Don’t you dare switch to testing off camera! Your surprise at unexpected outcomes is half the charm of your videos! Besides, that makes it much more relatable to all of our “Huh?” Moments. One thing that you may have left out with this one though is the impact on weeds with the different types of cultivation. Shallower cultivation/plowing should result in more or quicker weeds. Interestingly enough though, I used a traditional cultivator (dark field state) and then bought a power harrow halfway through the field. The power harrow left a shallow cultivation state but, the next day, I had weeds all over the cultivator part but there were NO weeds on the part I did with the power harrow! The variety of results is mind boggling but so much fun. I also agree that the direct drill should not be automatically giving the fertilizer state. I suspect they mistakenly put the mulched function on that rather than cultivator to avoid the rocks? I would not be surprised to see that changed in a future update. Important differentiation ---> Spaders provide both plowing / cultivation AKA "cultiplow" equivalent. Traditional plows and basic subsoilers do not. In addition, they often have added 3 point attachments to connect seeders or planters to one step the process. Field preparation is a strength of FS22, but texture assignment is not. I sometimes question if Giants Software game designers know their own equipment choices.

14:30 - Keep in mind that seeder (and a number of the others) have a power harrow built in., so it is cultivating the ploughed field then seeding. FS19 you had to combine the power arrow and seeder manually, FS22 seems to bundle them up.
In depth and informative guide as always! I think from my experience that if you are cherry picking the rocks you can see with the rock picker then you will miss small ones. I have noticed the amount of stones going up on mine when I can’t see any on the field, but if you are rolling anyway then it doesn’t really matter.
Also noticed that although the grass roller pushed the stones down, it didn’t give the ‘seed bed’ state so I assume you wouldn’t get the 5% increase.

Thanks for this useful guide. I am not going to lie, for a complete farming novice, who hasn't the slightest clue what the difference is between 'ploughing', 'sowing', 'cultivating', 'til' / 'no-til', the video can be a bit overwhelming at times but you have given me the tools to further my knowledge, now that I roughly know what to look for.
@@MrSealyp This was by no means intended as criticism, although I would more than welcome a video guide aimed at less farming-literate people, such as myself on what the various 'things' mean both from a real world and how they are modelled in the sim :) (and I am sure many others would too).
The fact there is so much to farming is just a matter of fact ; can't complain that Giants has crammed so much of it into their Farming Simulators over the years.

I believe you can only get one fertilizer state per growth stage (unseeded ground-seeded counts as a growth stage as well) so if you fertilize prior to seeding on cultivated ground you get one fert state. Then you fertilize with the seeder and get the second.. or you can fertilize with the seeder then spray fertilizer once your crop reaches the next state. I think this is so you aren’t allowed to “over fertilize”.
This is how I do it at least, not sure how it works with the mulcher for the 5%bonus but hope this helps
You were one of the people who helped me play FS19 so I am looking at your FS22 guides too, this one however confused the hell out of me. Could you please just list the order I work on a field from start to finish. I have learning difficulties and although I enjoy your guides it is good if I follow them with a list in front of me too. Thanks for all your help.
I was thrown off a bit by the new seedbed Growth State also, I do believe its more than just appearance though I think it increases yield. Here's what I've found: "When you roll over, flatten and compress the seedbed you get an extra yield bonus once you have sowed your crops." Thx for the video mrsealyp, great stuff as usual!!!

If you look closer at the seeder´s they seem to have some sort of tines/discs to prepare the ground from ploughed to cultivated before the actual seeding part comes into action, whereas most of the planters do not unless they are direct drill.
Awesome video! Only issue I have had is technically in the US we use rollers after we seed the field to get seed to soil contact better and it is mainly for protecting the harvesters.

That first seeder you used would really only be used on land that is ploughed. Widely used in the winter, a plough in front of the drill. It had a power harrow attached to the front. Plough 'n' drill is used when the conditions are two wet to do it any other way. The plough would bring up the drier soil and then the drill with the power harrow/combination seed drill, combining cultivating and then seeding, would then work drier land. Until my heart gave up at 35 farming was all i knew. We used to plough and drill Nov-Jan and sometimes Feb for winter wheat. Especially after veg crops.

