Visiting The Marble Arch Mound In London - £6m Artificial Hill!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 вер 2021
- In this video I head to the Marble Arch Mound, a brand new tourist attraction at the end of Oxford Street in London! This 25 metre tall artificial hill was originally budgeted to cost £2m to build, however the construction and operation of The Marble Arch Mound has now mounted to £6m. Access was originally paid, however due to poor feedback it's now free to experience. In this vlog I head down to Oxford Street to see what it's all about!

As a resident in the borough of Westminster, I can honestly say this is a complete waste of money when the North of the borough needs money spent on housing, schools and much more. This mound has angered many residents, businesses and all Westminster council tax payers. It’s a disgrace! I hope whoever is responsible, has lost their undoubtedly very high paid job. No need to be positive Shawn, or trying to put a positive spin on it…it’s an absolute disgraceful waste of money and space.
Well Shawn, that certainly was an adventure, a weird one but an adventure ...
What a waste of money. I can't believe this costs £6 mil🤣🤣.
I pass this every day on my way to work and I always think 'I don't know how much the tickets are but this looks absolutely shambolic.'
Realising the tickets are actually free, I still can't be bothered to go check it out
Glad you went for free. Disgusting that anyone had to pay, previously.
I used to live near a man made mountain 🏔️ called a slag heap in Chell Heath made by Chatterley Coalmine. which is now a museum in Stoke On Trent.
well done Shawn on all the steps to the top and good filming from around fro the top as well, keep the adventure up Shawn on this channel they a good adventure. thumbs up to you.
comment of the day award goes to you - "'lots of famous shops down there ........primark"
What a complete waste of £6 million , someone needs to take a long hard look at themselves , that money could have gone to some deserving cause 🤐
Tks for this, already booked in for tomorrow knew not that a good View in fact have better where I live but will be up town & thought oh why not let's see what it's all about. Thanks for the pre up 😊 let's see if I can match the glorious landscape on 📷
This will really put London on the map now.
Ha ha….you actually went and did it! I forgot that I’d previously mentioned a Mound POV. Also, with any UA-cam revenue, you’ll probably be making more of a profit from it than the actual operators. :-)
I had to do it!
Wow 2 videos this weekend amazing
Great Vlog as always Shawn
Might check it out in a couple of weeks when I'm next in London.
Could be interesting as I'm attending an event in cosplay that day...
Awesome video
Me and my family just came back from London I’m tired and my family is tired I love you Shawn xx
Awesome video. 👍
Unbelievable. Your reaction was hilarious, and fully justified.
I'm going to London later this month and I hadn't actually heard of this, I'll probably go and check it out but its not the most exciting thing is it haha! Ridiculous cost too, I can see why they no longer charge for it. Thank you for vlogging it, it gave me a good idea of how the system works. Love watching your vids, as you know. Hope you're well
It’s definitely worth checking out!
Thank you for sharing your perspective of what it looks like on this waste you call of a tourist attraction for London. 6m pounds gone down the drain for this temporary piece of rubbish. Would rather of them invested it into something more needed and with better purpose. Maybe a new underground extension, new tourist attraction not there and somewhere else in the city. But yeah 100% complete waste, also got plenty of viewing points in London. But thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more adventures on this channel soon. 😀👍
Brilliant video, love your informative intro & commentary! The mound however is not so brilliant, especially for £6m LOL!
Thank you!
It's like one of the rides in that episode of Father Ted
I'm glad that my local builders don't charge £6 million for some scaffolding ha ha 😆
Very nice
I never miss your videos buddy
great video
6 million pounds. 😳😳 love the video though. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hmm that's a waste of Money. Great vlog Shawn. Glad I have the Peak District 2 miles away. Now I know what people mean. When they say something is a pile of 5h1t. Lol.
You went to the top Shawn , but there’s actually a really cool secret light exhibition inside it
God, just think what you could do for £6 million!!! I wonder how much they were expecting to get back from ticket sales. Whoops! I hope they don't take it down early because I want to visit just before Christmas, just to experience standing on top of a colossal waste of money. 😆
Planning a vacation to London solely to climb the mound. Just gonna fly in, climb the mound, then fly home again.
this mound looks llike something you create on rollercoaster tycoon with the raise terrain tool and then just give up
When the world can’t travel, you do it for us. Another great place , well I think so👌👍🇦🇺
Thanks!
