Sorry to say that London’s voice by this time was not what it had been 10 years before when he recorded this scene with Astrid Varnay. That 1953 version has perhaps the most exciting singing from AMONASRO in this scene that I have ever experienced right up there with Bastianini, Taddei, & especially Guelfi.
Imagine the loudest cast ever. Put togheter Callas/Nilsson as Aida, Scandola/London as Amonasro Siepi/ Giaiotti as Ramfis, Flagello as the king, Lauri volpi/Gino Penno as Radames and Simionato as Amneris. Ka-boom!
@@johnnybouhaha absolutely right, it just did not pop up in my mind while I was typing. My mistake. But both Penno and Lauri Volpi were incredibly powerful.
Old good George, wich I love So much! What a singer!

Callas, Del Monaco, London, Stignani, Siepi
@@diegoreviati5166 I'd choose Oralia Dominguez for Amneris
Impresionante
He's one of the few that could match her...
not even close. his voice is half the volume of hers. his voice sounds noisy and stuck..
This is fantastic!
meravigliosi entrambi .
GRANDES !!
In theese years London was after his prime. But is this night he sengs very well.
…current baritones would be most delighted to sing only one night at GL level „after his prime“. RDS
He had been suffering from vocal paresis for three years already when this recording was made
Beautiful singing ! Thank you so much :)
o Signore che voccioni.....!!!!!
Vocioni? Altrochè! Da squotere le ossa. Per cantare così server un controllo assoluto dei propri mezzi.
