the zombies eating brains to relieve the pain of being dead may be a stretch, but so is the idea of the dead returning to life to begin with. to me, it's a creative detail and underscores the pain victims of the state receive. also, the yellow guy is yellow probably because he was preserved in formaldehyde.
One of my favorite zombie movies as a kid and probably my absolute favorite today! I love how it avoids the misery of "humans are the REAL monsters!!!" by having the living be your only hope. The punks end up working with everyone else to try to save each other. I mean it doesn't WORK, but they tried!
"And the heads said: you can't show pubic hair on tv!, so I went to the backstage, and someone shaving me there was the weirdest shit in my career. Then the heads said: It's worse! Now you can see EVERYTHING!"
The creature effects in this movie sparked my love for horror movies, and wow the tar puppet was so haunting always had me scared to sleep as a kid. That woman on the table those with her wiggly spine - yikes still creeps me out to this day. 10/10 review, now send more paramedics please.
Appreciate the nuance of accepting that people who never got to see Return of the Living Dead are just wrong and bad. It’s true. It’s like saying you never saw It’s a Wonderful Life. Also the theme of corporate and military irresponsibility definitely still has a bite all these years later. Pun intended.
Tarman was not a puppet. It was a puppeteer who specialized in life sized puppetry and hence was able to move in the awkward, fluid way on the film. BRAINS!
2:58 That was a thing in Battle Angel Alita too. This cyborg guy ate brains because it was the only way to get dopamine in his system for the chronic pain from his...robot bits, I think? aw man. And you missed some scaredy stickers so... See everyone in the reupload?
Is it weird that not only did I not notice the missed stickers, I also kept getting surprised when I did see the stickers and was like, "Wait, those have been here for the entire shot, why am I just now noticing them?"
I love this fucking crazy punk rock zombie masterpiece! The 'Tarman' might be my favorite single zombie in any movie, ever. But the attitude of pure, subversive, horror comedy is what really makes this movie dear to my heart and braaaaiiiinnns. "Send more cops." 🧟♀️🧟🚓🚓🚓🚓🚓🚓
the best part about this movie is that NOT A SINGLE PERSON is the 'cool calm collected' type, everyone is screaming their heads off the whole time lmao
Was working in a Videostore in the 80's. That was the hidden gem, the ace upon my sleeve when my customers had no clue what to rent that day..... Made ME famous!!!!
This was my first “real” horror movie. I saw it on Halloween night 2007, I was 10. It was playing on Local 2-2, a station that used to be called ‘This’ but has since rebranded. It scared the Hell out of me the first time I saw it, but after a few years I started getting in on the jokes. I still watch it every Halloween. Part of a triple feature with Trick r’ Treat and Evil Dead II.
I like how the video rightly accused me of being a dirty horndog, and then at the end, I got an ad for women's undergarments, and I didn't skip it, because Mildread was right: I am definitely a dirty horndog.
I always loved the wacky make-up of the group of teens, who demonstrate admirable loyalty to one another. And James Karen, Don Calfa, and Clu Gulager make up an excellent seniors trio.
I spent te first five minutes of this sure that I had already seen this video, then I realized Ryan Hollinger talked about this movie very recently. So recently I'm pretty sure it was parallel thinking
One of my earliest memories is literally nude Linnea Quigley. My dad was watching it and I saw her dancing in a grave yard. ... This is definitely why I'm fucked up.
I really wasnt expecting Bobby Duke, star of the channel to make an appearance. But I was delightful delighted to see him anyways. Thank you scaredy cat mildred
I'm one of those people who don't like scary movies and this movie is just *chef's kiss* So many great effects and ideas, like the Tar-Man, the half-dog, and the elderly zombie who gives their motivations: It relieves the pain. Also I can't help but giggle at the zombies calling to send more ambulances. The movie does a great job of being both campy yet filling you with dread.
This was my introduction to horror at age four, and had such an impact I often consider it my favorite film. I'm so happy people are still spreading the love nearly 40 years later.
One thing I remember about Return of the Living Dead as well as Night of the Living Dead: both have EXCELLENT escalating threats. Zombies that start off feeling kinda goofy & manageable gradually become a serious menace. Every attempt the protagonists make to try & escape fails, and their options start to run out. After a while, the undead stop feeling like a threat and more like a promise- awful, inevitable death, followed by something even worse.
Finally!! This is the best movie ever for sure!! Now talk about Don Calfkas line about the Indian skeleton farm and how that weirdness stopped after this movie!!
Watching this movie with my classmates from mortician class after school was the most wonderful thing ever. When the mortician in the opening scene grabs the arm of the deceased person and bends the lower arm up, the whole room was lit by happy smiling, because that move is actual what morticians do to get rid of rigor mortis.
