I have for obvious reasons seen a lot more movies from 1999 and getting it down to 10 wasn't easy. I didn't find a link to post this elsewhere, but I figure comments are good for the algorithm regardless.
    My personal list for 1999
    1 The Matrix
    2 Fight Club
    3 Galaxy Quest
    4 Man On The Moon
When this came out I was a big fan of wrestling, Jim Carrey, and Andy Kaufman so this is a big one for me personally.
    5 The Green Mile
    6 Bowfinger
    7 Beyond The Mat
More love for wrestling I recommend this crazy look behind the scenes if you have never seen it since I know you are a fan as well.
    8 Magnolia
    9 Dogma
I know you don't like Kevin Smith and while I'm not a big fan I like him more than you do and this is my favorite he has done mainly because poking fun at religion really resonates with me.
    10 The Talented Mr. Ripley
Probably my most notable omission is The Sixth Sense. I have seen it and it is the best film I've seen from M. Night Shyamalan who I generally don't like, but I have never loved it as much as most and haven't seen it in a long time. It is one I should probably revisit with a fresh look.
Eyes Wide Shut is probably objectively better than a lot on my list since it is directed by a master and I have come to like it a lot more seeing it at an older age, but I had to leave it off for things that mean more to me personally.
American Beauty would have made my list in the past, but for obvious reasons certain things about it haven't aged well.

Appreciate the recommendations. Only movie you mentioned that I haven't seen is The Talented Mr Ripley.

@@MildFuzzMovies Another one that didn't make my list, but I don't think you have seen and would recommend is Boys Don't Cry. Hillary Swank won best actress for her portrayal of a biological woman who identifies as a transsexual man and is based on a true story. It seems especially relevant right now with how much trans hate we are seeing.

❤ this spinoff and your top 3 (thx for God too)....look forth to more years! ever watch Bertolucci's 1900 about rise of fascism? it's very lengthy as Leone's once upon a time in America 👏

So have you never seen Network? It is the big movie from this year you and your audience is missing.

I have. Liked it well enough but didn't leave a lasting impression.

@@MildFuzzMovies I really like all the movies in your top 4. I have seen The Omen and Pink Panther, but it has been too long for me to remember them well and the others I am not familiar with.
My top five of the films I have seen from 1976
      1. Taxi Driver
      2. Rocky
      3. All the President's Men
      4. Network
      5. Carrie