Now if FedEx or whoever is delivering my game would hurry the hell up and deliver my game, I would be most pleased. Guess that's what I get for choosing GameStop as my middle man. Dunno why I couldn't have ordered that directly from Giants Software, maybe i screwed up and could have gotten it direct.
But it is what it is.

I used to go with my dad on school holidays when he was working on a farm...this is back 1995 or so. None of the ploughs I see here are familiar except that extreme ground ripper type. Where's just the normal disc? We used a John Deere 4440 with a big disc having a pair of fold-out wings. I don't see anything like that here. Wow, how things have changed.
If I'm not mistaking by using the direct drill over the stubble although you going to ge a fert state weeds will be popping more regular than if you had taken the extra step to get rid if the stubble
thanks. I’m playing with seasonal grow on. After harvest, when do I begin prepping the field? In the month I need to seed? For example oats, harvest is in July/august, planting season is in March/April.
I begin prepping (mulch, seeding, lime, etc in March?
I have used a subsoiler on fields and only seen small stones and I have used it on other fields and seen large stones. The difference I believe is that the large stones only came up when the field was in a "needs plowing" state. So perhaps that determines the size stone you get? I have also used a plow and gotten large stones, but possibly only from creating fields... I have not thoroughly tested that.

I think the games "direct drill" Nordsten Howard seeder, has a power harrow section with it (HK 25) which will cultivate first. @14:12

From what I've seen, and I think someone else noticed it in a video.
The roller doesn't give you the bonus is used for puching the stones, it only gives it you if you roll after you seed the field.
Best thing to do for yeild boost seems to be:
.
Mulch the field
Plow and Lime if needed
Use the Stone Picker to get stones and skip the Cultivator, or Cultivate if there isn't any stones
Seed the field
Then use the Roller
And then the fertiliser and keeping eye on weeds as normal
but mulching doest work with crops like wheat...

I prefer your method of explaining and learning with you as you make vids, I do not like the guys who do everything off line and then post the video. keep up the great work. Question though if you mulch and then use direct drill will that give us 2 fertilizer states
I've found a thing with field stones. I used to like using ridge markers when sowing seeds myself. Not anymore! The ridge markers bring up stones almost as bad a subsoiler!
I believe the reason why you didn't get a 2nd fertilizer application when you tried the direct drill(with fertilizer) is that because the direct drill seeder gave you a fertilizer state itself. The fertilizer in your seeder, as it was in fs19, is that the game uses the fertilizer 1st before the seed. So the game wouldn't give you the 2nd fertilizer applied. You need to change the field state. The field states are 1)fertilizer 2)Lime 3)Seeding 4)Plowing 5)Cultivating 6)Plant growth.
I have pulled some big rocks out with the subsoiler too. One field had little stones, another big rocks. No clue why the difference. Same equipment on both fields.

Defo will help as I've said you put great effort into these videos and again with the education part .did you know you can sell the stones also 👍 With all this said I was thinking FS would of made for different plough . cultivation process. For the depth and stones clearing for best yeld it's a shame they did not bring for each extra job did would make better over all yeld. As makes no sense on shallow or deep prosses. Dose bring bit more new jobs todo and implements into the game .maybe we can fill the front weight bin on tractor etc and possible for for weight stone grid to actually used with these l. stones /rocks. .
Grass field, move it, make silage. It retain 1 fertilize state. Go over with a weeder get the second fertilize-state. rinse and repeat...
Also the kverneland ploughs come with an optional packomat
Haven’t tested yet but would this save using the roll after ploughing as the packomat does the same job
So I have a question(s).... When I cultivate with a shallow cultivator, it gives me a "stubble tillage" state. If you seed over that, will it effect yield? The odd thing is that if I get the "stubble tillage" state, and run the rock large rock picker over the field it gives me a "cultivated" state in the places I ran it.... So is it better to plant with stubble tillage state, or do I have to have cultivated state?

