years ago used to go on car cruises with a mate who had a r33 skyline gtr and one of his mates had a garage and he built a capri 4x4 with a cossie engine. and in corner of his workshop he had a shell of a cossie 3 door was a thunder saloon with orange arches. he was from over near saddleworth moor near manchester he was called rusty he used to race his capri against other cossies
The process is correct mate but it's dependent on what type of cast it is. back in the day I worked down Hendon near the shipyard and I done a welding course at wearside college and I asked to do cast welding. You can buy rods/wire designed for welding cast. Done many a cast welding job.
I'd recommend using the Simoniz engine paint in the future Adam, I've used the Hycote stuff in the past and I'm not a fan, I use the Simoniz stuff on bike engines, frames, forks and so on and it's brilliant stuff, it's enamel based so takes a while to dry but it's really tough and looks like powder coat when cured, I've had a fuel filter come loose and pour neat fuel all over it and just left it to dry and it didn't so much as stain it, same goes with oil and all. You can get it in Matt/satin/gloss black and aluminium silver.
The Exhaust manifold gas temp sensors could be difference between melting a piston and not fella. Massive safety feature for big power cars given thebl heat produced. They didnt look in best condition mind, but something i would certainly consider if budget allows and your ECU can utilise

Surely it won't get to that sort of doh , bloody hell i had a few cosworths back in my early 20's when they wasn't that desirable and i remember when the black Siemens injectors come on the scene and i had a early 4x4 sapphire which was motorsport developments demo car and i bought it for 5k and it was proven 400bhp and it had 55lb black injectors a msd custom chip , 500 cooler and a t34 , 63 turbo spiked 34psi and held 29 all the way to the limiter and i used to beat everything , there wasn't much back then apart from the odd lambo and ferrari that was fast enough to beat me , these days a stage 1 golf r would most certainly be quicker
Not at all. There’s so much information out there. He probably has a network of people to contact to do it correctly. He’s an engineer/machinist I believe. I’m an ex qualified mechanic. It’s not rocket science as long as you take your time to make sure it’s done properly.
@@gdfgggggrubbish. 500bhp YB builds you need to know what you are doing. For a start he thinks he can get 500bhp on standard single row injectors. He's going to run out of injector duty right away and torch the engine right away. Also you cannot weld cast like that it will fail after a few heat cycles. This is basics and he cant even get them right. You do apreciate that when you run out of injector you automatically run the engine overly lean yeah? Righ so Adam overlooked that part so clearly does not have the knowledge required. Its easy to throw enough boost down anything to make 500bhp but making it hold 500bhp and last is another story.
Cant weld cast like that and running 500bhp on them injectors is whats melting pistons. You do realise the second you run out of injector duty your injector is then acting like a blow torch running super lean yeah? Hmmmm I like you Adam but you get quite a lot wrong bud maybe speak to mechanics before you wreck a cosworth block

Your gonna want those intake temp sensors if you want to tune in 500bhp!

A MIG welder won't weld cast iron, it will crack again
You can't weld cast like that you need cast welding rods
You need a kit car to put this engine in
