Thanks to John for his efforts. He's a gift among many gifts and his humility is inspiring.

I too loved it. John doesn't seem to often fail in delivering thought-provoking, good information. I also, like Virgil below, think there's more to Job than even what John brought out, viz. that it's a parable (perhaps / probably even a living parable) of National Israel's overall existence, but what John shared here is still a great lesson and application.

Linking Job with John 9 is smart. The purpose for the blind man's blindness is what mattered, not the cause. However, I think we get too hooked on imposing our own purposes on suffering sometimes. In the end it's about glorifying God. It's how we cope with our sufferings that shows the transforming power of God in our lives to others.

masterful mind, never in a thousand years would I have understood Job in this manner. I am just not good with connecting the dots !

Loved it! I've got to share this with my mom! We both have tried to understand this story from Job's point of view. She has come to believe it's a parable.

It's a dark accusation the accuser makes,.. But Job can ALSO be easily seen as one who really DID care for the people around him as he unselfishly administers to his daily responsibilities in dealing with them, and does so because he DOES honestly care, thus God Blesses him with what he needs so he CAN carry out his everyday task,.. Job is thankful that God does bless him and his reverence for God is of upmost priority BECAUSE he does love God, and why he so adamantly does sacrifices for his children just in case they have sinned and cursed God,. But,.... Job does live in a fallen world,.. Job IS sinful by nature as all mortal men are, The accuser knows this and is what his accusation of Jobs' motives are based on.

Elihu almost always gets a vague treatment from commentators.

Job is probably not a real event

True. The form of it means it is a telling which is basically a Jewish Fable. Definitely a true problem that real people were going through.