What I would like to see giants change is when you have fieldstone active, that when you have stones on your field, that it would show on your map like fertilizer or crop growth
idk if this was something added in the last 4 months, But it absolutely does now.
I am definitely new to Farming Simulator, and I improvised a system that made sense to me based on tool-tips of the machines.
My order of operations was: Mulch(if needed), Plow (If needed), Rock-pick, Roll, Fertilize, planter, fertilize(if needed), roll again.
Mulch: Only used if the field previously had crop in, some of the starting fields are already 'empty' with no stubble, or are pre-cultivated where it won't make sense. Boosts yield?
Plow: Makes big rocks, but plows the field getting rid of the detriment of needing plowing, boosting yield. If the field doesn't need plowed, then running a regular cultivator would be viable.
Rock-pick: The rock pickers act like cultivators, putting the field in a cultivated state while getting rid of both big and small rocks .
Rolling: Puts the field in a seed-bed state, which I assume boosts the yield when you plant into it.
Planter: Plants the seeds into the seed bed, some planters have fertilizers in them so it would skip the need for the second stage fertilizing.
Fertilize: If your planter hasn't added the second stage of fertilizing, then this is when you would do it.
Rolling: This is done at the end to 'compress' the seed bed, once planting is done which also supposedly boosts yield.
I don't have any actual numbers for this data, and I am curious to see what take this video gives me, but so far I have yet to see many people make a good 'order of operations' for optimal crop yield.
(Personal notes): I have never had the field state of "Stubble Tillage" nor have I ever had a roller work on pushing in the stones which is why I always use a rock picker. Regardless of the tool I was using (plow, cultivator, spader) ect. I always got the large stones, I don't know if this is only due to it being the starting fields or not, but the stones I have always gotten were large regardless of which plow type I used. (Not including the harrows, or sub-soiler. I haven't used those)
What step do you add "Lime?"
@@anthonyboone6843 if a field needs lime, I usually add that before fertilizing. Since you can use the white texture of the lime, to make sure you have the entire field sprayed with fertilizer

So if the field needs ploughing and you use a sub soiler it brings up rocks so then you can use the rock picker and rid the field of them. However if you then use a direct drill seeder it brings up rocks straight after you drill the seeds... which I just tried. Do I then use the rock picker again and if I do will it dig up the seeds? If that's the case what's the point in picking up rocks after sub soiling or ploughing if I use a direct drill?? I'm confused.
The Nordsten has a power harrow and drill so it will work on plough. If you just seeded then doubt it would. Ie no power harrow knocking the seedbed into shape

I've been using the Spirit R 300S seeder (giants mod, but was base game in 2019), and there only has seeding capability, no fert, but i still got a fert stage from direct drilling..
The difference in the various field preping going shallow or deep, deep bring up stone's. Is in part due to where you farm. Any where North of the frost line, where as the ground will freeze up to some 6 feet deep, it pushs up rock's, which then have to be removed one way or another. Farming South of the frost line, the ground never freezes. So going deep on a new field will bring up rock's, which then can be destoned, and the following year's, a shallow, because, the rock's when going deep are gone, and because it never freeze's, stay below the depth originally plowed. Meaning never having to stone again. Hense using only a shallow cultivator.
I'm 75 year's old, and have memories of helping to destone a field by hand, while following a horse pulled wagon. But then in those day's, if one had a section of land, meaning 4 square's of 40 acres; That was a large farm. Those farmer's who could afford a tractor, could and would utilize a plow with some 12 in teeth. But then I lived in the middle of Minnesota, and the ground always frooze down to six feet, so there were alway's rock's and stones.

