I signed a 6 year General Aptitude contract and I also got told all throughout BMT that I was going to be put in security forces but I ended getting medical as a 4N031 in aerospace medical services. I wanted medical and so I got medical. Going in open general was pretty worth it because I got a job that has a lot of hands on stuff and a lot of opportunities for education and I have met a lot of new people and future coworkers that I’ll be serving with. It’s pretty awesome!
I went in open electronics in 89. Thought I was getting hosed. Turned out to be awesome. I had my EE degree and years of ham radio experience. In basic you will get a appointment to chose your job. I chose wideband. Saw a thing on there called a bypass test. I qualified to take it and passed. So I skipped tech school. That was a double edge sword. Took the 5 level tests for both wideband and satcomm before those afsc's combined. I was special :) I already had a good afoqt score before enlisting but did not have a year to spend on getting a package ready and honestly it would have average at best. 3.5 years later I went to OTS. I was already doing a comm engineers job as a SrA. So went right back to my same desk as a 2lt. Long story short. Open contracts can work out great. Your AF career is what you make it. Just work hard. Don't eff up. Care about the people around you. Take advantage of the opportunities you are presented with. And don't be shy!!!! Stand out.
I understand this now . Thank you 🙏 I’m 34 years old married and have one child looking to make a total change as well as leaving the medical field and wanting to do something new ❤️ I have 8 jobs listed for admin and general ❤️
I went open mechanical not really knowing what I wanted to do or what jobs would be a good fit for me. I ended up getting a pretty awesome job which has given me the opportunity to meet great people and have an awesome learning experience!
Great video! I have a much better understanding of Open Aptitude. I am waiting to take the ASVAB, my top job is a Linguist, but I am open to going Open Aptitude as I going based on the needs of the USAF.
my recruiter told me she doesn't have time to make a list and has only told me about 2 jobs available smh. im prior service and don't have to repeat basic so i really only need to go to tech school.
Hello Sgt. Thanks for this content. After submitting my 10 jobs list, my recruiter is asking me if I want to list the general or administrative aptitude? And I'm confused about it . Would you mind enlighten me?
Thinking about going admin aptitude. Would this still be a good idea in 2024? I honestly just don't want to end up with a job that I hate and be miserable for 4 years lol. Really leaning towards an admin job and was wondering if this is the best way to do that?
I am going open electrical but I was wondering can you put down or ask for admin jobs instead of electrical. I am on a wavier so I have to go open electrical but I want a admin job instead. I am leaving soon so I need to know ASAP.
noemi luz not that I know of, but do the research on electronic jobs that have a lot of admin. They are there. My last ele guy got some elec medical job. Just do a lot of research, look at the reddit Air Force Wiki page.

Is it possible to be offered a job from a different aptitude area that you were given if you wanted it? For example Mech contract being offered an air crew job that is general aptitude.
Thank you for the reply; I leave on the 28th and was trying to get another perspective on my Mech contract. Hopefully I can just retrain to air crew later on.
