Hello Lou, Thanks for making then placement of guides easier to understand. I see Rodmaker comments. I would like a your comment on using single foot running guides on a 10.5 Ft surf rod. The Vintage guides were big and bulky and few. I am using double foot K guides to the choke, maybe 2 more, then going to single ft for the running guides. Before I tie them on, I am pondering if they are strong enough for surf and jetty fishing, this pole is medium action I use it to throw 2-3 OZ lures. The guides are fuji or American tackle, 23mm tall,, Spin cast.

Excellent! Now I know how lame my general purpose surf gear is, but I understand why! I love the clarity of the design, and the rationale for the guide size and spacing. That must be some pretty serious tape to hold position throughout the deflection test and casting, although I guess that any shifting of the guides would be side to side rather than up and down the rod length...Thanks for such a good, clear demonstration!

When building a low mount surf casting rod, 12 to 15 foot, like they use in South Africa and catcbing on in Aussie too, the distance from the reel to the first/stripper guide is 40 plus inches, how does this compute with the figure of 20 to 25 inchs i always hear for the avg distance from reel face to stripper...

I may be late to the party here but just found this. Before any of this can be done, how does one determine where the reel itself is located? Can't do anything without the reel in a definite spot.

I got a surf rod 10 ft do you put on cork rings 40 cork rings altogether and the guides and Saint johns cross I thinking about buying a geek rod or Lamiglas Tri-Flex CSB or GSB I buy all the stuff you need to put it altogether you just put it together

I'm 99,99% sure that he did it b4 putting reel seat on. My opinion is finish the handle first, then guides after!

I'm fairly certain that this video was about guide spacing and not how to build the entire rod. There is no reason for him to even mention anything about the spine or anything else about rod building for that matter. Just about all of us who have come this far already know the other stuff.

Nghiem Cuong It can but probably won't balance well and the performance wouldn't work as well. Go with a VS 200 or 250

Useing twinpower 5000 reel 6.75 inch spool x 27 =182.25 . your only getting 62 inch with van staal ? Where am I going wrong or is it right. Lol