THE BEST 80's zombie flick. Not super gross or tense, just pure pure fun all the way through, plus LINNEA QUIGLEY!!! Killer soundtrack... this film blew my mind as a teen, and still does!
If you can believe it: I saw this one in a drive-in. I demanded to see it when I was 10... and then got freaked out by the mud guy not so much because of the puppet itself (although that was pretty inspired in itself) but because of the way it flolloped around on-screen was genuinely nightmare inducing. My father watched with his mouth hanging open in genuine shock: "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck what the hell is going on" and then absolutely laughing when the zombie grabs the walkie talkie and says "send more police..." Yeah that was funny. I hate horror comedies with a vengeance but I look back at this film with a genuine nostalgia.
The mud guy's name is actually Tar Man. Mildew says his name in the video, although I understand that it might not be apparent that it's actually his name.
Please do the rest of the movies in this series. I'm begging you I need this. This series is one of my favs and so are you. You have the power to combine them!
Quite literally one of my favorite movies of all time. A true masterpiece of horror comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously while still giving you developed characters.
This was my first zombie movie back went I was around 10 years old in 1990. My parents didnt care about what I watched ( I grew up in the 80s with Dirty Harry, Death Wish and Rambo) so I would watch greats like Society, House and other cult classics but this movie has a special place in my heart. I didnt get to rent this one, it was one of the awesome movies I watched when we got cable for the first time, I watched it at night and i had a blast, no nightmares, no fear just pure unbridled fun. This movie is a must imho!
I saw this movie *years ago* and I don't remember anything about it, even the nudity lol, except for the line from the zombo "send more paramedics" It cracked me up way more than it should have and is the only thing that survived being memory holed
As a kid, I often saw RotLD 2 and 3, but never this one. Not even at the idea rental store. I actually thought that RotLD2 was the weird sequel to NotLD, that both Return and 2 were a redundant way to indicate that. I didn’t see this until decades later.
One of my favorite films. Paid through the nose for the original German poster from 1985. The artwork is great and I love the German title for the movie. It literally translates to: “Damn It! The Zombies Are Coming!”
I've been waiting for you to cover this movie since the start of the channel. It's one of my absolute favorites. My only complaint about your video is that you didn't talk about/show how FANTASTIC Spider is as a character. Just all around fun to watch. I love this movie, I love this video, THANK YOU for finally doing a video about ROTLD!
there's quite a few unpleasant but distressingly easy ways you can wind up as a yellow corpse, basically means you died from complications involving renal failure
I first watched this when I was like 4, on Mexican TV, with my grandma, my dad was very worried I'd be scared and he says he just walked in to me laughing my ass off lol legit one of my faves still
I'll never be able to explain it, but somehow the theater in the closest "big" town to my middle of nowhere home in South Dakota got this opening weekend. A buddy of mine and I went to see it and the place was packed with college kids (was in high school myself) and man, was it a good time. I love this movie and quote it on regular basis. "It's not a bad question, Burt." "The brain, the brain!" "I hit the fucking brain!" "You mean the movie lied?" I still have a crush on Jewel Shepard.
The first horror movie I ever watched was its sequel. I was 3, it was the middle of the night, and just left on when everyone else went to bed. It's the reason I'm still afraid of Zombies. I used to hide when we drove by the cemetery so that the Zombies wouldn't see me
As I high school teacher I give your class and presentation an A+. For Halloween every year I show the Simpson’s Nightmare Cafeteria where the teachers eat all the students. I think your hands on approach of eating your EA really brings this concept to life for your students.
There's also a moment in this movie that when you think about it it's just absolutely terrifying and brilliantly acted It's by the paramedics when they're checking the two guys that were exposed to trioxin and they realize that they have no pulse or heartbeat and their temperatures are room temp and they start to question if they're equipment has failed as they slowly and quietly come to the realization that the men they're examining are in fact living corpses 💋👌 It's so underplayed but it's like the best part of the movie, aside from Linnea Quigley's sweet chesticles 😂
Oh man, when the mortician is flexing their arms, and it's making the same horrible clicking noises as the corpse with rigor mortis at the beginning, but the two men are just HOWLING in pain? really chilling stuff.
Actually, I think he was preserved in formaldehyde. I remember dissection day in biology class, all the fetal pig bodies we worked on had that same intensely-yellow look.
The half dog chaos is absolutely one of my all time favorite movie moments. That probably say much about my taste does it...well screw you that scene is hilarious

