if it will drive the alternator at rated capacity.
Just had a “parts monster” come through here recently and strange as it seems it was just a very simple, basic push mower. After replacing the bad coil and cleaning the carb just to hear the Kohler engine run I discovered it was no good (previous owner used it with low oil and a mouse nest blocking the fins). Put a good used spare engine on it, ran great but oil started pooling on the deck: hairline crack in the oil sump. Ok, put another good used engine on it, will not run properly no matter what I do: turns out the cam jumped time. Third engine did the trick, but then after sharpening and balancing the blade I found out the blade was bent: new blade. Rear wheel needed a bearing, one of the handle wing nuts was missing and the other stripped out, grabbed the parts out of my stash. Had it up for sale but everyone wanted a bag to go with it: ok, I’ll give up my last AYP bag. I swear I must’ve had $300 into that thing for parts and labor, and as nice as it was I only got $120 for it (was supposed to be $125 but the guy showed up $5 short!). If I didn’t enjoy working on this stuff I’d never do it, you’ll never get rich and very often you end up spending your own money or using up your spare parts on a “parts monster”. Sometimes I get the nice Toro or Honda that simply got tipped the wrong way or had too much oil in it too, so it’s not all bad.
Most all mine were BUT I used them here so they were more of an investment than a liability. That was the only way I could justify any of it. I'd never be able to flip them like yall do that do that. Gopher it. Blessings
I found a Toro super recycler, and it had the coil wire and was pulled out. It just had too many problems and I set it out to the curb to let the junk man pick it up.
I have a Husqvarna AWD mower that has become a basket case project. I am amazed that the previous owner got it to run given the amount of parts it was missing. Now I am torn at throwing more parts at it to get it in sellable condition or to just hold onto it for parts.
amazing how many things can be broken on someone's mower . how do you break plug wire , pull cord , and handle bolts at the same time ? any one of these should've taken it out of service . not unusual though , i run into similar situations frequently .
I actually restored the same mower with the same cosmetic damage. In my case i had to do an engine swap due to a bent crank. That mower is made by Murray and it has a strange blade design with the tips. I have a video if you like to check it out.
This particular style of John Deere walk mowers ARE NOT made by John Deere, they are made by Briggs & Stratton Yard Power Products Group - it's a rebranded Snapper/Murray, don't believe me? the blade adapter says Snapper on it when you remove the blade. If anyone has this particular style John Deere walk mower, don't buy parts from John Deere, look it up under the MFG Model on the tag, it will pull up Snapper/Briggs parts.
Can anyone tell me why is it when I tighten the drive wheels on my self propelled mower it becomes difficult to push without self propelled running?????
the nut or bolt keep the wheel from turning, but it shouldn't be, that means either the wheel is not meant for that mower, or something has changed, for it to happen that way.
See if it runs, what works and what doesn’t, plan on parting it out if it can’t be saved for less than $65. Then do a video about breaking down the parts and selling them online…
Your darn lucky that wasp nest was vacant. If there was still wasps there, you would undoubtedly get stung multiple times. Of course that's coming from a guy who has a fear of anything that stings and flys despite never being stung by anything in my life. Heh.
Looks like a neat and rewarding fix-er-upper. I'd like one like that
unfortunately things are going to get worse, but yes I agree with you

very nice mower
Thank You for Sharing
My pleasure
Thank you for the video
no problem and thank you for the comment
Wow looks like its done some work... Still its in the right hands..
I hope so, but what it's got to offer is a lot of disappointment though
You right about that John Deere parts are very expensive. Great video👍🙏👍🙏
Yes they are
Im always excited to see another video.
Glad to hear it!
same i love his videos so interesting and informative
That wasp nest would be real fun to find when it was active
you got that right
You've got to : Know when to hold them, Know when to fold them, Know when to walk away, And Know when to run.
yes sir!

that's what I'm afraid of, but it's such a unique machine that I can't start taking format just yet.

is the 1993 a v6 or v8?
@@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE its the 300L6 straight 6 with the E40D 3 speed with O/D auto trans. Its the one in my profile picture i have here on youtube.

Since it's a John Deere machine, I'd say it's a classic "parts machine"
understandible

This one may be a parts machine, it’s always hard to throw things out😊
you got that right
Yes a possibility of this being a donor for other mowers i have had my fair share
agreed

it a degreaser from Harbor Freight, used at full concentration, it doesn't have a proper name for it.
