Thank you, Miss Lori, for the sourdough starter recipe. I made the bread and it was a success! I was surprised since I didn't have any of the Dutch ovens you recomended. I used my old Pampered Chef stone baker and it did fine. I also made the sourdough waffles and the homemade syrup recipe that was on the buttermilk waffle video. So good! I'm anxious to try the banana bread soon. Loved your video with Julie from Texas. I noticed the photo of y'all in front of the Magnolia Silos. Y'all were near me. We live in Hewitt outside of Waco. It blessed my heart when y'all prayed before your meal. I'm so happy to have found your videos!

I agree with you Lori......real ripe bananas add such good banana flavor and sweetness. I just made 6 bottles of homemade vanilla extract, and I'm going to let it flavor another couple of months in the dark pantry. That would be GOOD in this banana bread. I'm going to make me up a batch of sour dough starter as soon as that vanilla flavors. This banana bread looks some kind of delicious. Walnuts will be delicious! No chocolate chips for me in my banana bread.......I don't want chocolate to interfere with my pure banana flavor. I also love your big old beautiful bowls!

I had no idea there were so many uses for sour dough starter. I don't care for sour dough bread since I really love the taste of yeast bread. BUT, after watching several of your videos and now this one where you say how many different things can be made with the starter AND you say you don't care for really sour tasting sour dough bread, I'm going to give your starter a try. My family loves sour dough so even if I don't end up liking it, it will be enjoyed by the rest of my family. I've also never heard of banana extract which I will also be getting tomorrow - along with a bunch of bananas. I usually wait till they are almost black before making bread as they are so much sweeter that way. Can't tell you how much I've enjoyed your videos and am always happy to see a new one appear.

Yes, you really do need very ripe bananas to make banana bread. Having had digestion problems and found I could digest sourdough bread the easiest, so this banana bread must be great. I will have to try it, thank you. Following surgery to correct my problem, I have to continue to lose weight and keep it off for life. I love my food and cooking.

Okay, I made this recipe (with the one egg) and it turned out very tasty. I'm always looking for ways to use my sour dough starter and since we like banana bread, it sounded like a winner. By adding a starter, the loaf wasn't as heavy. One difference was, I cut another banana in half length wise and set it on top of the dough. Makes a pretty loaf!

Lori, I made this and we loved it. Also I made the waffles and love them too. I agree this starter smells good, not boozey like others I've made. I walk in my kitchen and am surprised by the good smell. I did just the paper towel and jar ring and have continued with that. If it rises too much I can just throw the paper towel away and put on a new one after I use some. Thanks so much. I am looking forward to more of these recipes. I'm making banana bread again today.

Lori-Your kitchen is so darn cute.. And you in it.. I love your sourdough series.. I have been making sourdough for about 35 years..and I never get tired of it.. fun to see what other do.. I love Vicki's series as well.. I was taking deep breaths to smell it, but it didn't work LOL. I like to reduce my flour by 1/2 cup and add 1/2 cup of fresh ground flax seed. Also I like to make them into muffins in the summer time (Same bread recipe) so it don't heat up the kitchen too much.. Takes much less oven time.. That looked so yummy.. Thanks for sharing your recipe.. Sourdough is the BEST!.

Please do some more of these, like the cornbread you were talking about. A bisquit recipe, bread, other cakes. I have a feeling you make things a lot easier and faster than others I've seen. How do you convert a recipe to use sourdough? Do you just substitute it for liquid ingredients?(+_+) I am so ignorant of this process. I would have loved to see you take it out of the oven and how you judged it done. I did see the finished product picture at the beginning of the video. Congratulations on your channel growing! Wow, Mrs. Lori I absolutely love this recipe. I learned so much today watching your video. By the way you look beautiful every time I see you! I didn't know you could use sourdough for all those recipes you mentioned. I guess I need to educate myself about sourdough but I really learned so much from your series already. Is the sourdough starter kind of like adding buttermilk to a recipe? Anyway, thank you so much I have buttermilk but only vanilla yogurt so I guess I better get some plain Greek yogurt. This reminds me of a starter made from instant potatoes that was going around years back called friendship bread. Before you fed your starter you were to take out a cup and give it to a friend so they could start their dough. It was so good but then everyone started cutting down on the amount of bread they were eating and the cycle sort of faded away.
How long can your starter keep in the fridge?

Ok I did the first yogurt and buttermilk waited the 24 hour and added the 1 cup flour and water and thought I was supposed to wait 3 days ? But was I supposed to add 1/2 cup flour every night and water after the initial feed?

My banana bread's in the oven as I write this. CANNOT wait for it to be ready! Butter on warm bread = little slice of heaven. I'm using starter I made from watching your video and have made so many yummy things for my family since: bread, waffles, biscuits, chocolate cake, cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, pancakes and now the banana bread. Want to try cornbread and croissants. I'm loving it...thanks again for sharing your starter video and recipes! Big hugs from Missouri :0)

@@WhippoorwillHoller I actually ruined my 1st go at it...let it go for 5 days when 3 was all I needed. But I was determined (had my inner Lori with me) and really it wasn't too wasteful starting over. Was successful and am glad I tried again. I feed mine 1/2C flour and in between 1/4 and 1/2C water.

I was wondering if you had an original recipe or original way of making tomato dumplings (drop dumplings) the real way.
Please, please, NOT a recipe off the internet, but a REAL old fashioned way. I figure todays cooks would want to put a ton of spices and probably bacon and cheese in them-not what I'm looking for. thx Lori.

@@WhippoorwillHoller tomato dumplings i think were made with home canned tomatoes (you know how they were vbroken up a bvit), a little sugar, and drop dumplings as a side dish. It was very simple country peasant food-no spices or anything fancy. I've decided to make them with quality whole tomatoes sweetened with a little brown sugar, and drop dumplings the usual way-light and fluffy.

According to comments posted, I think we all need a sourdough LESSON-not just the sourdough recipe. Use starter instead of milk or what? It's so unclear to me since I thought it was a tasty addition AND a leavening agent but I see you're still using baking powder plus the starter so I'm confused. help plz, thx. I don't "get it".