Finally something has broken through your eternal positive attitude 😂 It's not one of London's finest.
Thank you for sharing this unexpected and strange adventure Shawn!! As first I was thinking it not very accessible for disabled people to also enjoy the views. But then I saw the Lift, which I hope is working for those going on this Six million pounds man made mountain. ☺️
Is that a reason for this man made mountain to that’s cost six millions pounds and is only temporary, is it for charity or something that will be useful to our people or environment? ⛰
Thanks for watching! I’m really not too sure the idea behind it!
It’s suppose to be a tourist attraction to help recovery after COVID.
I love rollercoaster tycoon
Golden 🍓
1921: In the future, people will be flying around with wings!
2021: artificial hill
good morning Shawn
There was definitely some dirty money involved building that mound.
Looks like real life rollercoaster tycoon hill
I honestly though the mound was an urban myth, can’t believe it’s a real thing.
It’s crazy and all for £6m

*How many times did this guy repeat " 6 Million Pounds" ?* 😅🤣😂🙃😉😘🤔🤨🙄🤑🤗🤭🤫
1 - As you say an insulting waste of money!
2 - Of all the places they could have build it! I mean its not the worst view in the city but I can think of countless things Id rather be looking at
3 - I want to no what's apparently so wrong with all the existing real green spaces and parks they felt a new artifical one was needed
This is unbelieveable terrible the money they have spent on it and the state the country is in NHS, housing, need i go on. But your video is great Shawn.
Looks like a hill from rollercoaster tycoon
Sounds like a lot of back pockets were filled during the build of this, absolutely no way this costed £6M for some structured scaffolding, looks disgusting and I can’t believe they’re charging people to walk up it 😂😂
Bro In the philippines you can make hills 120x bigger than that
yeah the first million they get, probably a loan from the Queen, they go and spend it on that arch, they might as well as bought some gum and toilet paper, it would have added up the same, lol thanks for sharing my friend!!
Sadly no more.....nice view from the top.
Not quite Barcelona though 🤔
I cannot believe they were going to charge £20 for that!
There's a light thing inside it did u see that xx
I didn’t!
Absolutely crazy times, I'm wondering what is next, a man made river flowing through London. This council must surely have more money than sense.
They would be better to keep it in place , wow 6million , i think they could of put this money into the new theme park area near the water for new themed area
It's been confirmed to be closing tomorrow
Can you do a tour of the location where the blonde sock puppet wasted £53m on a bridge that didn't get built
Should’ve gotten a b&m
Well, it’s interesting. I’ll say that.
Interesting 🤔 why oh why.. If it were taller you'd get the expected views of Oxford Street and Hyde Park.. Like you said perhaps In the winter months with the Christmas lights and winter wonderland you may get a different view.. Its a shame this cost so much but I guess it's an amusement of sorts.. Something newsworthy but inert😜 a distraction from the woes of this world maybe???
Thanks for sharing!
Was this one of Mr Khan's follys?
I’m not too sure on the details
Y'all... It's art. Stop saying it's a waste because the money could've been spent else where... That's what everyone says about art. It's a green space, a sculpture, and an engineering feat. It may also be seen as a political piece against over-development.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Looks like an awful waste of £6m to me, and they didn't get much for it either!
Do you like looking at old red telephone boxes
I do!
Can you do a vlog on old red telephone boxes please
I remember watching videos when this monstrosity first opened and they were charging folk entry. At that time, you descended by the central internal staircase which you see on the viewing platform. The internal descent really showed what a shambles this place really is! Looked like some scaffolders had just been given an unlimited supply of poles and free reign to see what they could come up with. At the bottom was a large empty void which apparently was unfinished at the time and was supposed to become some sort of food court/entertainment space. I assume that idea has been abandoned? As others have said, what an incredulous waste of money. The instigators of this project clearly need to give their heads a wobble!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I’ve just been to this and got told off for filming by security and got escorted off the premises lol !!!! Avoid this attraction
Lol I was wondering what this monstrosity was.
Every penny spent on this eye sore was signed off on by your wonderful (not insane) Mayor of London Sadiq Khan !