I noticed that if you use the direct drill as a direct drill you get the fertilizer state, but if you cultivate first you do not get the extra fertilizer state.
I started seeding and realized I forgot to remove the rocks so I stopped and got the rock picker. Come to find out once you seed over the rocks they cant be removed. Assume there locked until you plow/cultivate again.
The drill you was using has power Harrow built into it so you can just plow it then drill, not need for cultivation
If I am not mistaken, with direct drill, you also get stones

At 26 mins 40 you rolled the ploughed are & removed/ pushed in the stones, i tried it & it didn’t work, also the Pottinger C6f, seemed to be using a average amount of seed, yet mine absolutely abuses seed, I can’t keep up with buying points, being only pallets or big bags, frustrating it is 👍
I've tried rollers after both ploughing and cultivating, and yet to see it do anything with those stones... I still have to go with a rock picker...
17:45 did you have that silly dust mod on by chance. Seems like there was so much fog I couldn't see what the field looked like
A good idea would have been to put the seeder diagonal across the various plough states, maybe next time :)
I'm still doing (as in fs19) seeding with fertilizer, then herbicide (!), then roller (as a 2nd stage of fertilizer)
I discovered a bug. If you use the mulcher and then you try to use a
combo equipment cultivator+seeder, it doesn't works. You have to
separate the cultivator from the seeder for make it works.
My personal theory is that mulching is supposed to get a 5% bonus, perhaps direct seeding gives a slight fertilized like state (thus showing up as blue). And fertilizing in top doesn't go dark blue because it's only a slight bit over 50% fertilize (55% 50 for fertilizer + 5 for mulch effect of direct seeding) and not close to 100%, like with 2 fertilizer applications. Giving a total 105% fertilizer state?......
Hey when you tried to use the planter on the mulched part it looked like you didn't have any seed in the planter.... so maybe thats why it didn't work
I tried to roll after plowing and the rocks stayed. They must be big rocks. The plow does give you big rocks. Maybe it depends on map or field location?
So if u mulch then plow or cultivate is that more than 5% increase in yields

i dont no wot im doing wrong, i planted oilseed radish, it grew i cultivated that in, planted soybeans n that crop hasnt popped up after skipping 7 days with the seasonal option OFF. HELP!
If I was to plant corn and I need the ground to be plowed but I also have rocks how does that work
Important to note - If you don't cultivate and prepare the seed bed you can only get rid of 50% of the weeds. A prepared seed bed will have 50% weed growth and you can spray it or use a weeder to get it down to 0%, without a prepared seedbed the weeds jump straight to the last stage (100%) and you have to use a sprayer which will reduce it to 50%, As far as I'm aware there's no way to get it to 0% from that stage

Thanks for untangling the new variables for us. To clarify, on a harvested field that needs everything, we have to mulch, roll, plough, plant and fertilize twice to get max yield? Makes sense to get only 1 harvest per year if we're busy doing all that!
Yes but not in that order. If you are ploughing you will need to rock pick because there will be large stones, then roll for the 5% increase.
Also don’t forget lime if needed 👍🏻

I think rolling and mulching are not penalties like plowing or lime but bonuses you can do like fertilizing to gain above 100% yield. If your field needs plowing and lime you would lose those percentages off of 100% if not addressed, I think though I could be mistaken that doing mulching and rolling would be bonuses in addition to your base 100% assuming no plowing or lime needed. Will be interesting to find out more as we play.
For some reason I get big rocks with cultivators and I can't roll them in...

Does shallow cultivating make less yield than deep cultivating?
Why would you ever use a spader? They should give you a bonus yield for it going deeper since can’t use a roller like with the smaller stones.
It is designed to be the equivalent of a "cultiplow". In addition, most allowed inclusion of a 3 point rear connection to attach a seeder or planter to one step the entire process. This is included with FS22.
Wed., Nov. 24, 2021 Good day Mr. Sealyp. Hope all is well. Have you seen how long it takes for crops to grow? I sure hope it's something Giants will fix. With Seasons turned off and "Days per month" set to 1 day, (which really means 1 month) this is what DJGoham has come up with:
4 mons for Sorghum, Oats, Grass; 5 mons for Grapes, Potatoes, Olives, 6 mons for Corn, Barley Soybeans; 7 mons for Sugarcane, Sugarbeets, Sunflower, Wheat; 8 mons for Cotton, Canola and 13 mons for Poplar.
Have you come up with anything different? This seems like a L O N G time compared to having crops grow in one day in FS19.
