It's not being abandoned...that makes it sound like it's being shutdown or something. It's just becoming a buy to play game instead of F2P. And if you already obviously bought it during EA or play it on gamepass you won't care anyway as you already have it.

Will this expansion be free to people who bought the game? Gameloft said that they chose to keep the game paid so that updates could continue to be free after all. It would be incredibly shady if such a significant update was paid content.
You must be joking, also notice how they've got a predatory Battlepass system included as well, under the guise of it being a free-to-play game in the future

No sadly, even the people who already have bought the game with a founder's pack before the release date on Dec 5th will still be required to pay $30 to access this expansion
I'm not sure if that pays for all three segments of the expansion tho. Could be $30 for each update to it as well
It's Gameloft, if it gets paid it won't be any surprise. Disney Speedstorm is technically a P2W nightmare right now.

If you're currently still playing the base game and not interested in buying this (or waiting for the sale price drop), I wouldn't allow the last game update. A lot of my characters' favorite gifts have now become fruits, gems or recipes related to the new areas - which I don't have access to. I honestly feel it's a sneaky tactic to bully you into buying the DLC.
And there's also a really, really annoying red dot on the Outfits list (probably also related to new content) that I can't get out of the of the menu now. (EDIT: this disappeared the second time I played post-update thankfully).
I don't mind paying for games but I feel really frustrated by the constant backtracking. Game will be free > game will have a cost but updates will be free > it's not PtW but here's a sneaky battlepass but hey it's just cosmetics > game will have a regular price and DLC will cost almost as much as the base game and we'll keep the battle pass too.
From what I read, it's a pretty big update with decent content and personally I would pay (well, maybe not 30€) for getting more areas, pets and crops but I hate that you need to keep paying to get more characters and QoL updates after what they initially said - I mean, they give us 3 for that price... how many times are they going to make us pay for characters? Will Maleficent also require a 30€-DLC? Pretty much any dog or cat from Oliver, Lady and the Tramp and the 101 Dalmatians? I'm really curious about how much money the game is making (in total, battlepass included) in order to justify that cost.
I'm honestly considering whether to wait for a >60% sale or just not buying this on sheer principle.
Disney just casually dropping a DLC ad after literally destroying millions of dreams of people that don't have the financial capability to purchase a game which was promised to them for free. Vile. Absolutely vile.

This game needs serious lashback for their bs stunts
Cant believe they released this, it still needs so much work. There are still so many items that either dont appear when you place them. Gifts from chests and all of Scrooges shop needs major help. A timeskip patch. The multi-player was kinda a let down besides getting to see a friends island, but cant do anything there but find the pixel things. The performance, and item limitations could be worked on at least on the switch version. Plus making people pay twice is gross.
For everyone saying they’ll wait for the free version… they kinda canceled that idea :/
This update is WELL WORTH the money!! Trust me. TONS of brand new content, and you get most of your money back straight away through moonstones. You get some for buying the update, and plus they sent even more out to people who bought the update for a glitch, totaling around 25 bucks in moonstones as soon as you buy the expansion. Plus Eternity island is just as big as the main island almost, with the same amount of content if not more. It's a great purchase in my opinion.

I’m not paying $30 for more small dialogue boxes that I can’t see too read even with prescription glasses and my Switch having Zoom enabled. Playing on tv even means I’d practically be sitting on top of the tv because I’m so nearsighted.
Disney can only wish fixing their recent past was as simple as turning an hourglass.

Okay so, game problems aside, they're adding Rapunzel which means she lives in a village with her abusive mother again. When we used to play, before we lost all trust, we haaaaated Gothel. And now, during our ~happy endings cozy village builder~ we're reuniting a beloved character with her manipulative, terrible mom. Great.

I hope they add peter pan, alice in wonderland, pocahontas and brave characters eventually. Id also love jack sparrow though I wouldn't be surprised if that doesnt make it in despite there being potc clothes and furniture.

It isn't a free expansion. There is a free update to the game coming out at the same time but Rift in Time is a separate purchase, platform specific

Does anyone even know how this game is going to play? I don't think I've seen any game play at all.
Same as base game character quests I'm assuming, so talk to character - do some task - talk to them again - talk to different character - do some quest that forces you to wait a day or so so you don't breeze through it - collect the thing - talk to character again.
The only newer things I've seen is bulk crafting and auto watering crops, which sucks that they added it to the paid pass instead of the base game when people have been asking for it since release.

Yeah, screw this game, I can stand micro transactions in free to play games, but this is a $20 base game with a $30 DLC with micro transactions which was promised to be free to play. The people who bought in to early access did so to support the concept as a free to play game, and most of them have said that it has poor staying power. Only ever consider early access for indie games, and even then know you're probably burning your money.
