Rifle Sling: Setting The Correct Length

- In this video, I discuss setting the proper length for a two-point sling on a patrol style AR.
1. How you mount the sling can help make the rifle more manageable. The rear attachment point should be on the outside of the rifle. The front attachment point should be just ahead of where you place your support hand, mounted on the inside of the rifle.
2. The proper length of the sling will allow you to punch out from the high-ready position with a couple inches to spare. For more on the high ready position check out this video:

Glad to see you putting this info out there, Rich. It's been a couple of years since I trained with you, but I still use that sling technique. It makes it very easy for me on right to left shoulder transitions without getting caught up in the sling in addition to the plethora of reason you provided. Time flies, I think I need a trip back down to Deep Woods soon!
This man knows what he is doing. Great explanation Rich..
This was helpful. Thanks for the great content Rich
Helpful, to the point, thanks!
I have excess sling at the front qd. How do u recommend I take care of that? If I wrap it in tape it'll be bulky and block my pull tab when sinched down. Thinking of just cutting it

as a lefty, where does forward assist go in 2 sling postion (extended length sling and shortened adjusted sling)
forward assist feels good in the ribs
Im always messing and changing with my sling, i think i need to switch to a 2 or 3 points instead.
My biggest issue has always bee the vertical foregrip hitting my leg as I walk/run (for example around 4:25 it is directly in the path of your right leg). I've gotten around this somewhat by chopping it down at an angle so in most sling configurations it clears my leg when i take a step. Alternatively if I flip the gun so the pistol grip and foregrip face upwards, it fixes it. It's so annoying that I'm considering just moving to a small handstop instead. Have you ever found a way around this particular problem?

Just invest the $70 and get a magpul sling and you can adjust it from hugging you to lose in a second
