"An Oklahoma judge dismissed the lawsuit seeking reparations for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, delivering a blow to the survivors’ quest for legal justice. Judge Caroline Wall of Tulsa County District Court issued an order dismissing the lawsuit with prejudice. Three survivors of the attack brought legal action - Lessie Benningfield Randle, Viola Fletcher, and Hughes Van Ellis - all over 100 years old. They filed the lawsuit in 2020, hoping to obtain “justice in their lifetime.”
Judge Wall based her decision on arguments put forth by the city, the regional chamber of commerce, and other state and local government agencies. According to NPR, Judge Wall has identified herself as a “Constitutional Conservative” in past campaign questionnaires."

Because the paperwork was burned up in the attack, the banks did not allow them to retrieve their money. As for what happened in Californina, eminent domain. Racism was used to keep black people and black families from building generational wealth. Like Cenk said, Conrad Hilton started a very similar way as Bruce's Lodge. Who knows if they could have expanded the same way. Same with all the businesses out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. These could have turned into booming black owned businesses and created generational wealth for thousands of black families across America. But instead we had the Red Summer which killed any and all ability for black families to thrive. And people wonder why so many black families are poor today. It's a disgrace what happened back during those times.

@@avenue8822 you did say "imaginary racism". However, the other things you said in this jumble of words strung together that on its face sounds meaningful, but when you really break it down doesn't mean much at all. That's not what the phrase pulling yourself up by the bootstraps means, you are talking about failures- there are people in all communities that don't take responsibility for their actions. But by and large, everyday people, members of the black community - people that I know- not UA-camrs or people that YOU may have seen on the news or wherever...but real every day people live their lives, do not blame others for what you perceive as a failure within their community, and deal with actual, not imaginary, racism on the regular. The US owes African-Americans and Chinese-Americans reparations. They also owe indigenous-Americans more… slavery wasn’t 500 years ago, it’s just over 150. My great grandmother was a slave. That’s not that many generations.
This guy definitely deserves reparations, but so do all the other people from the 50+ black towns that were wiped off the earth during that same time. Glad this guy was able to maintain some proof, but when you turn a town into a lake the proof is lost forever. You don’t need to go back to slavery, black people just got civil rights 60 years ago.

This is the reason it is so important to learn this country’s true History. Most people don't know that Tulsa was not the only Black community that was destroyed. "Not Just Tulsa: 5 Destroyed Black Towns," ua-cam.com/video/8HDIMvgosPU/v-deo.html . No matter how often we tried, yt supremacy made sure that my fore-parents could not build generational wealth for us, even though that is how yt people provided it for their children. (85 laws created specifically to control black people - ua-cam.com/video/LZ7Ndxhn2_s/v-deo.html) It is a bit disingenuous for the children of immigrants, who were blessed enough to come to a country which was built and running by my ancestors, to build a life for themselves. And to have the gall to think that they should have a say in whether my people should be compensated for the wrongs that were done to us long before they got here. The continuous payments of reparations to the Indigenous people of this country, including allotting them sovereign lands didn’t seem so impossible. It did not seem so impossible to provide reparations to Japanese citizens whose families were put in internment camps; and the gifting of funds to Jewish families from the holocaust, which by the way Blk soldiers fought and died to free. It was possible for the Federal government to pull millions of taxpayers’ dollars out of thin air and put into programs to assist non-taxpaying Ukrainians and Hispanic asylum seekers to whom we owe nothing. We don't hear immigrants or yt Americans complain about those payouts; and we should not hear complaints about payouts to my people, who are truly deserving. I don’t understand why, when it comes to Foundational Black Americans, it is “impossible” to give us our stolen inheritance. The children of my ancestors should be able to enjoy some of the wealth that our ancestors built for this country. Like the ancestors of those who inherited the profits made off the sweat and blood of my ancestors. And, like the slave owners who stole my people, stripped them of their identities, sold and killed their kin, America's reparation should not be up for discussion. I am sure we would be open to installments of payments, but that is the most that should be asked of us. It is not our fault that it is taking America so long to honor the debt that is owed. And why does everyone seem to feel it is such a bother to figure out who the recipients should be? That sounds like a government problem for which we should not be burdened. It did not take long to figure out how to fund programs to support immigrants and asylum seekers who came here to enjoy the fruits of our labor. However, I will offer one hint: choice of recipients should be based on lineage. We all know that the elephant in the room is racism. People don't think that Blk people should get something that they can't have access to, but their ancestors did not suffer the 400-year-old holocaust that my people have and continue to be suffering from. The difference is that the complainers and/or their ancestors came to this country on their own volition; mine was given no choice.

Ok so how long back should reperations go? And who should pay and who shouldn`t? Dont forget the rules have to work for every single case. The Problem with reperations is that they only make sense during the lifetime of the perpetrator. After that it becomes impossible to define a proper set of conditions and rules that bring you a halfway fair outcome. For Example should a white man who is a descendant of a black person killed during that day recive reperations from a black man who is a descendant from a white perpetrator of that day?

Actually went past the 5-minute mark, just to hear a couple of more obvious points...on why reparations in this case is a no-brainer. But, good thing the United States has discarded any even smidgeons of racism! Cue up the laughter.
Also, good [again obvious] points about South Africa and the "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" ... where you can add Canada (where I live) and the government's apology to the First Nations people for the many abuses committed during the Residential School period, as well as the lawsuit that ruled to the surprise of no one in favour of the plaintiffs ... Headline: "Canada settles residential school reparations lawsuit" ... subheadline "Canada is to pay more than $2 billion to settle a lawsuit seeking compensation for harm to Indigenous languages and cultures".
Another obvious point, but not made in this video is that: in other Western democracies, when one commits a crime or engages in blatantly unlawful conduct, that person can expect to be punished in some form.

I find it interesting that Americans refrain from using Canada as an example of social democracy, universal health care, reasonable gun restrictions, etc. History books represent Canada as a blank white, undefined, unmarked map, beside USA maps. It has been described as a strategy to prop up "American Exceptionalism." I have seen this patterns among progressives, as much as anyone. And there are gays still alive today who still owe money on that.
