Yeah I opted to skip that since I wasn’t sure it would gain me anything.

Oh, this came up on my feed - I just did similar mods to my I have my XPS 8940 3070 / 10700K so thought to put down my findings:
Its the one that came with the Big Dell cooler but was still hitting the temp max for cpu whislt gaming
Was hitting the temp limit before, now not at all
I opened the case, put 3x deepcool 120mm fans blowing at the motherboard and gpu and a Dracena 120mm AIO cooler (If you remove the rear fan it fits snugly/almost perfectly in though theres no natural drill holes) from amazon.(Its still not screwed in I will be drilling a few holes when I have a moment) the cooler came with a rgb and fan board so i could attach the other 120mm fans.
Really happy with it, im still iterating a 3d printed cover for the side panel with gaps for the fans whole lot.

I’m about to do the same upgrade. So you didn’t have any BIOS errors that some are reporting? Thanks.

Anyone else tempted to literally strip the CPU, SSD and GPU out of the PC and put it into an entirely new case/motherboard? The only think I like about the Dell 8940 is that it has pretty decent front IO.

It uses a proprietary power supply so there is that obstacle

@@WhereNerdyisCool Agree, the Dell PSU is also not very quiet.

Hi, I just watched your upgrades. I am working on a friend's pc, it's a Dell XPS 8940 i7-10700. She only really uses it to edit photos. Using photoshop and lightroom. The issues she has is while using a brush tool in photoshop it sometimes freezes the pc and the program stops responding. Not sure if you could help figure out if there's any upgrades I could do to solve this. It does have the Nividia graphics that came with it, 24gb of Ram. There's an SSD. Any ideas? I have noticed where she has the tower and mentioned to her that heat could be playing a part but I am wondering if it's a photoshop issue.

Dell has an update program that should be pushing the latest drivers for the board and hardware inside. If you put your hand over the back (where the outlet fan is) I imagine it’s pretty warm. As shown in the video, mine is an Intel i9 and that hockey-puck like heating just wasn’t working well for me. If your friend opens the case, see what type of heat sink is in there. Certainly a better cooler could help. If I didn’t it over, I’d skip the fan by the video card. But the bigger rear fan sure pulls a lot of heat out The front one, while not entirely necessary, sure helps move that hot air out of that little box!

Do you need to use that 3D printed bracket, for the front 120mm fan? I dont have a 3D printer.

You do. It’s an easy print. Reach out to your social media friends. I’m sure someone you know has one?
