    I found this exact chair! Awesome video I learned so much. Do you have the video on repairing the arm that’s exactly my issue ? I’d love to see what you did?

      @Darla Lutwick - Remove the back & turn the bottom of the chair upside down (resting on its arms). Check where the loose arm attaches to the metal support on the bottom of the chair. See if it's loose there.
      If not, start removing staples from the cover of the arm, wherever you see or suspect loose joints or frame panels. You have to uncover the loose or broken frame parts before you can repair them.
      Glue, clamp & fasten all loose joints & panels. Then reattach the cover & back. Frame repair can be a big job. See this video which demos a La-z-boy arm frame replacement ------> ua-cam.com/video/pPNZNHod-as/v-deo.html

    I have a push back with foot extension rest, mine almost lays flat but only if I keep one leg up off the foot rest or an arm above my head or it will bounce back up to lay back.
    Any way of adjusting so it will lay flatish and stay put?
    Thanks for any advice! 😉👍

    I have a Motioncraft by Sherrill bought used but in like new condition about 6 years ago. I have not sat in it much until recently becoming my studio chair. It is dated 1997 a great high quality chair. It just stared sagging back in the upright position. As I have read In other comments I will most likely have to live with it since there is nowhere around here to get it fixed. I was just wondering if there might be an adjustment or something I can tight back in there. I’ve looked, nothing looks broken and what Phillips head screws are there are already very tight. I just can’t see where exactly the sag is originating from. Thanks for your videos this is interesting.

      @GeorgiaRedMudPainter - Common causes for that issue include: Loose back frame, damaged or loosened hardware where the back attaches, problems with the mechanism -- bent, loose, etc. Also, when the back padding begins to flatten out, you'll be sitting back farther as well.

      @@reclinerrepairguy4155 Hey Thanks for the reply! The padding is great, there is definite play in the back rest from where it is supposed to be in the upright position and where it flops back about 5 inches now. I have it pushed against the wall so Incan work at my drafting table. It’s been a great sit for my slipped disk, but pulled out from the wall is only useful reclining as that 5 inch play is just enough to make sitting up a pain. I’m probably gonna haul off and take it apart here at some point and learn what the problem is. From what I’ve been able to find, these retailed for over 2 grand back in the day but I only paid 50 bucks for it, so not a big money loss, sure do hate for it to be a goner though, it was in practically brand new condition apparently sat in a room at an elderly persons house that was never used, beautiful deep blue leather.

    Thank you for the many videos which are very educational and helpful regarding reclining chairs....... you are a generous and kind man.
    I have a 30 year old Lazy Boy imitation leather, "push back" recliner. My problem is that when the chair is in the upright position, the back seems loose and reclines 2-4 inches instead of being tight in the upright position. Taking anything apart is difficult as the back does not lift out - the leather would have to be removed/unstapled which I hope to avoid. I see sone wingnuts under the chair which suggest they would tighten to tighten the back, but that has not worked. Any help you can offer, would be appreciated ! Thank you, John Nichols

      @reclinerrepairguy4155  Рік тому

      @John Nichols - Have an experienced repair tech inspect the chair. The back may be loose, the mech may be loose or damaged. Yes, the leather cover will have to be taken loose to make a determination.

    I purchased a used manual recliner from a thrift store. But when pushing on the arms and leaning back takes extreme pushing. I’m a senior and don’t have the strength needed. Do you have a suggestion to make it easier to recline. TIA

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 роки тому

      @Lillie McCabe - If others can easily recline the chair, then yes it's a strength issue. If others also have difficulty opening the footrest, then there is a problem with the reclining mechanism. It may be bent or missing mechanism springs that assist with reclining. Have someone check it out for you.
      If there's visible surface rust on the mechanism parts, you can try lubrication. Be careful that the lube doesn't drip onto your floor, however.