Don't think I'll bother with this one, you'd think they'd learnt after the millennium dome fortune-wasting exercise
£20 for that lmao. take my money or just come to Wales.. shocking attraction
It back fired because it cost £6 million pounds
Seems mad to spend that much money on something like that when there's so many other things they can spend the money on. Locals must hate it. Nice video though shawn.
classic tories eh
Such a waste of taxpayer money that could have gone to better causes :(
But a welcome and enjoyable video nonetheless, Shawn!
They could have at least put a lift inside it. Completely man made, complete waste of tax payers money . Having said that, enjoyed the video. Thanks for doing it Shawn ! Love your honesty too
Thank you
A waste of £6m! What were they thinking?!🤦♂️
Waste of money building it. Looks like an 8 year old designed it using Minecraft
It’s a disgraceful waste of money especially in today’s climate, whoever signed this off should be ashamed of themselves, Also all that money for a temporary structure they could have put in permanent arrangements for probably much cheaper.
Minecraft in real life
6 million and it's being turn down next year boggles the mind it could of been spent on school's homes helping the homeless anything anything but a hill.
OK for a Green area to look at but not to go up .
6 million pounds ? That’s a waste of taxpayers money
I'm sorry but this is a disgusting waste of money.
Your right complete waste of money
What's the point £6m for an artificial Hill and scaffolding? It's certainly not the greatest of investments!
That much money to build and landscape. And then they're just going to tear it down that seems crazy to me. Why don't they just leave it I wonder? Still seems like it would be cheaper for an example in the states certain States like Florida I'm pretty sure the Parks and rec department they take care of all that thing your taxes pay for it. Is that how it is there? It seem like they would have something like that to maintain landscape and just keep the fake Hill up
I love a unique attraction but this is a complete waste of money, I also had no idea this was even a thing so it’s not been advertised that well
£6m waste of money unfortunately
We can blame the Tory run Westminster Council for this immense waste of tax payer money.
ikr isn't it typical
Funny how their official website says "We’ve got Brexit done so we can invest in our NHS, schools and the police."
....then they go and waste £6million on this complete eyesore.
The people behind this monstrosity need to be fined and fired!
I still can’t believe it’s ended up costing £6m
@@TheSanbrookeAdventures From what I can see in the video, I can't imagine that costing anywhere near £6m to build. It's literally just scaffolding covered in tarpaulin, turf and plants.
The project lead and deputy leader of Westminister (Melvyn Caplan) resigned after it was built, which makes you think something very dodgy is going on.
This is a huge insult to the tax payer and this needs to be investigated.
How utterly stupid and pointless and at £6Million? Ridiculous. :D
maybe they can sell it to Whales, so they can have two high hills!
£6 million for that they having a laugh money should went to a good cause tbh
I’m sorry but this is absolutely useless😂. Scaffolding with a load of grass on it.
England accent.....did you said hell or hill
Hill 😂
Look it's wasted if 1 , it's not for free.
2. They need to add trees and nice smelling flowers on top and all around.
3 they should remove the metal raling or at least make a nice looking one.
4 they should build traditional style archatecture by against the white surfice, could be a nice restaurant with a small square.
These people have no creativity and it cost way too much.
They can do it much cheaper and probably used it as a money funnel.
I'm interested in the idea of man made hills and putting buildings on the cliff slope surface.
I have some designs.
I agree, im all for nature in cities but that mound of dead dirt and generic railing is so ugly, especially that massive white board on the other side
@@5subschallengedjsjs288 the problem is the lack of traditional ornamentation, and comfortable places to sit.
They make environments look sterile now
What a waste of money. In a time when people are struggling due to the pandemic, families not being able to put food on tables, paying bills etc. The 6million could have been spent on so much more. What idiots thought that this would be a good idea, they need their heads looking at. No wonder you struggled to say something postive.
Great Vlog but what a waste of money
What's the use of building it only to get it shut in such a short time? Talk about waste of time and money.
Such a waste unfortunately
What an absolute monstrous waste of tax payers money 💰 jokes
NHS on its last legs, foodbanks, mass homelessness...i know, let's waste 6 million on an artificial hill...that'll do the trick.
It’s such a waste of money
What a WASTE of money.
Unfortunately so
This is massive waste of public money and does absolutely nothing to help boost tourism in London.
Sadiq Khan should be ashamed of himself!
You can blame the Conservative run Westminster Council, they funded it.
It’s crazy how this was even allowed to get built
Eye sore & waste of money….Glad it’s only temporary! Get rid
