That was great! I almost got some of that. Which is a lot more than I've done before. I am likely tone deaf and musically disinclined, but that made some sense. I'm off to watch it again, but this time with my dulcimer in my lap. Thank you.

Thank you so much I am learning so much about music from you. I'm self taught and UA-cam certified on the guitar and am anxiously awaiting for my dulcimer to be built and delivered

Thanks for teaching us this. I played guitar many years and just started on dulcimer and also lap steel. Do you show us some songs and licks riffs, etc? Is this instrument used to play solos, like guitar solos, like jamming with a band, playing gigs. I have not seen your videos yet. I only saw this one and the one about adjusting them.

I found the chart that you put in this video (as well as the whole teaching) very helpful. I want to not only learn to play, but understand the music theory, as you call it. I copied the chart on a large pad of paper and am determined to memorize it.
May I ask possibly a dumb question? Why are the 2nd and 9th frets F# C# F# (sharp)? I understand why the 6 1/2 fret is #, but not 2 and 9. They are not half like 6 1/2. If it is too complicated to explain, don't bother. I will understand eventually.
    Thank you Mandy.

If you are a member at my site you have access to all my theory stuff. But I also have this for $5 - it’s an ebooklet with ALL my theory sheets explaining it to you - banjolemonade.com/product/basic-music-theory-ebooklet-all-instruments/
The 2nd fret on your dulcimer - notice how there’s large spaces and small spaces on your dulcimer. In my music theory sheets I teach you about whole and half steps and that there’s no sharps or flats between E and F or B and C. So the next step on a dulcimer from E is a whole step to fret 2. That means that note is an F# (because there is no E#). I teach you all this in this booklet. My booklet will take you through it slowly and throughly and there’s a helpful quiz at the end. - You can do it!