    Thank you for the information. I just purchased a used Chris Madden push back chair made in Mexico for JCPenney. It's a gorgeous leather/fabric club chair. I cleaned and conditioned the leather and oiled the mechanical frame. I love it but like the other comment, it doesn't like to stay fully reclined. I have to keep constant pressure on it to stay back and if I use a pillow behind my head it won't stay back at all. Do you have a video that explains how to adjust these chairs?
    Again thanks for the tips on maintenance and I look forward to any help you can offer.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  6 місяців тому

      @cobblerama - Body weight is what keeps the back reclined on these chairs. If you don't carry much weight in your upper body (torso), or if you are short or have a shorter upper body, you may find it difficult to keep the back reclined.
      Usually there is no adjustment to compensate for that, but you can check with the manufacturer just in case they offer a fix.
      If you are handy, you can try to find a softer set of mechanism springs to swap out with the originals. But if the springs are too soft, they may not allow the chair to easily return to the upright position.

      I have two barcaloungers that I love, but like yours they don't stay back without constant pressure. Even my husband who's 220 can't keep them back. I recently removed one of the springs underneath and while it doesn't completely resolve the problem it has made it better.

    Great video. Thank you! I have a BarcaLounger pushback recliner from 2001 very similar to the chair in your video. This chair is still like new. Great quality. However it doesn’t stay fully closed. I can’t find anything to adjust the the mechanism to keep it closed. Can you make any suggestions?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 роки тому

      @JERRY MARKHAM - Mechanism Springs mounted on the Leg Extension scissors are generally how these units close. A spring on one side may have broken & fallen off at some point. Or, the reclining mechanism may have some slight damage -- like a bent scissor -- that's preventing it from fully closing.

    Is there any way to make a push back recliner easier to recliner. My elderly neighbors bought 2 of them and they don't recliner in them because they don't have the strength. Thanks. I love that chair.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 роки тому

      @Ann N - Normally no, there is no adjustment for that. If the chairs are brand new, they should be covered by warranty and they can report the problem to see if the dealer (seller) can help. Buying a chair that you can't properly operate is not typically covered, but sometimes sellers will work with you anyway, so it's worth a try.
      They should watch 'How to Buy the Right Recliner' before their next purchase ---> ua-cam.com/video/FgegZ9qiuC4/v-deo.html

    I have one where the footrest mech is warped. The post that rides and lands in a groove to lock the footrest is out of place and wedged between the right scissor bars. Does the post drop into the groove on the bottom? It appears to go there but is pushing against the other bar.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  Рік тому

      @Tech Guy - I would have to see the mechanism to give an opinion. If it's warped (bent), the unit needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
      Contact the seller to see if they offer repair service. It they don't, ask them to refer you to someone in your area that has experience repairing the brand of recliner that you have.

    Hello! I've learned so mush from your videos, but I still have a few questions. I have a chair that I found for cheap because I believe that its missing the springs and the leather needs some TLC. How can I figure out what size springs to buy and where they attach? I have an idea but don't want to get the wrong ones.

    Hi there. I was wondering if you knew how to remove thumbs screws from the back of a recliner.there are no metal tabs only bolts. The name of our recliner is jackson catnapper omini power lift recliner. Model 4827 Please we are unable to dismantled the recliner and its a gift.

      @Meanwhile 1980's - If bolts are holding the back onto the seat of the chair, simply remove them to separate the 2 parts. If this is not what you're referring to, or you can't remove the bolts, send me photos of the issue to: pete@reclinerrepairguy.com

    I recently bought a old push back recliner...my guess it’s a late 70’s early 80’s chair but at some point was maybe reupholstered? Or wasn’t used much at all... it’s in immaculate condition...it reclines easy but closing back up is extremely stiff..is there any way to adjust to make it close easier?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  2 роки тому

      @DeniseSlack - The mechanism may be damaged (bent) or one or more of the tension springs may be missing. Tension springs can be reinstalled, if needed. But a replacement reclining mechanism is not likely to be available on a chair that old.

    I have a push back recliner that has a sprung back, it doesn't sit straight up , the back is always partially reclined. It is removable, how can I get it back to normal, upright position?

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  Рік тому

      @Joe Malinowski - 3 possible causes come to mind: #1 If the reclining mechanism is damaged -- bent, broken, etc. -- at the back where it attaches to the back frame, the back will lean or sag. #2 If the back is loose where it attaches to the seat, it can do the same. #3 If the back frame itself is loose or broken, this will give a similar result.
      To find out what's going on, loosen & lift the bottom of the outside back panel. Then unbolt (or unclip) the back to lift it off of the mechanism. Check all the areas mentioned above to pinpoint the problem.