"Send More Paramedics" is also the name of an awesome ZOMBIE THEMED hardcore/thrash band
yeah that's where they got the name from...their 10 second song Brains always makes me chuckle :)
One of my favorite zombie movies as a kid and probably my absolute favorite today! I love how it avoids the misery of "humans are the REAL monsters!!!" by having the living be your only hope. Send more Bobby Dukes
The woman reminded me of LIfeForce lol.
We were fine until the half-dog, the half-dog creeped the f*** out of us tough guy teenagers.
"The pain of being dead..."
Pretty dark scene for an overall comedic movie.
The tar zombie was some of the best physical acting in the movie
"Probably not, they're fu-"
Dunno why but this was hilarious to me
That was pretty funny
It was a joke.
good sense of timing, important for any chuckle craftsman
I had to do a double take to fully comprehend that your name is 99% likely to be a TNO reference
@@helixaether872 You're welcome, and Слава Вперёдсмотрящему.
Hearing a reference to the Incredibly Strange Creatures who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies just made my whole day

I've never seen either movie and feel like a real failure right now
Hey Mildred, I want to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed these back to ghoul videos! Thank you for keeping my entertained :)
You missed a naughty bit at 2:55 :D
Wet zombie dude is the best though, i agree.
"MORE BRAINS!" ranks right up there with "To be, or not to be.."
Tarman was not a puppet. It was a puppeteer who specialized in life sized puppetry and hence was able to move in the awkward, fluid way on the film.
BRAINS!

is there any reason he couldn't, like, take some pills?
Saw this title card and "Do you want to Par-tay!?! It's party time!!!" Started playing in my head.
Pubes were still IN back in the 80's, so shaving them would have been a big deal.
I concur. Return is very funny; with a great ending, and the half-dog is a really weird idea. Thank you, Best Teacher Mum, ever.
Tar man scared the ever living shit out of me my entire childhood
that "itchy, tasty" reference made me emit a delighted noise that awoke my neighbor's dog, and I don't regret that.
I trust Mildred implicitly and she would never hide things from the group especially not a zombie bite
I like this movie, also it has Linnea Quigley in it. That's another Plus.
A LOT of Linnea Quigley is in this movie.
I blame this movie for centering my Kinsey scale firmly in the pansexual plane. And Elvira.
Trash FTW!🤩
the best part about this movie is that NOT A SINGLE PERSON is the 'cool calm collected' type, everyone is screaming their heads off the whole time lmao
As I sit here, wearing a Return of the Living Dead t-shirt: just perfect. Perfect title, perfect content, perfect person to present it.
Was working in a Videostore in the 80's. That was the hidden gem, the ace upon my sleeve when my customers had no clue what to rent that day..... Made ME famous!!!!
I have always loved this movie. The man who performed the Tarman in this film deserved all the awards.

Return of the Living Dead is how you explain the quantity of cocaine that was consumed in the 80's
i love this movie so much and i wish i could move like tar man.
an all time classic, absolute must watch if you have even a single atom of interest in zombies
Holy crap I was JUST hyper-fixating on this movie just before this video came out.
That and Killer Klowns from Outer Space

“YOU MEAN THE MOVIE LIED?!?”
Every time I watch this movie it rushes closer and closer to being one of my all time favorite movies in general. It makes no sense how good this is.
Linnea Quigley is from my home town. I have nothing to add to this.
I watch it twice a year, if not more. Been a favorite of mine since I saw it as a kid. It was my babysitters fault but I am grateful.
Quite literally one of my favorite movies of all time. A true masterpiece of horror comedy that doesn't take itself too seriously while still giving you developed characters.
My favorite part is where dude angrily shouts, "You think this is a costume? It's a way of life!" To no one in particular.

I saw this in the theater and it was a trip! I was terrified about zombies but this one was watchable
I so loved this movie back then.
It is my reason for why I love the whole horror genre with such passion.
I love Bobby Duke. I wonder what conditions occurred to help Mildred think of the star of the channel.
"And speaking of class!" oh boy here comes the class analysis of this film i can't wait for-- oh... wrong channel
This is one of my favorite movies and while I realize it’s supposed to be a comedy it also genuinely scares me

I remember when this came out. We didn't have running zombies before this. It was even scarier seeing it for the first time.
RIP Riley

Blood for the blood god, skulls for the skull throne, carrots for the Sterling!
The tar man wasn't a puppet, if I'm not mistaken, he was a really skinny contortionist
